Moving forward in time to 21XX and meeting a generation of weapon-charging, power-stealing robots when James & Mike play Mega Man X for the SNES: -A game I mostly rented as a child and where I managed to get all the way to Sigma but could never beat him at that time. Bought it this year as part of the Mega Man X Legacy Collection Part 1 and (watched by my nephew) played through it and finally beat Sigma. Have to say that among the SNES Mega Man X games, this one's my favorite of them. -But first, a word from our sponsors: namely, World Of Warships: Blitz. I cannot recall if J&MM did have sponsors before this or if this was the first time they had a sponsor for a video. Need to check one of the previous pages for that. -I guess most people thought that this was just what Mega Man would look like in 16-bit and thought that the X stood for 10. But you find out the truth very quickly. -At first, they basically mention the cool features this series added to Mega Man like being able to climb walls, that wall jump and getting to ride a bigger robot. Those certainly were very cool features. -Wondering if this game came before or after Mike did a livestream of it because he certainly seems to know some of the item locations pretty well and can guide to James to them. Good to see that Mike can be pretty helpful for once. -In this video they go Chill Penguin, Flame Mammoth (whom they beat with the regular X-Buster after they find out that ice doesn't work against him), Spark Mandrill, Armored Armadillo, Sting Chameleon (whom they cannot beat) and finally Storm Eagle. Not exactly the perfect route but, as they say, going outside the regular route makes the game a bit more challenging (though I think they do not know what the right course of action is). -Of course, they mention the easter egg Capcom hid in there: the Hadoken. That one certainly came in handy for Sigma's dog and Sigma's first form but they already say that they will not go for it because it would take too much time. -They give a shoutout to the trailer for Mega Man 11 which would come out a few months after this video. Having played that game in the meantime, I can only say that it was a fantastic game and I really wish for a Mega Man 12 in the same style. -Top 10 Games without bats as enemies...that could be a challenging list. -That would be an interesting comparison on who has the longer tongue...Sting Chameleon or Gene Simmons? -Overall, a fun video mostly for them going through one of the top SNES games and enjoying it very much.

Only a few Mavericks remain and then we can put a stop to Sigma's reign of terror once and for all by watching James & Mike continue playing Mega Man X for the SNES: -Okay, never in a million playthroughs would I have compared that dragon miniboss in the Launch Octopus stage to looking like Donald Duck. At least, we get to hear Mike's Donald Duck impression once more.
-Interesting discussion they have about how the youth of today will grow up considering it to be perfectly normal that they can do videos themselves all the time. James & Mike's generation (1980) as well as my generation (1985) would have never even thought about that something like livestreams, Youtube videos etc. would be possible, considering that not every family had a video camera and those were only used for special occasions. Loved the story about how James got his first camera as well as Mike's first video is of him taking a dump in addition to there not existing that much video footage of him in his childhood/high school years.
-Their discussion is so intriguing apparently that they don't even nitpick that that robot guarding the armor part takes a frigging long time to defeat (though I am confused why they went for the hard part of climbing the walls and jumping over him instead of just dashing under him).
-With the armor part, it is now much easier to beat Sting Chameleon even if they don't have the right weapon (due to Mike's miscalculation).
-Yikes, why is the Nintendo Power they use to find the items all in grey? Did it fall into a gray paint bucket or something?
-The word I take from this video: "motherbitch".
-Curious that they didn't show the part where they "cheated" the story and got the arm cannon part early. I thought if they mentioned the fireball that Mike would mention that, too.
-28 enemies to beat to finally get a big energy capsule to appear....Regarding that, one part I don't like about the X games is filling up the sub tanks. Give me the way it was done in the original Mega Man games any day.
-Yeah that part where you enter the fortress is really quite nervewrecking.
-Huh, guess young Mike wasn't that perceptive when he didn't realize that the Spider boss moves along the green tracks.
-Sweaty controllers make the hardest end boss even harder than before. Though I like that they found out the pattern to Sigma's first form (although they have problems with it).
-Unfortunately, unlike with the NES Batman game, the stars didn't align for James to beat Sigma's final form before family matters (i.e. looking after his kids) call. So, like with the NES Metroid game, we go with James alone for the final minutes in the early hours of the morning (4am) to beat the final boss while he looks at his youngest daughter via the baby monitor.
-Well, at least James is a dad kind enough to not ignore his crying daughter while he is trying to beat the boss. No, seriously, I really like that James knows where his priorities should like even if it is now 6am (I was confused that it took so long at first but then I remembered that he had to do the whole fortress again because the passwords don't save the fortress progress).
-Have to say that after playing the 3 SNES X games, the final form here is easily the hardest (Neo Sigma and Kaiser Sigma in the following games weren't that hard in comparison).
-Finally, James beat it and he can add another SNES game beaten to his trophy wall.
-Overall, another highlight episode mostly to it being a familiar game to me and having some interesting discussions and observations as well as the different ending. Definitely another highlight in the J&MM saga.

