Records and rankings reset with the new year and Swole hasn't done a whole lot in 2021 yet.

I'll be happy if Swole never enters the top 5 again.

I like Swole a ton as a character and she seems like a great person from everything I've seen/heard. I just think she really needs to rework her moveset. A lot of her offense looks off and seems too complex for her. Tay just revamped her arsenal to play to her strengths and I think Swole could really benefit from doing the same.

Swole has been off TV because she's training with Malenko, and officials realized she was botchy and needed to do some extra training. The last time she had a match, I felt she had improved.

Swole is really really charismatic, the issue is everything else But really she is a case where she showed tons of potential but didnt live up to the potential

She has a solid handle on underdog powerhouse psychology - a style that, when perfected, can be seriously amazing. She also has good instincts for adjusting when things go awry - I care less that she slipped on KiLynn King's hair doing a Texas Cloverleaf, and am more impressed that she kept the hold locked in a way that looked painful after that happened. If she has room to adjust, she can recover - which makes me wonder if the TV time constraints are her biggest obstacle. That's hopefully a case like Baker, who always had a good handle on Five Moves of Doom match layouts even when her moves and bumps looked awkward as hell.

Someone else will have to list all the competitors BUT THIS TOURNEY IS STACKED AS F*** DUDE
Also Baker/Rosa was amazing and it happened at 8:30, finally we are seeing genuine movement here.

Japan side is stacked--Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki, VENY, Emi Sakura, Ryo Mizunami, Mei Suruga, Rin Kadokura, and Maki Itoh.
I can't wait for people to see how good Rin and VENY are. VENY could probably be considered by lot of people as the best joshi in the world within the next couple of years. Rin's participation means Marvelous might be on good terms with AEW (probably thanks to Nyla), which would open up some really great talent for AEW.
AEW now featuring two trans women is also really cool.
I have the inclination that the Japan matches might be behind doors and not ticketed, otherwise I'd totally go lol

No debuts on the US side, but a stronger use of their talent than I was expecting, honestly. I figured that Baker and Rosa would be busy otherwise instead of being in the tourney. If we get Hirsch vs. Conti out of this tourney, that's a win for the world of wrestling.
Hoping that we get a few good angles out of it, too.

Tournament is stacked on both sides. Really looking forward to the Japan side.

If Itoh ever makes the jump to the US, she's going to be a star here. Not that she isn't in Japan, but her whole act just feels like audiences here would absolutely love it, despite the idol culture aspect not being quite as familiar here. Really good lineup here; feel like they might do Rosa vs. Nyla in round one, that usual "first round match where the winner is the odds on favorite to take the whole thing" trope.

Riho got fed up and quit the promotion because they wouldn't let her quarantine so she could work there

Maki Itoh has said wrestling for AEW is her dream, and it's great to see it happen. I know one day she'll get to travel and work in the states, probably in 2022.
So no Abadon, Swole, Penelope, Shanna or Bates from the fully signed and no Ivelisse, Diamante, Red Velvet from the "signed but not on website" roster. Abadon is the only one I would have considered, but she is a "special" kind of wrestler, you can only have her sometimes or her gimmick gets exposed. Swole is still probably doing more training, Velvet is in the mainstream feud, Shanna is lower midcard now, Ivelisse and Diamante can cut heel promos on why they didn't get a chance. So it makes sense. Am I missing anyone who maybe should have been in the tourney?

I'm hoping for a few upsets in the tournament. Like maybe Hirsch surprising Rose in in that match we never got.

I agree that Ivelisse and Diamante stand to gain something from not being in the tournament, because they can play bitterness well - maybe going after Tay and Anna specifically. This pretty much confirms that AEW has passed on Allysin Kay, given that if they were holding her back for a dramatic debut, this would have been it. The only "surprise" for me is that they threw in Baker and Rosa instead of Shanna and Swole or padding out the tournament with the likes of KiLynn King or Ashley Vox (IE, not signed, but good enough that the tournament would be a nice opportunity to do something with them).

Ivelisse and Diamante not being in it makes me think they might do something with the Impact tag titles since they were called out not too long ago The other girls not involved are either busy with other shit like Velvet so it makes sense, and in Abadon and Swole's case, they are still kind of training and honing their skills, and in Abadon's case I think they want to limit her losses At least AEW's women's roster is now thick enough where girls are excluded, we got depth now! Also sad Statlander isn't in this but she must not be at 100 percent JUST yet, maybe after Revolution...
