Way too short. Minus Larry Z it had my favorite wrestlers at that time.😞

Powers of Pain were clearly knockoffs. Demolition might have started as an effort to capitalize on Road Warriors fame, but people who dismiss them as "knockoffs" are tiring, because Demolition not only came into their own but surpassed the Road Warriors in at least one very important category. The thing about Demolition is they were different to the other knockoffs so they could forge their identity. Powers of Pain, Blade Runners etc. you get 2 jacked dudes, give them facepaint, weird haircuts and that's it. Demolition were big guys, but more in a bar room brawler way than a bodybuilder, and that carried over into their ring work. They didn't dominate guys with power, they fought and just beat the crap out of you. They had their own, different promo style so the resemblance was more superficial. Well said.

Last night while having a midnight snack, started looking up old Demolition matches from Prime Time. By the time cable got out where I lived I had given up on WWF. So never saw much Prime time.
Loved Demos vs Islanders from I think the Boston Gardens.

I don’t think you could have had any other team enter at 1&2 in the Rumble and have them believably fight. The Demos were gonna fight. Even each other. That was another one of my all time favorite Royal Rumble moments. It was pretty much like: "Hi Ax!" "Hello Smash!" *ding ding ding*(Both shrug) *punch punch punch punch punch punch*

If I was running a wrestling school, and I had to play a video of an example of a babyface team being over, I'd just play the entrance of Demolition at WM6 on a loop for the students.

It was always Smash for me - nothing to do with my username. Ax was the grizzled veteran who would take a beating but still dish it out, but Smash was pretty charismatic in interviews with his OTT expressions. He also yelled ‘C’mon, kick his ass!’ to one of his teammates at the 88 Survivor Series which was audibly and visibly picked up on camera. I became a fan that day!

For all those reasons, plus Smash had better paint, was a better brawler, threw better punches and just seemed more loose and natural in the ring. It wasn't until I watched Masked Superstar much later that I realized that Eadie had intentionally dumbed down his style of working to fit the Demolition gimmick.

I always liked Smash better too as he was the more charismatic and had the cool lines in promos like "WE"RE GONNA KICK YOUR STINKIN TEETH IN!". However as I've gotten older I've kind of become more of an Ax guy. When watching their matches you can tell that he's clearly the captain of the team and the one leading the matches. Also I think he's a much better brawler of the two in that his strikes looked tighter and better. Darsow I thought worked too loose especially in that character where they were supposed to be ass kickers. On the flip side of the coin listening to shoot interviews with other wrestlers Eadie's strikes looked better because he was actually being pretty stiff and really laying it in. It seemed like their opponents liked working with Darsow better since he was more "light". Regardless though I thought Ax was the glue of the team and it showed when the team fell apart after he left. Crush was really green and not ready but at the same time Smash clearly was better being a follower and couldn't fill Ax's shoes as the leader of the team.

I never thought Ax's punches looked good. He stomped too much and his hands were clearly open a lot of the time.

I thought his repeated double axe handles to the back and that double chop he would do always looked good. Like when he would hammer away on Andre it came off as believable to me. I guess he did stomp too much but that's something that's never really bothered me much. If it at least looked like he was making contact and the blows looked heavy it really wasn't a big deal to me. Hercules was another stomper and I always thought his strikes looked really good too even though I've seen people say they looked terrible.

They've always been one of my favorites. I never really saw them as a Road Warriors ripoff - that legacy should have gone to the Powers of Pain.

Appreciate their original BDSM-positive incarnation under Johnny V. with references to Plato's retreat, bondage, whips and furs, and the West Village in their early interviews.
They were very cool but I always found those early wrinkles more interesting and how few people knew of them or picked up on it because those matches/interviews with that content didn't necessarily appear on tape trader lists.
Also, I was today years old when I found out that there was a Demolition Hux in New Japan that teamed with Ax in the summer of 1991.