Move on over Atari 2600, there are still other consoles that offer short games to sit down and play as we see here when James & Mike check out ColecoVision games: -I kinda wish during their run that James & Mike would have done this more often: just playing various games from a system and talking about the system itself. I think they only ever did this five times with the Atari 2600 and then this ColecoVision 2-parter (also could count the Action Max episode they did). -OMG, James's reaction when Mike says that they could play with his remodded Philips CD-i one of these days. -First up, it's Rocky which feels kinda familiar as it does for James as well. I think we saw a glimpse of this game in the Doublevision AVGN episode (or was it in the Rocky for Sega Master System episode? I cannot remember). Very simple and you only get to fight Clubber Lang but at least there is a chance to beat the game (like James does). -Going into a bit about the current AVGN episodes where James feels like he currently has to cover a lot of video games in an episode when it is a broad topic. Like, back then, he did the Rocky for Sega Master System episode but nowadays (that being July 2018), he would probably do an episode on Rocky games in general and not just focus on a single game. Considering that he still did episodes on single games from time to time, I guess he means that unless a single game can give him much material, he would do a broader focus in general. -Again mentioning the subject on how virtually all of us discarded the NES boxes when we bought them, leading to the sad state of games only being available in their pure cartridge form, which still makes me sad that we were so ignorant of them. -Next up is B.C.'s Quest For Tires which is apparently based on a newspaper comic strip about a caveman. I have never heard of it but perhaps it is a well-known strip in the US? -A game that Mike has fun with and it looks like a fun game helping B.C. race through a land full of obstacles and dangers with some humorous animations. -Finally, for this episode we get Oil's Well (where they aren't sure if it really is based on the saying "All's Well That Ends Well"). From the looks of it, this looks like a very entertaining variation of the Pac-Man style of gameplay (you have to see it for yourself because I cannot explain it that well) and James & Mike do say that this is one of the best discoveries they have made since they never saw this game before. -To conclude, a fun look at some Colecovision games and I am looking forward to what the second part will bring.

We continue our foray into one part of that Doublevision when James & Mike play some more ColecoVision: -First up, Tarzan. Not at all like the Pitfall / Jungle Hunt-type game they were expecting but something a bit more complicated. But complicated doesn't always mean good which this game is not. However, it provides James & Mike a chance to talk a bit about how big a movie franchise Tarzan was in general (especially in the 1930s/40s with Johnny Weissmuller) and that it had even more movies than James Bond though it is almost completely forgotten about how many movies of Tarzan there are. Dunno if as of today, 2016's Legend Of Tarzan was the last movie or not but it must have been not that memorable since I don't remember it even existing.
-Next up, Squish 'Em Sam, Fix-It-Felix and Wreck-It-Ralph's less talked about predecessor (just kidding). Basically a game where you climb a building while avoiding various bugs (or stunning them for a bit by "squishing" them including a soundbyte) and at the top Freddy Krueger gives you money. A decent game which they have no qualms with.
-Following that, it's Space Panic. Love how James has his eyes closed at first and imagines it as just another space shooter in the vein of Space Invaders etc. going by the sound and seeing his flabbergasted face when he finally looks up. An interesting Donkey Kong-style game with oxygen being your time limit (and personally the astronaut you play as kinda looks like a cross between ALF and Gonzo to me) where you dig holes to get rid of alien tomatoes, it looks like. Another game they really enjoy and it certainly looks enjoyable enough.
-After that, it is Pepper II. Don't let that title fool you because their later check reveals that there never was a Pepper I. I don't even know what this game has to do with pepper but still, it is probably the best game James & Mike found on this play-through. An interesting Pac Man-style game covering multiple screens at the same time (with the game saving your progress inbetween lives which is amazing considering the amount of screens this game has) where you have to fill out spaces in what looks like train tracks to fill out the in-between screen. This reminds Mike of a game that only he seems to remember but has never found again by the name of Trap-A-Zoid which, from the description he makes, sounds a lot like a game called Qix that I remember. Wondering if it is the same type of game?
-Finally, it's Cabbage Patch Kids. Probably not the best "game" they play in this video, but the one they have the most fun with due to it being a very early precursor to the "Make Your Own Movie" games (yes, earlier than that Tiny Toons NES game or that function in Mario Paint). Mike certainly delivers a memorable quote with "Cabbage Patch Kids is like Fortnite" and both have just juvenile fun with the stuff the game has to offer (like being able to select toilets as interior parts or spelling out words with letters). Somehow this happiness seeps through and I couldn't help but laugh at the fun they were having.
-Overall, another very good video showing a variety of interesting and lesser-known games that are, nevertheless, worth a look.

