Yeah, that too... WB/DC really have no one to blame but themselves... Iget they were desperately scrambling for anything in the DC Movies to catch on... but putting all their faith in the Rock playing one of their minor characters was always a stupid idea. In fairness, the DCU was dying a death of a thousand cuts, at least in my opinion.
- The Snyder Cut did redeem the Justice League movie, but I stand by him being the wrong director for the Superman reboot. It never did feel right.
- REALLY god-awful scripts. The only ones that stand out as being good are the original Wonder Woman (Great), Shazam (Good), and Aquaman (Okay). I don't count the newest Suicide Squad since that's clearly a trial run for Gunn.
- The Discovery Merger/Buyout took a blowtorch to any chance of creative risk in these films So, yeah, Dwayne sucks for doing what he did, but Black Adam was never going to save it anyway.
It's not hard to find my thoughts on Snyder and his movies but it's pretty apparent really quickly that Snyder was not the guy they should have trusted to be the center of their universe. the terrible launch of the HBO+ should be in there too... or part of the discovery merge Because that whole thing was massively botched.

As though a cameo in Black Adam would've even helped, that movie flopped too. Well I have a feeling that they were originally going to have Adam and Shazam fight in Shazam 2.

I always felt like having Snyder as the main person behind shaping the DCU would be like Marvel handing the keys of the Avengers franchise to the people behind the Netflix Marvel shows.
Sure, the Netflix Marvel shows were all mostly really good, but they were all so different tonally from the Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, etc. movies that trying to smash those ideologies together would get you a mess, which is exactly what I think happened with the DCU.
That's as fair as I can be to Snyder, at least lol

Ah, so they're all in on blaming Rock. Okay

It's another consequence of the fact WB only looked at what Marvel achieved and not at how they got there. They didn't build the world for Black Adam to inhabit, they set up no rivalries, they announced they had the Rock to play the role then filled in everything afterwards.

And, to be fair to Snyder, he wasn't hired to shape the DCEU. Man of Steel was supposed to be the first in a trilogy of standalone Superman movies. Then Avengers became the biggest thing in pop culture and WB were all "Hey, Zack, you got any ideas on how we can be more like Marvel" and thus his five-movie "vision" was born.

Snyder always reminded me of the early to mid 2000s approach to comics and pop culture properties from guys like Michael Bay, Bryan Singer and McG. 'Okay, I see what works about the property I'm hired to work on, but that's old fashioned and stupid, here's -my- vision instead! Storytelling? Pfff, look at the visuals!'

Of all DC Characters, why did Dwayne pick Black Adam?
Did he just decided on who looked the coolest? Surely he realized that he's never been a big name in DC.

The DCEU was cursed from the beginning when WB saw how well the Batman Nolan trilogy did and said "Let's make all our DC movies like that regardless of how little it actually suits the character."

The Rock refusing to be a Shazam villain and instead trying to rework the entire DCU as Black Adam vs Superman only to see both franchises tank and be squeezed out of the universe completely is objectively funny.

He tried to backstage politics his way into the main event, but forgot that shit only really works in the (usually) fly by your seat storytelling of wrestling. When shit is actually planned out and built up over years, you can’t just immediately pivot all the narrative plans.

Dwayne Johnson is a legit A-lister and has a lot of connections in studios through his work and through his partner Dany Garcia. On top of his experience with backstage politics in WWE, he knows how to play the game in Hollywood to get his way. Just this time it completely backfired on him in a most spectacular way.

To hear Dwayne tell it today, he was a fan of Black Adam when he was growing up. In reality, he was initially signed on to play Captain Marvel/Billy way back in 2006 but he latched onto a fan campaign that wanted him to play the film's villain, Black Adam. Over the 15 years of development hell it gradually morphed into a movie in its own right.

I've always preferred Rock in comedic action roles as opposed to the humourless badass he likes to play now.

I thought it was really fun, but if you’re done with DC, WB, or superhero films in general I don’t blame you.
If you just want to see a flying guy punch a dragon and turn your brain off it’s a good time, but this DC / WB drama is worse than backstage drama in wrestling.
