LOL I should pretend they mean the former American Movie Classics.
I don't know how much more sadness/changes I can take.

Funny how a lot of people bitched about being stuck inside, but everything today is making people become anti-social. You can text all day, have restaurant food delivered to your house, and watch movies on streaming networks.
Jesus, I hate all of this shit. I like going out and doing things. Going to the movies being a big one.

So, um......... this is weird, and I'm sure further research will make more sense but I can't find a good article at the moment to detail it ( here's a brief news piece about it), but AMC may have been saved.......by people on Reddit. Apparently on one of the subreddits there, people decided to buy the hell out of stock in AMC (and GameStop too?); in the process they apparently screwed up a bunch of hedge funds who had invested big money on the stock going down. And because a ton of regular people played the market yesterday buying the hell out of this stock around 600 million dollars of debt AMC was dealing with was wiped out; the company was able to sell enough of their stocks to pay it off.

Heh, when I first saw this news (well I heard a lot yesterday, it was a mess and had no idea or care to figure it out, but became aware of the positive AMC news today) I thought of RLM shitting all over theatres and how they'd react to this....

This thread got me wondering "is the local art house theatre doing ok?"
Checked their schedule.... No upcoming events which is eerie (from what I've gathered a lot of their money was from special screenings of obscure films, kid-centric foreign films, etc.), but you can buy tickets for movies showing right now, can pre-order for future releases, they aren't asking for donations to a Patreon or anything, so far so good....
Less worried about AMC than the mom and pop places.

They pulled out of Canada probably ten years ago and no one really noticed on the other end of that, Famous Players is now seemingly a monopoly. we have a really awesome local theater where second run and indie movies get played at a fraction of the ticket price, and they have these nice big seats that you can push back and put the feet up.

Surprisingly, the big theatre in the nearest city isn’t a Famous Players it’s a Landmark Cinema. And for 10 years it was owned by Empire Theatres before getting bought back by Landmark. All movies are $7 on Tuesday’s so that’s usually when I go

Imagine killing your business over the Trolls movie, then Reddit swoops in and saves you.
Nothing about that sentence should make sense, but here we are.