Oh no, what happened? How could those beloved characters go so wrong in their lives? Let's find out when James & Mike play Grand Theft Auto V: -Another video where I don't know on which console they are playing it on. The controller was visible in a few shots but I was occupied with other things on the screen so I don't know. It is a task for you to find out.
-It is not really a playthrough of the game but rather Mike showing James some features of the game that were added or modded by other people. Like the telekinesis feature where you can just lift things with your mind and throw them into other stuff for maximum damage. Also for longevity, Mike input an invincibility code so that they can go crazy without worry of getting wasted.
-Actually a game I owned both on the PS3 at first (when I had it) and later on the PS4 as well...yet, I never played it all the way through, losing track of it over time until reselling it. I remember having fun with it so I guess it was mostly being busy with my other hobbies that I couldn't devote as much time to it as I would have liked. Might return to it one of these days (after I finally finish replaying GTA: San Andreas).
-Both James & Mike remember having fun with the GTA games back then (mostly because of the open-world environment and you getting to do whatever you want) but they didn't pay much attention to them over the years. Still think that the graphics are kickass though and they cannot imagine what GTA VI (if it will ever come out) will look like.
-Now for the real reason that Mike invited James: mods that make your character look like other characters. In the first case, Kermit (including James making the wacky spazz out Kermit is known for). Certainly feels very weird seeing Kermit going around with a gun shooting stuff up.
-Next up, the Pink Panther. James is not as enamored with him due to the Pink Panther not really known for being 3D CGI animated (while Kermit looked spot on) and, thus, feeling off somehow.
-After that, it's Slimer, giving James a moment to reminisce about the first movie and him thinking that the movie Slimer was pretty creepy as a child. I still have on my to-do list to watch the Ghostbusters movies one of these days, having never seen them before.
-Cinematic shots abound by shooting rockets at vehicles and jumping away! WOOOOO!
-Finally, a goose. And of course that means more Donald Duck talk by Mike.
-Nice callback by them mentioning Goat Simulator and Amazing Frog which kinda were similar to how this mod experience of GTA V feels like.
-I don't see anything out of the ordinary here, just a goose swimming in the water....Oh, and on a jetski...oh and flying a plane....oh and crashing a plane onto a highway....
-Overall, a fun video due to all the crazy mods but Goat Simulator remains the highlight episode for me as far as these types of videos are concerned.

