When I say “younger years”, I can mean from when you were a kid or just a few years ago.
When I lived in NJ from 1980-2006, I remember several.
Unless I am mistaken, way back in the day when WNYW showed movie trailers, instead of the ad announcer saying “Starts Friday at a theater near you”, a WNYW announcer would dub his voice in and say that line.
When I was a kid, I remember seeing Carvel commercials with the old Carvel logo on a blue background and Tom Carvel doing the ad.
There was the ads for the Westchester County Fair that aired every June.
Those Mount Airy Lodge commercials. “Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge.” I found out in later years that the lodge was nowhere near as good as it was on the commercial.
Ads on the YES Network when they showed vintage Yankee clips set to music. (Don’t know the song) these ads would hype let’s say Old Timers Day or upcoming Yankee games.
When I was in going to college in 1999, I would drive to school and listen to Howard Stern. During the commercial breaks, they would air ads for a college where one of the jingles was “All football all the time.”
When I was in high school, high school seniors would listen to 92.3 and one of the ads would advertise the 92.3 card. I don’t remember what that card was supposed to do.
Can’t forget about ads for 1-800-OK-CABLE and Cable TV Advertising Associates (“America is cable ready.”)
In later years, when I would drive to and from work in NJ, I would hear ads for MAJOR WORLD AUTO. I put it in caps because the guy doing the ad would always scream. I also remember ads for Foxwoods Resort Casino (“The Wonder Of It All”). There was an ad where the lady would constantly say to her husband “Tell them about the discount, Harry.” I can’t remember what the ad was about. There was also an ad where “Mike Francesca” and “”Mad Dog’l Chris Russo” doing an ad for I think B&H auto. It only aired for short while and the reason why I put the names in quotes is because I can tell that there were actors impersonating Mike and Chris.
When I moved to Florida, I remember a few funny ads. One was an ad where one of the guys is portrayed as an idiot by somehow reading a T-Shirts store’s name upside-down. There was also an ad for a local restaurant called Iguana Mia. He said “it is right by the UGLY cactus on Bonita Beach Road.” There was also an ad for a car dealership run by a Dad and his two young daughters. The dad is portrayed as being behind the times in this ad by saying “Don’t forget to like us on BOOKFACE.”
When the CW launched, in 2006, my CW station identified itself as CW6. I remember reading online that the station itself launched as an independent station in either 1986 or 1990. Despite this, a radio ad said that the CW6 is a BRAND NEW TV STATION. BTW, The stations real name Is WXCW. Speaking of that station, during the final month or so of the WB’s existence (the stations previous affiliation), when the station plugged syndicated shows, the WB6 logo would be shown yet the announcer would say CW6 and not WB6.
I got more. What are old local TV and radio ads do you remember?
