While that title win was goofy as crap, you also can’t hate the dude. A true fan, took the crap that was given to him from that title run, decided to learn the trade, & is now doing indie shows—presumably not because he had to or needed the money, but because of his love & respect for the craft.

I think the actual damage to WCW from the title win is way overblown; and it was more the hot potato booking of the title right before and right after that which damaged it. Hell, Vince was the WWF champ, and that didn't kill the title.

You’re right, the damage was already done. Even despite Vince winning it, the wwf title still meant something, the WCW title not so much, everyone was WCW champion in 99-00

Agreed. Had it happened in a vacuum, or a more successful era, it would not have gone over as poorly as it did. Still would have been a WTF moment but nowhere as bad.

And now he’s become a pretty fun indie wrestler in his own right, especially on his CWFH appearances. He always sells and books himself like he’s barely pulling the moves off and the announcers go nuts because “the ex-actor is really doing it”.

Terrible booking decision but Arquette seems like a good guy and is working indies now because he legitimately enjoys the business. Always liked that he gave the money he made from this to the families of recently deceased wrestlers. As a person he's not even in the bottom 50 worst champions of all time.
