Genuine question but am I missing something with Aubrey? I know commentary mention her name a lot, way more than the male refs, and I think jericho was ranting about her once? But other than that what does she do differently to any other ref? Especially to get accused of taking away from the wrestlers? I'm guessing I've not noticed something? uhh, Jericho ranting about Aubrey was part of the show. At Stadium Stampede, there was literally an entire segment of Jericho demanding an instant replay for a close 3 count.... and him/Aubrey watching the replay in the football tent thing. as a matter of fact, Jericho ASKED for Aubrey for his world title match when he won the AEW belt: link

People are complaining about it because for some people a referee should basically be invisible, and a referee having a personality actively "Takes away from the match" I think it's bullshit old school thinking and I personally like when I can look at referees like Aubrey and Bryce and actively know they will bring personality and extra flavor to a match, but to each their own.

Earl Hebner is literally the worst referee ever when it comes to trying to steal the spotlight. There's all the stuff with HHH, then this: credit to OSW for pointing it out, but there is zero reason for him to be on that damn ladder

This isnt me trying to say people are wrong, I was being serious when I said it was a genuine question as I see no personality with her or anything different with her at all lol other than being female, which my GF was randomly amazed and confused about haha

I barely notice Aubrey as a ref. I love her chemistry with Tony and guests on the podcast though, I look forward to that more than dark.

I've kinda given up on all Conrad's and need something new to listen to Do Aubrey/Tony have random guests on to talk about their careers ala Jericho's? just breakdown current storylines and events going on in AEW or recap the weekly shows?

I barely notice Aubrey as a ref. I love her chemistry with Tony and guests on the podcast though, I look forward to that more than dark. It's usually an hour long talk with talent, explaining their background, their lives outside of wrestling and how they came into the sport, their training and such. You usually find out something new, like Aubrey's background as a game designer, Statlander training as a stuntwoman prior to wrestling and such.

Aubrey and Charles Robinson are extremely expressive in the ring and it helps sell the action. I don't want a damn robot in there, if someone got surprise punched in the dick directly in front of you.... you'd react:

Giving her merchandise, (I could understand a toy - but t shirts), listening to her podcast few times she comes off as attention seeking.... let’s give the camera crew merch , feels like they allow the inmates run the asylum ...,it would be ridiculous if the wwe strted producing t shirts mugs other merchandise fir the refs and they’d be laughed at if a ref /interviewer went up and started wanting merchandise

If no one wants a shirt for her then a shirt won't be produced.

Honestly, the refs being complete non-factors to the point where they are faceless robots that don't even get names is pretty much a WWE-only thing, and a relatively recent one at that. And it's not a good thing at all.
You don't want their characters to overshadow the performers, but there is very much merit to them having personalities and identities. Because when faceless WWE refs get knocked out, I really don't give a shit about them beyond the fact that there's a window of opportunity for the heel to cheat. But if Chris Jericho gets in Aubrey Edwards's face, I care because she's as much of a character as Jericho is. If Bryce Remsburg gets knocked on his ass by Lance Archer, I wonder what his family is thinking watching at home. This gets heat on the wrestlers that abuse the officials and makes them stronger characters as a result.
And again, I stress this is a WWE thing that popped up last decade. As much as we dog on Earl Hebner, Triple H got mad heat for beating him up and firing him, which got the white hot Jericho phantom title change over. On the other channel, Bischoff looked like history's greatest monster publicly humiliating Randy Anderson in front of his family. It's an easy way to build effective heels by letting them abuse the refs, but they got to be treated like characters in their own right to be effective.

Tbh, and I'm not an "AEW hater" so I don't want to get jumped on here, but the show itself is kind of a channel changer.
I guess with the way they were hyping it up, I got the impression that it was gonna be sort of like NJPW with a slightly more Americanised twist to it.
But it feels like the same mainstream kind of sports entertainment that I've been watching for 20 years, except with extra indy influence.
Way too much goofiness, weird gimmicks, the presentation doesn't feel original, and lots of indyriffic stuff that I don't care for.
And I feel like they get lots of praise on the internet for doing things that WWE would get laughed at and hated for doing.
I dunno, I'm pretty much tapping out on AEW. Just not my cup of tea.

Brodie Lee continues to be a big 'ol "meh" as Dark Order's leader. Uno was so much better in the role.

The issue with Aubrey is that she's the center of a dam controversy to ruin Britt Baker.
