June 1st, 2019: Adam Cole wins the NXT Championship from Johnny Gargano at Takeover XXV. Cole is now officially one year in as champion. He is now the longest reigning male champion in US NXT, not counting Pete Dunne and Walter's UK title reigns.

Usually long title reigns suck now, but I've enjoyed Cole's entire run with the title.

It's funny, when I finally decided watch NXT again after years of being out of the loop, the first thing I saw was Adam Cole vs Matt Riddle.

I didn't care about either guy until I sat down watched the match and I finally gave them a chance. Both men made me a fan of theirs after that.

Plus my memory is foggy, I totally forgot that I saw Adam at an ROH show and he was pretty cool there.


And lastly, "Adam Cole Baybay" is damn fun to say.

I didn’t follow his indie career, but had heard about him. Heard how good he was. Then he showed up and didn’t have a good first impression. At all. I didn’t find him overly impressive in the ring, didn’t dig his look, and didn’t care about him out of it either. It wasn’t until he unleashed a scathing preshow promo on Pat McAfee of all people when it clicked for me. Been one of my favorites ever since I saw the light. Haha

Dude is absolutely amazing, and it's actually only helped that Shawn and Hunter have invested so much of themselves into him.

Even if it seems almost inevitable that he's going to jump ship to be on the same show as Britt.

The reign as a whole has been great and deserved though

From the min he walked in the door you knew they were invested in him. Instead of strapping the rocket to his back, he spent over a year establishing himself and even losing feuds like his feud with Aleister Black before he finally got to and won the NXT title. The only real person who you could argue he maybe should lost the title to is Ciampa. Now, the only person who really qualifies is Keith Lee so Cole needs to hold the title until then

Yeah, Lee really is the only choice right now. We know what's going on with Dream, plus he doesn't really have any momentum anyway, and it'd be way too early for Karrion Kross (as cool as he already is) or Dexter Lumis. I'm guessing that Gargano might take the NA title off Lee, but what I'd do is have Lee drop it to Thatcher (I'm a mark for the guy right now) and then beat Cole.

I’m pretty sure that was the match that made me a fan of both of them, too. Before that, Cole was just a generic skinny dude who no matter what I saw I just never got the appeal. Riddle looked like an absolute douchebag. But that match was amazing and both of them clicked for me that night.

I think his title reign's largely been pretty terrible, but that's more on the way NXT tends to book their main event scene more than anything.

Though either way can we pleeeeeease stop doing one year title reigns for awhile? They've been so constant the past few years that it's become largely meaningless, and really it's a good idea for your TV show to have actual story progress sometime in the span of a year.

As long Title reigns go this has been one of the best ones imo. It also helps that he isn’t on the show every week (especially the last 3 months) and the amount of talent NXT has means this has kept him relatively fresh still.

Dream or Lee are the only 2 atm I would have him drop the belt to. Finn is also there but I would try and have him resume the Walter feud later in the year if possible.

He's been more interesting to me as world champion than a number of them have, though I do hope that whoever beats him, that it doesn't underwhelm. Keith Lee makes the most sense to me, but Dream I guess is the second choice. No one else really seems to be in the place to do it, face-wise, and having another heel champion after this long of a heel reign would just be stupid.

As soon as Gargano turned heel I said he was going to take the title off Lee. I still believe it should have been Priest but Gargano is obviously more then qualified to carry that title and have great matches 

Lee is the big name to take the title off Cole and the one built to do so. Kross is still a long ways away and NXT likes to build guys up before then. Thatcher smoking Lee like no one else would be a good way to get the title off him but you want to keep some heat on Lee as well so he can easily transition over to the NXT title
