So 1986, both Ricky Morton and Road Warrior Hawk had these short programs with Ric Flair. So what if they decided to go full on singles push with one of them, who would you pull the trigger on?
They are both from very popular tag teams, so you be taking the risk, and losing some revenue.
I will go with Ricky, I thought he could have made the transition to singles star. Hawk on the other hand, he is ups on a singles does not come close on the up side of the Road Warriors as a tag team.

Hawk. Dude got dangerously close to almost putting everything together he needed for a brief time during the period we're talking about here.
Ricky was great as a short-term placement in the main, but he relied far too heavy on being the underdog-in-peril aspect for him to keep that going long-term.

There was a time when I thought Hawk could have been a huge singles star, but perhaps there is a reason he wasn't. As far as Crockett '86 goes, I guess Ricky might have done the better job with a bigger push.

Hawk, definitely. He'd probably need to cut back on the no selling, sure, but his biggest hurdle was substance abuse.

If I recall, Heyman thought Hawk could be someone to build a promotion around in the early/mid 1990s. I'm pretty sure this was during that time that Animal took some years off from wrestling, perhaps under one of those Lloyd's of London deals, though I'm not positive he was on one of those.

I prefer Ricky Morton. Hawk was crazy strong and believable, but Morton has a babyface champion works for me.

I'd saw Hawk. He found some singles success in Japan and in Europe in the early 90's when Animal was injured for a long while. Had it not been for an arm injury, he may have had a longer singles run in WCW in 95. He'd fit right in helping Hogan fight the Dungeon.

If the stars aligned right for the time period, Hawk would be the better choice. Whereas Ricky was a better worker, I don't feel that the babyface in peril would be the best for a sustained main event push, especially if he were to be the champion. Hawk looked like a champion, could wreck things, and was a dynamic personality.

Anyone else's brain read it "Rick Morty?"
Hawk. Could've been up there with the other legendary no-sellers, like Hogan or Warrior.

I really think had Hawk gone solo full-time, the no-selling would have lessened. Not go away completely, but he would have had to tone it down a tad.

I'm sure you're right. However, this is "F Your Piledriver" Hawk from Road Warriors fame.

I believe that because Hawk had a brief run in ECW around 93 or 94. Not sure why it ended other than Hawk was bouncing around a lot of different companies at that time.

Hawk would have been a more badass Sting.
I’ve never understood the appeal of the Rock n Roll Express. Morton would have been a fine transitional champion. But their money was as a unit.

I wanted Hawk to be champion. The promos alone would have been amazing.
Ricky is the Face In Peril. This doesn't give me confidence in him as a singles guy. But, him as champion for even a short time would have made Flair totally batshit crazy. That would have been fun to watch.

Hawk in the WWF by a mile, Ricky Morton could easily have main evented in the dying days of the territories though.

I'm sure you're right. However, this is "F Your Piledriver" Hawk from Road Warriors fame. I’m surprised there isn’t a supercut on YouTube of some of the more infamous times when Hawk no sold. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was at least a segment in a Botchamania or something.

I’ve never understood the appeal of the Rock n Roll Express. You’re obviously not a horny southern housewife from the 1980s.

Haha I'd watch it, and I hope they add a counter on the screen for how many times Hawk sold a piledriver. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}The counter will start and stop at 0.

Against Flair in Crockett in 1986, I'm going to say Ricky Morton as an underdog face. I'm not sure he would've become bona fide singles star, but he was a good hand in the ring and I think he would have done OK. As much as I like the Road Warriors, they both had limitations as workers that were covered when they worked with one another, but I don't think either was capable of sustaining a singles push.