I remember another gentle visitor from the heavens, he came in peace, and then died. Only to come back to life. His name was... Superman. How that happened we shall see when James & Mike play The Death And Return Of Superman for the SNES: -I remember seeing an ad for this game in a comic magazine as a kid but never saw it at my local video game rental. Then again, I was never that much into Superman so it didn't bother me too much.
-So before playing the game, James (since he actually has a sort of compilation of this whole Death And Return Of Superman arc) gets into the background of it: how this comic made national news headlines, going into the basics of the story etc.. Love Mike's double-take when James compares the in-story sightings of Superman to how people have Elvis sightings in real life.
-The game, to my surprise, is actually a Final Fight-esque game. Not the worst gameplay idea to incorporate into a game but am I supposed to understand that these goons you fight in this game are as strong as Superman or that something as simple as a molotov cocktail can hurt Superman? Have to agree with Mike here that this aggravates my suspension of disbelief something fierce.
-Talking about superhero themes and how iconic especially the 1960s Batman, 1978 Superman and 1989 Batman themes are (heck, even the Joel Schumacher Batman movies had quite a memorable theme). On the other hand, they have a hard time remembering the theme from the Christopher Nolan Batman movies (cannot comment on that since I have never seen those and, thus, cannot comment on whether the theme is memorable or not). This leads also into well-known themes from Nintendo games and how Nintendo didn't come up in recent years with any memorable themes like the Mario or Zelda theme (we do learn though that Mike actually likes Splatoon's gameplay a lot although he doesn't really like the colors or the characters designs in it).
-Well, they might have found the first decent Superman game to play...and they should know seeing the Superman games James covered for the AVGN episode. Interesting to note that Mike mentions his playthrough of Superman 64 where he actually went through the whole game and how it gets even worse down the line. That could have clicked James's brain to doing that Superman 64 Revisited AVGN episode (it fits since that episode came out after this J&MM episode).
-It is all fun and enjoyment...until the first level you play as Cyborg Superman which is where Mike gets frustrated with the game due to the flying human enemies you have to beat (since he can never get on the same plane as them and when you lose all your lives, you start all the way at the beginning of the stage, i.e. no checkpoints). So, it may not be that good of a game after all.
-For the rest of the video, it is mostly James trying to explain the Death And Return Of Superman comic, who those different Supermen are, how Superman comes back to life etc. to Mike who is more of a Batman and Spiderman fan rather than a Superman fan. Love the reactions by him to all of James's explanations but, to be honest, I come to these videos to watch them play games and make comments about them, not to hear James's Wikipedia plot summary of a comic book arc.
-Still, the parts where they played the game were fun to watch and some of the discussions were interesting but I'd prefer that the detailed comic book discussions go into other separate videos.

It is time to kill some more childhood dreams when James & Mike continue playing Grand Theft Auto V: -OK, given that Mike talks about the WSD configuration and also mentions pressing Y, I am guessing that they are playing the PC version and not a console version. -Well, Anakin Skywalker (the Hayden Christensen version) doesn't only hate sand but police and oncoming traffic as well. They are also making good use of a new feature where they can do Superman punches, i.e. punches so powerful they send people and vehicles several kilometres away. -Never thought I'd see that image: Darth Sidious looking at a smartphone and also shooting a cat-generating gun. -Or how about Elsa from Frozen enabling a car to fly and flying all across the San Andreas sky (and of course Mike has to sing that song to get it back into my head)? -Look out, it's a flying Garfield (those in-game helicopter pilots certainly have seen something there that you don't see everyday). -The highlight of the video is probably Darth Vader attacking the military base including them using an enemy-generating gun and using the rocket launcher to blast them to kingdom come in slow-mo. James & Mike certainly have a lot of fun and laughs with that. -C-3PO and Wind Waker Link are also in there which they try out for a short while too. -That is certainly one of my personal highlight scenes from this video: a flying, fire-breathing Santa Claus. -Finally (as far as new skins are concerned), it's Hulk Hogan, brother! He probably wishes that he could be as mobile and powerful as he is in the game. -To cap it off, we finish with Kermit again (with them mentioning that playing as him makes this a better frog game than Amazing Frog was). Love them doing stuff in Kermit's voice and ending it on a spectacular plane crash. -This was funnier than the first part with lots of crazy and entertaining stuff they did but to me, the Goat Simulator episode is still the recognized symbol of excellence in these types of episodes.

Another day, another ship blasting through the galaxy shooting at alien invaders when James & Mike play Super R-Type for the SNES: -I remember reading about this game in the German version of Nintendo Power but I never rented it because I wasn't that much into shooter games or smups. -R-Type...a hidden contender in the Chronologically Confused area since they mention that Super R-Type was R-Type 2 in the arcade. It gets them into a bit of a rant about various other series (like Mike thinking the X in Mega Man X stood for 10 so he wondered where 7, 8 and 9 went or James being really confused about Final Fantasy VII at first and when somebody explained it to him, he was like 'buck that poop' at first because he always knew FFVI as FFIII so they should have continued it that way). -Love how their day started with the plan to record a J&MM episode playing Double Dragon for the NES (of which we get some footage)...only for James learning through Mike that they already did an episode on that four years earlier so they abandoned that plan (love the clip from that episode reminding me that James rocked some sweet sideburns back in 2014). It gets them to reminisce though about all the games that they have played over the years on this show and how it is mostly a show for them to dick around with games, shooting the breeze without any aim at actually beating the game (except in a few cases like ones they do mention here like Super Ghouls'n Ghosts, where James hated the bird things in the walls, or Super Castlevania IV). It definitely appears at this point that they really love doing this show and I enjoy watching it. If only it could have lasted.... -Definitely an interesting thought about celebrities playing video games like for example William Shatner playing Gradius or similar. They do mention that Mike Tyson actually played Mike Tyson's Punch-Out at one point and you can guess who won the final fight in that game? -Laughed at them doing a small Terrence & Philip routine when they ask themselves whether Saturn (who appears in the background of the first stage) is also a gas giant like Jupiter. -Sweet by Mike to namedrop Parodius and encouraging James that they should check that out for one of their episodes some day. I also learn that Parodius belongs to a sub-genre called Cute 'Em Up (never heard that term before in my life). -Regarding Super R-Type, it definitely looks like an awesome game which they think as well even if they only made it up to the second boss. -All in all, another good episode with fun discussions and a great game to look at.

