Hell no, that's way too long of a reign.
Nothing wrong losing at mania... that's over half a year for a title reign at this point.
edit: and mania 38 is a year and a half away... I don't see there is any way this storyline continues to be interesting that long.
"overwhelming asskicker heel" is not a story that holds interest for that long.

Bold of you to assume he will drop the title before the entire fanbase gets soured on him like on Becky Lynch. Except he's not going to get pregnant and go away, so not even then. The second something gets over enough that even WWE can't ignore it, they ruin it, so of course this will get ruined. This will keep Roman heel for maybe a few months before he starts getting cheered, then one of two things will happen - he will be a heel who gets constant face pops, or he will turn back face and get booed again. WWE has made themselves the heels here, their support is actively detrimental to the success of their wrestlers. I have been hoping for a Crime Syndikate of Amerika Ultraman Reigns for years, I always thought it would be gold, and hell yes I would write a long enough story for him to have that strap for 18 months. I think heel Roman is one of the biggest potential moneymakers they have had for a long time, they are just many years too late to make the most of it.

Roman holding it until this upcoming WM is fine, but anything longer than that and I definitely see people getting bored with it just because of how terrible they are at booking long reigns. Cole's NXT reign was an exception, but I see it being more like Bayley's than his.

No. Simply because Vince will somehow ruin it midway through and be too stubborn to try and fix it

Yes. Year long title reigns shouldn't happen. A year is way too long without any meaningful story progression.

That'd probably be too long, yeah.
Now, would I be down with him being champion for 6 months or something? Totally, or 9, even, but I rarely am fond of year long reigns, Roman or otherwise.

They shouldnt have many title changes at all until theyre back in front of lives fans. So I'd let him and Drew run atop both shows unless theres a pressing reason to change.

If it keeps him out of the Royal Rumble Match.
Sure.

Too long.
I usually prefer 5-6 months for most champions before they lose the titles.

I am going to be totally honest, I saw the posts in this thread being upset at Roman holding the title until then and was baffled because Roman has been killing it as champion so I'm wondering why him holding the title for 6 months is such a problem and then felt real stupid when I realized Mania 38 is in 2022 and this coming Mania is 37. Will the Iron Sheik finally make it in time for WM 38? No lie, if he's still with us by that point, I really want that Mania to open with Sheik getting into the ring and looking around wondering why no one else is there.

I think the longest I'm willing to take is one year and even that's pushing it.
It would mean he would have had to go through at worst 18 promising faces or at best he feuds with several people for 2-3 months and makes 6-9 people look like chumps assuming no repeats.
I think SummerSlam 2021 is the latest I'd have him drop the gold.
He can lead team SD at Survivor Series and have a feud with Jeff or Kofi for TLC/Rumble. Defend the title in the EC. Beat Fiendat WM37 who he feuds with for 2-3 months. Feuds with someone else starting at MITB and loses to them at SummerSlam. I'd say Big E/Keith Lee but if fans don't return by then, have it be Bryan.

When did people become so fixated on everything happening at WM?

And over a year and an account later I still feel like if you keep to a single status quo for 52 episodes (or more in this case) of what's supposed to be a continually evolving narrative you're a shitty writer.

When did people become so fixated on everything happening at WM? When WWE began conditioning the audience to believe it was the ONLY show that mattered.
