The visceral reaction to names is always hilarious to me. The product itself? Yeah, I get that. But “HER NAME IS ______ FXXX THIS SHIT!” is just hilarious. Names can really sink something. Ask Ayds. Good enough talent can make do. Sure Dolph may stink now, but I very much remember the same “DOLPH ZIGGLER LOL RUINED” talk back in the day, and he’s done quite well for himself and was hugely over at times. (Don’t know who Ayds is, for the record)

Before context of the story they went with: It's mainly because Piper Niven is a fine name with nothing wrong with it and Doudrop sounds... just so unfitting. It's like if Karrion Kross debuted and they just started calling him "Clams McHams" ...on second thought, do that, it'll save his career! Clams McHams is going places.

They stubbornly refused to rebrand, and it eventually was discontinued since their sales dropped by more than half, since, yeah, not a great thing for your diet product to share a name with. And yeah, true, people can overcome a bad name, but it is another hurdle. I do agree people can overblow how big of a setback it can be, though.

I'll concede that a talent can make a bad name good depending on the circumstances (Dolph Ziggler almost became a big star several times despite being called Dolph Ziggler etc).
But my issue is, why even make that work for yourself? You went out of your way to change her name to Piper Niven likely because you thought that was more marketable than Viper...just keep that name. Make NXT UK actually feel like a part of your company instead of the red-headed stepchild that you only allow the accused abuser to leak out from.

Godawful name. Are they trying to do the 'delicate name for a badass' thing?
My only hope it's that it's an Eve thing and that, given that Piper already was happy to let Eve lose, something that won't last.

I know silly names in wrestling are stupid 🤪 The visceral reaction to names is always hilarious to me. The product itself? Yeah, I get that. But “HER NAME IS ______ FXXX THIS SHIT!” is just hilarious. I mean, we knew Retribution was not long for this world when they trotted out the names T-Bar, Mace, Slapjack, and Reckoning for those guys.

This use of her sucks, but getting pushed on NXT UK, unless you're WALTER, is like being the tallest guy in the Lollipop Guild.

All I know is, a lot of Naomi stans apparently decided to be assholes on Twitter and started fat-shaming Niven to the point that Mia Yim had to make a comment on it in her defence. Because the way to respond with implied "bullying" ("My favourite person lost a wrestling match really quickly") is with ACTUAL bullying. Idiots. I hate women’s wrestling stans. They’re also not a new thing. When I was young and first started browsing wrestling forums, the women’s wrestling section could get nasty. At the time Candice Michelle was the Women’s Champion and I remember there were a few of these obsessive fans that would talk shit about Melina, claiming that she was a dangerous worker and tried to kill another diva. Twitter has just made it 50 million times worse! I remember the AJ Alliance doing that shit on this forum. Stan culture is the absolute worst.

You guys brought up Dolph Ziggler..... I remember thinking that guy is dead on arrival with that name. Now.... it's a normal name that I couldn't imagine the guy not having. LOL

I mean, we knew Retribution was not long for this world when they trotted out the names T-Bar, Mace, Slapjack, and Reckoning for those guys. I think this is one of the things that weirds me out about some of these names. Like, you look at other entertainment and know the work that goes into making sure a name can convey a brand and the marketability of it going forward, to the point where if done wrong you can see the strings coming off towards the hands of executives but with WWE, they just come up with something without thinking about how it comes off, what character should come from it etc. Like, we meme on Slapjack but...the f*** is Slapjack as a person? Why did he take that name? Does he like cars? There's no logic in that name and even worse when it's in a group of rebels fighting against the system by wanting a contract for said system, apparently. And no, the Ali social media videos aren't reasons. If WWE aren't going to have them on TV or even put attention to the stuff on his Twitter and Raw Talk, they're not canon.

I feel like Billie Kay could’ve ended her tag partner search with Piper and the storyline could’ve been exactly the same with a much better performer.
