Whelp the rabbit hole has claimed another victim, it started slowly with the odd clip here and there, then the compotation videos and now I just can't seem to stop watching the antics of virtual avatars playing video games, singing and being just plain adorkable for hours on end.
My personal favs are the Hololive EN crew, Korone, Marine and Watame (The latter three like to throw in a Toku song or two during their karaoke streams and I just can't resist that.)

My personal favs are the Hololive EN crew, Korone, Marine and Watame (The latter three like to throw in a Toku song or two during their karaoke streams and I just can't resist that.) Marine recently started playing Rimworld. I started playing the game a few months back to get used to that kind of game again before going back to Dwarf Fortress, and got hooked on it. While only a few clips plus some summaries happen, it's still more or less fun for me to follow the stream or at least the archives since I do know the game mechanics. As for Korone, I enjoy watching her since usually the games she's stream are for most part the types of games I'd enjoy. Watame, fittingly... is fluffy. Like the tone of her voice fits her character real well. And of course, the EN crew is fun with the bonus of them being far easier to understand. HoloID is also pretty good, since they also speak in English so it's easier to follow. For example, Reine.

Also regarding Marine; there's something amusing about that fact that she calls her overseas fans, at least on reddit, as "overseas sexy guys".

And here we have VShoujo's Ironmouse freaking out about space, stars in particular.
Language warning.
Kinda relatable for me. When I was younger, I remember feeling really freaked out about space when I saw a similar star chart in a book, and back then Betelgeuse was the largest star.

Well on her Animal Crossing stream this morning Kiara (Hololive EN) made a very shocking and earth shattering announcement...(People with heart conditions and weak bladders may want to stop reading now.) She confessed that she isn't a fan of Tokusatsu which dispelled most fan theories that she modeled part of her character design after Kamen Rider.
Oh well, I still love that bottom left Austro-Japanese firebird regardless.

We're this far in the thread and this isn't being mentioned? Blasphemy I wonder just how many this moment is responsible for shoving down into the rabbit hole.

For me, I guess it was around the time when the mobile game Azur Lane had a collab with Hololive.
Was around more or less near late in the era of Kizuna AI and the four heavenly kings: Kaguya Luna, Siro, Mirai Akari, and Nojaloli. Like long after the debut of AI. A lot more VTubers started popping up, though at the time far less translators were around. I got a lot more interested with the VTubers like HimeHina, Fuji Aoi for her covers, and there was Natsumi Moe who spoke English.
There was .LIVE who Siro was a part of. Later on they were the first VTuber group that I saw with three group collabs (well, two, as one of them was a two-parter) that got the whole video translated, which I credit to giving me that interested into really seeking out that stuff. As I recall, things were really shifting to where VTubers started leaning into livestreams compared to the likes of AI who'd upload highlights of their streams/shorter than an hour skits.
Around that time, I didn't seek out the stuff as much, but with the Hololive-Azur Lane collab happened, this got me searching and by that time a lot of translated clips began to pop up and thus I was hooked, in particular the Aqua-Shion Minecraft neighbor war clips started happening.
And now we have HoloEN and VShoujo, as well as the various JP VTubers and indies and whatnot. Even Nijisanji seems to be heading to making an EN branch soon since they held auditions for it a month or so ago.
The rabbit hole is getting deeper.

Also, before Hololive really started getting popular, there was the Virtual-san no Miteiru anime. It was terribly mediocre at best, but it was an interesting novelty. Also had a pretty nice ED song courtesy of HimeHina.
Hololive's Tokino Sora also has an animated show alongside other VTubers: Watanuki-san Chi No. As far as I can tell, it's on it's second season, though nothing has been subbed as of yet. Unlike Virtual-san, which had the VTubers as themselves doing skits, Watanuki-san has an ongoing story and such.

Also, Mori's horror game screams are the best. We need more.

Speaking of Ms. Reaper, I'm addicted to this fan made mashup of one of Callie's original songs with the Kim Possible theme:

Anyone else keeping up with this incredibly fascinating almost horror story-like narrative Haachama is spinning in real time between her Akai Haato and Haachama personalities that has been going on for at least a week? This is seriously by far some of the best pure character work and lore building I've seen for any VTuber.

Some Nijisanji stuff.
Fumino Tamaki hosts a stream where other Nijisanji members call her and they chat.
In English. Here are the results.

This is seriously by far some of the best pure character work and lore building I've seen for any VTuber. It's been a wile ride. Graduating from high school and returning to Japan unleashed full Haachama upon Hololive. It's either gonna be a fusion in the end or the birth of an even more crazier persona that'll lead to Haato and Haachama working together. And then when the third persona is dealt with, Haato will backstab Haachama in revenge for the whole head cutting deal.

This is seriously by far some of the best pure character work and lore building I've seen for any VTuber. Well, the saga has reached a conclusion. Maybe. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Haachama reveals that her old hairstyle can now be used on her current outfit. ...she also tweeted that she just stitched up Haato's head on there. edit: Okay, apparently, Haato took off Haachama's head and stitched herself on there. I'll just link to the tweet. twitter.com/akaihaato/status/1359135752865472515Saw the tweet first, then the video. Haato's body was apparently cooked, but the head managed to drug Haachama to get her to sleep, so Haato can steal Haachama's body which led to the tweet. I guess this counts as fusion...?

And she did it. Today, Akai Haato has become the 8th Hololive member to reach that 1 million sub mark.
She also did a stream saying farewell to Haachama. The end... OR IS IT? Well, who knows, at the very end of the stream she started getting calls from Haachama, so maybe this isn't the end of this saga.
Gura, Korone, Fubuki, Pekora, Aqua, Marine, Mori, and now Haato/Haachama. Coco may be next to hit that 1m. Gura hit 2m last month, and while it might be some time before another Hololiver hits the 2m mark again, my bet is either Korone or Pekora.
And while not exactly a Hololive member, the Hololive official account is also close to 1m. Notably, that's where the weekly Holograffiti shorts get uploaded.

Will this lead to a spot in the Hololive Royal Rumble where Akai start's to transform and is eliminated from behind by Miko before she can complete the metamorphoses? Inquiring minds want to know.

Amelia Watson has crossed the 1 million subscriber threshold finally as well. That brings the HololiveEN cast to 3 for 5 on that mark. Kiara and Ina are each just a few thousand shy of being 200K away from the achievement themselves, and they will almost assuredly get there before this year is up.

Pekora was (is?) doing a Let's Play of Monster Rancher 2. She also played the first game months back. Even with the language barrier, and with the help of knowing some of the language (not even enough for full comprehension), it's a good watch for me. Like, if you know a game well enough, things can be understood. Still, I'm amazed at her luck. Like, gameplay wise in the MR games, I'd go for power and accuracy. All or nothing. Yet she manages to reach end game with a monster with no speed at all. High damage, good life and defense, but low stats for accuracy and she still manages to at least reach end game with her starting monster and no save scumming. Many times I'm left amazed on how she manages to win despite the hit chance not being in her favor at all.
In general, I've watched a fair number of VTubers playing MR 1 and 2, and for most part they do tend to stick to their starting monster and manage to get far.
And since I'm talking about Monster Rancher... here's Korone's experience with the game.