Going back to a better time before he turned to the ways of villainy and was just an ordinary lad wanting to save his girlfriend....Let us get back to those days by watching James & Mike play Adventures Of Lolo for the NES: -For Mike especially (being a big fan of puzzle games), he considers the Lolo trilogy to be on par with other famous NES trilogies like the Ninja Gaiden trilogy or the Super Mario trilogy. Sadly, they never address the fact that for some reason Lolo became a villain in the Kirby games (at least the first ones, dunno about the later ones) but later a companion to Kirby again in the Kirby anime. Makes me wonder what Lolo's current status is. -Mike kinda likes the idea of a modern take on Lolo but if that one ever came to fruition, it should be kept simple (unlike the new Bomberman game on Switch he mentions which isn't simple at all and he lost his drive to play through it down the line). -Have to agree with them, the Lolo stage music is not as redundant as the Bubble Bobble theme and it is actually a nice tune that doesn't get annoying as you play through the game. -Interesting to hear about James & Mike's different approaches to puzzle games with James being more the trial & error type of guy who doesn't mind dying a lot while Mike wants to visualize a plan of operation beforehand and, thus, tries to die not as often or not at all. -That Maze Craze game for Atari 2600 sounds quite fun. Makes me wish that they had done it at one point in the show. -There are not many discussion topics here but the fun is simply in watching James & Mike try to figure out the correct way to collect the hearts, use the powers, collect the pearls and make it to the exit/stairs. Mike mentions "pearl necklace" at the beginning which James completely no-sells...then again I am not sure if Mike really was trying to make a joke or if he just said it matter-of-factly. -To conclude, this was a very fun video to watch because of seeing them try to figure out the solution to do these rooms (with James preferring for Mike to only help him minimally) and Lolo being a really fun game to watch. Spoiler: this will not be our last foray into Lolo on this show because there will be a very special episode down the line featuring this game.

Super Smash Bros.? Bah, that game is a rank amateur as far as crossovers are concerned when James & Mike play M.U.G.E.N: -They never mention it but going by the controller they have in their hands, I am assuming that they play this fan game on the SNES. -Have to say that this is the weirdest and awesome assembly of characters for a fighting game I have ever seen. Birdie, Jon Arbuckle, a giant kitten, Jet Jaguar, The Flash, Butthead, Donald Duck and many, many more. And the stages...Technodrome, a level from the Road Runner SNES game, a level from the SNES Terminator game....I feel like a mind buck has befallen me. -Mike, you disappoint me as a fellow German (or, to be fair, as someone with German ancestry). That is the German version of Do The Mario playing, not the Japanese one (though I understand where the confusion comes from since all other themes are in Japanese). -The stage BGMs are definitely the highlight of this game. I am not gonna spoil anything in this regard but let's just say that this would be a game that Disney would be very unhappy about. -Who would have thought that a three-eyed monkey named Paul who appears as a square box of blue and has DNA Productions displayed for some reason would be that powerful a character? -Butthead vs. Donald Duck....giving Mike a chance to do two impressions at once (and, honestly, he does better impressions than Dave Coulier). -OK, nobody ever gonna say anything about OP characters in fighting games ever again....because chances are those will never be as OP as Super Big Bird who overkills every enemy with a single button push. Mike's and James's reaction is especially the highlight of the video, on par with what they experienced in the Goat Simulator video. -...well, that pink Felix The Cat is certainly the creepiest character in this game for me. -What a surprise, CD-i Link is freaking useless as a fighter. -Definitely a very entertaining video in that you just want to see what other bats**t crazy characters they find and pit against each other and them having a bloody good time together. One of the funniest videos in a while.

