Getting ready to go see it myself. Probably should've rewatched the first one first, only seen it the one time, but maybe I'll do that when I get home.

This one too, even putting aside all the DCU stuff, Billy has to be a kid. This one they address that he's about to turn 18; but with the kid actors you have a finite amount of time to use em. I really liked the recent run where Mary is a freshman in college and the inheritor of Captain Marvel's powers because of Billy being stuck in the Rock of Eternity. It was nice seeing a child/teenage character grow into a young adult and also have the double whammy of dealing with being a college freshman and someone who really wanted to find herself as her own person instead of everyone's older foster sister. And then you have her adjusting to all her new power because she's the only Marvel active. Billy granting Shazam powers to his foster family meant trading raw power for numbers. So even when Billy and Mary were the only ones using the Shazam powers, it was about 50% power for each.
I do feel bad that Mary Marvel's actor didn't get brought back because Grace Carrey is 26 and so could be both Bromfield and Marvel. But then it kinda fits with the more recent comic storylines anyway where Mary's Captain Marvel form just looks like her instead of needing to age up.

Honestly if they went fwd with Grace as Mary and scrapped everything else I wouldn't hate it.

Just got in from seeing it. I'd definitely put it in the category of good, not great, certainly a step down from the first one without nearly as much heart but I don't regret watching it, could see turning it on again sometime as a time killer thing.
Some pretty embarrassing levels of terrible green screen though.
Probably the best Skittles commercial I've ever seen so I guess it has that going for it.

Director David F Sandberg posted a video of some behind the scenes filming recorded in 360 so if you watch on your phone/tablet the video will turn with you. Or you can click and drag on a desktop like me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qrs-RJrQe8MThought it was cool, so I share.

Them letting him do it is weird. Particularly since we now know Adam tanked I mean my guess is they figured the Rock is one of the biggest actors in Hollywood... it'll definitely do well. Ignoring that Black Adam is like not a main stream character, is intrinsically a villain, and is the antithesis of SHAZAM by design but Rock refused to be aprt of it... so it was basically set up to fail. (not to mention just how dire most of the DC universe was due to Snyder's snydering all over it.)

Rock shouldn't have had the power to do that. WB/DC can try and blame him for the decision, but they shouldn't have let the decision be his in the first place. Plus, I doubt the addition of the Justice Society would have made the slightest difference to Shazam's reception, success, or profit. Especially as it was only ever supposed to be a post-credits scene.
I'm not a fan of the Rock or Black Adam and he definitely deserves some dragging over how he acted. But this just reeks of WB/DC trying to make him a scapegoat for their own shitty decisions and performance. That WB/DC are still pulling this stuff is kinda worrying, tbh. Who are they going to blame if Flash doesn't hit a billion or if Blue Beetle/Aquaman 2 flop? (I really, really hope Blue Beetle is a success)

WB/DC really have no one to blame but themselves... Iget they were desperately scrambling for anything in the DC Movies to catch on... but putting all their faith in the Rock playing one of their minor characters was always a stupid idea.

In fairness, the DCU was dying a death of a thousand cuts, at least in my opinion.
- The Snyder Cut did redeem the Justice League movie, but I stand by him being the wrong director for the Superman reboot. It never did feel right.
- REALLY god-awful scripts. The only ones that stand out as being good are the original Wonder Woman (Great), Shazam (Good), and Aquaman (Okay). I don't count the newest Suicide Squad since that's clearly a trial run for Gunn.
- The Discovery Merger/Buyout took a blowtorch to any chance of creative risk in these films
So, yeah, Dwayne sucks for doing what he did, but Black Adam was never going to save it anyway.

I was coming in here to say that there's literally a story from Bubba Ray of all people (which makes it a lil painful to mention ngl) of The Rock telling him THAT DOESN'T WORK FOR THE ROCK like 3 times when they were going over a match and I have not stopped thinking about that phrase since all of THIS started up 😭

As though a cameo in Black Adam would've even helped, that movie flopped too.