MUGEN is a PC game. I bet they have a SNES controller that can be connected by USB.
Kinda like how I got the Sega Genesis Mini, the controllers that came with it connect by USB. So I use those controllers to play games on my Laptop. Mostly Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 3.

Hmm, should I rather get warty or scaly?...Why not both since James & Mike show that it's possible when they play Battletoads/Double Dragon for the NES: -I remember renting the SNES port of this game, getting frustrated with the difficulty in the first level and immediately returning it afterwards. Didn't know until years later that this was originally on the NES as well.
-Talking a bit about trading games as kids on the bus which sounds like fun. Certainly cannot remember anything similar happening during my school years (dunno if many others in my class had consoles...then again I was a loner during most of my school life).
-Definitely a positive that they added a 2-player mode where you cannot hurt each other which makes this a plus already compared to the original Battletoads.
-Interesting fact we learn about the early AVGN episodes (around 2006/2007) where James's focus was never on actually beating those games but just getting enough material to make an episode out of it...and he actually was unable to beat most of the games he covered. But since then, he learned that if he actually takes some time, he can actually beat the games (exemplified by Karate Kid for the NES which he can beat in 15 minutes nowadays).
-Speaking of Karate Kid, the two of them mention that they do enjoy watching Cobra Kai. One show I should start watching one of these days.
-Going through the game, I agree with them that it is more of a Battletoads game than a Double Dragon game since most of the stage design (like rappelling down a shaft or riding through a turbo tunnel) are taken more from the former game.
-Of course, it has that game-breaking flaw for them that when one player loses all its life, you get immediately sent to the continue screen instead of letting the other player move forward. I don't believe that this has ever been done outside of the Battletoads game and it is certainly a very sucky game mechanic....so much so that they reset the game and try the 1-player mode instead.
-Another interesting fact is Mike explaining why he stopped doing the Top 10/20/etc. videos. It was due to burnout with doing the research and playing those games being very time-consuming and when he started working on a Top 10 Nintendo 64 game list, the games on that console were so long that it took a lot of time and while playing Jet Force Gemini, he just felt tired and, thus, abandoned that video idea and the Top list videos in general. I certainly understand him in that regard because while I enjoy doing these posts, when I hit a very long video of them, it can get very tiring sometimes.
-Overall, another good video with some interesting trivia to learn from James & Mike.

Certainly cannot remember anything similar happening during my school years (dunno if many others in my class had consoles...then again I was a loner during most of my school life). We did that often. Back in the NES days I was lucky if I got 3 new games a year. Usually getting one for my birthday in the summer then 2 at Xmas. So once ya beat a game we would loan it to someone on the bus for one of their games. Trading games and renting them is how I played piles of games until I was 15 and working.

Huh, a few years afterwards you would get to see the shadow of the colossus but I guess back then you could only go for so much....We shall see when James & Mike play Shadow Of The Beast for the Sega Genesis: -I would have normally gone for another game joke in the intro but both of them actually mention Altered Beast and how they should play it one of these days. Another wish that sadly was unfulfilled.
-Love how James reads the text onscreen and him waiting for new text to appear makes him sound like he is doing a William Shatner monologue. Also love when they come to another screen: James: "Do you want me to read that, too?", Mike: *silently presses the button and skips the text part*. I do agree with James though in preferring to have all the text on screen and then clicking to move on instead of this slow crawl type of thing.
-Yeah, a really weird world with blimps, jet engines, Gummi Glen etc.. They really had a huge melting pot for game design apparently.
-I would say your game character does look a bit scarier than your average Dr. Seuss character.
-Now I am wondering: Is there anybody here who does karate chop or punch a bug on the floor instead of just squising it with your feet?
-Also, isn't it just sad when your jumping attack only works some of the time and you put all your work into getting a projectile weapon (SONIC BOOM!) only for it to go away after beating a boss (? Not sure if that was even a boss or not).
-And of course your progress gets hindered by an invisible wall because the programmers were just that lazy.
-Now I am curious about that Winnie The Pooh game Mike mentions because that sounds like a pretty bad experience. Sadly, they also never covered that one as far as I remember.
-Well, according to James, this is "the best-looking poopiest game they have ever played". Though it also brings back Nam flashbacks of The Immortal which was also a bad experience for them.
-Overall, another fun video with them trying to navigate and making fun of a poopy game.

Well, just because it was a while ago doesn't mean that one cannot finish it. So let's join James & Mike as they continue playing Monster Party for the NES: -Luckily, James & Mike bring you up to speed by mentioning that it was two years prior that they played Monster Party and made it up to level (or round) 4 before running out of time. Back then, they thought it was a fun game, just a bit too much on the endurance side though, and this time...they don't have as much positive thoughts about it but probably still think that it is an OK game. -Imagine how stupid you would feel if you try to hit and hit and hit an enemy without him dying...only to learn that you just had to watch him dance until the end (and there was even a textbox saying "Watch My Dance"). Not exactly one of James & Mike's proudest moments. -That is actually funny: a fish using the old Jaws trick with a fake shark fin being used. Thank goodness them mentioning Baby Shark didn't lead into *that* song. -I don't know whether that is actually the lowest duck ever in a video game. I seem to remember one where you actually sink into the ground and only your eyes are visible. But I cannot recall which game that was. -A neat imagination spot actually: what would you ask the creator/creators of games that you really loved or loathed if you could meet them? Although as James said you would probably meet a whole team of game makers and could not ask anyone in specific about certain stuff in this game. -Boy, James & Mike knew some regular pranksters in their childhood. Given a choice I would probably prefer telekinesis kid to levitation kid because the former actually backed up his claim in a jokey manner while levitation kid was pretty lame. Also, given some of what we learned through Chronologically Confused, there might exist a realm of possibility of there being a Ghostbusters V in existence...just kidding, I don't know what was up with James's friend at that point. -That's the tactic: Become the gargoyle and fly all the way up to the end rather than defeat all those enemies. -Huh, turns out that you have a better chance of beating the final boss as the kid with the baseball bat rather than the gargoyle. Also, the gargoyle having the name Bert still makes me chuckle. -A really weird ending really begging the question: are there multiple endings to this game? Going by Wiki, the answer is no, that is the only ending to this game. -All in all, a very fun video with an entertaining game and some fun discussions and anecdotes accompanying it.

Huh, if I knew that this was a such a high-value job, I would have become a slayer a long time ago. But, as it is, now I can only watch as James & Mike play Demons To Diamonds for the Atari 2600: -Actually one of James's favorite Atari games. I don't know if it is on the same level of love that Mike has for Kaboom!, for example, but James is very fond of it.
-Nice stories about James & Mike's college days where Mike became the cool guy on campus by people finding out that he had an Atari 2600 and an NES. Not to mention James finding Demons To Diamonds and them playing it together with Mike not knowing what the heck the game is about.
-Definitely seems like a fun game and it is apparent why they chose this one for October with the whole demon theme and them turning into skeletons etc. is definitely suitable for Halloween.
-"James is on top, I'm on the bottom...and he creamed me." Sentences I never want to hear from James or Mike ever again....
-Of course, such a simple game cannot go without some kind of bet. Given the choices, I do much prefer the "play a bad game for five minutes/finish a level of a bad game" to the "rarest cartridge for rarest cartridge" type of bet (especially considering, as they mention, that they swap games off of each other all the time anyway).
-Haha, James, trying to get an advantage by not telling Mike that the diamonds net more points? Luckily, Mike found out in time (and James is still fair enough to restart the game).
-Alas, Mike still loses...and has to play through the first screen of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde for the NES. Seriously, that game might as well be modified into the official AVGN logo for how often it comes up. Interesting to know that Mike has beaten this game in the meantime and actually gets through that first screen easily.
-All in all, a fun, shorter video with an enjoyable Atari game to watch.

Back in 90 or 91 a buddy found his old Atari 2600 with about 10 games in the attic at his grannie's place. We hooked it up at his house. Next big party he had the Atari was a huge hit. Learned that night no matter how drunk you are you can still play Atari. From then until about 97 most weekends we would hit up flea markets and places like that and buy up any Atari 2600 games we found.
By the time I moved in mid 97 we had close to 300 games for the 2600. Including a few rare ones. Nothing major like Air Raid. But we did have 2 copies of Chase the Chuckwagon.
Then in 2005 Katrina hit the area. He told his daughter to grab the bin with the 2600 and games. She didnt. We he came back a month later then were buried under a pile of mud. We sat there and cleaned all of them. Some still worked. But the system was dead.
Demons to Diamonds was a great game.
