So, no angle around Jay leaving? Nothing to imply that it's all a setup and he has some Grandiose Villainous Plan in place for when he comes back?
Not even any "I'm crying for sympathy, but I really don't mean any of it and am going to come back and shit down all of your throats" pettiness?

Tanahashi has never challenged for the Never Title before One of my fantasy scenarios has always been Tana getting the NEVER title and being all snooty with it He denounces "their kind" of wrestling and will bring his brand of wrestling which is perfect and long lasting Smug Tana is always good I'd definitely be down for that, especially if they called back to his criticism of Shibata.

Not to mention, he just has a blast doing it.

I can understand choosing to wait until he's good to come back to make a thing of it since it could be very up in the air when there can be any follow-through.

Yea, seems like he won't be around for a min, maybe until the G1 so they don't want to book something they can't follow through on right now EVIL/Jay is something that is still on the table tho I still think Jay comes back around Dominion and get the strap off Ibushi

Yea, that's exactly where i'm going with that Bring up Shibata and drive that knife in deeper. It is cold blooded but true but it makes Tana a massive dick. Give him challengers like Ishii, Goto, EVIL etc It would be a really fun reign. If they not going to put the U.S. title on Tana, I think giving him the NEVER is the next best thing. He's had his reigns with the IC title and they got that tied up. Give Tana something to sink his teeth into

No matter where they go with Shingo/Tanahashi, it will rule.
I also think that if Jay is gone for a while and they want Ibushi to drop the belts before he returns , You could tell a really good story with Tanahashi taking them off his hands.

Caught me super off-guard.

So for the Giant Baba death anniversary show again on 2/4 at Korakuen that AJPW and NJPW are holding, the card so far for anyone curious:
Main: Keiji Mutoh, Suwama & Satoshi Kojima vs. Kaz Hayashi, Masayuki Kono & X
Semi main: Yuji Nagata & Yuma Aoyagi vs. Minoru Suzuki & Hikaru Sato
Special singles match: BUSHI vs. Atsuki Aoyagi
Masanobu Fuchi, Atsushi Onita, Great Kojika & Shiro Koshinaka vs. Mitsuo Momota, Takao Omori, Masao Inoue & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi
Jinsei Shinzaki, Tomoaki Honma & Mitsuya Nagai vs. Kotaro Suzuki, Andy Wu & Alejandro.

Those two actually have really good chemistry. Unsurprising. I feel like Ishii could take a salaryman out of a meeting and then take him to a three star match, much less someone like Jay.

I don't think that getting rid of the US title would help anything, but dropping the IC title is stupid, too. I get that they are operating with a skeleton crew, but that's not always going to be the case. As for if Jay has had a better main event than Tana, Okada, and Omega: It's subjective, obviously. I don't agree, but it's not like the premise insults me or anything. Is COVID why they have kept the World and IC belts together? I don't follow NJPW day-to-day, just high level. It makes sense if so....

Don't know how to embed a tweet so follow the link, but some BIG rumours about Jay White's future. I would love to see Jay White in the States..... but WWE? ehhhhh.... I'm not an AEW mark at all, but I feel like with the BC-esque storyline going right now, he would fit better and be used better there.

Gedo has a reputation for being more interested in long term booking, so it's fair to assume that the pandemic threw whatever those plans were all over the place.
That said, I do recall that Meltzer before the pandemic said that EVIL was getting a big push in 2020, and we saw that happen.

Jay leaving would be a big disappointment, but I get that it's his life. The guy lives in Florida, and at this point, he'd be with his wife and dog all the time while making some serious coin.
If he does go, that really opens things up for Ospreay, so strap yourselves in for that fun.

Don't know how to embed a tweet so follow the link, but some BIG rumours about Jay White's future. Interesting I figure he'd be states bound at some point in his career but not this early. Thought Gedo would pay him big money, only behind Okada to keep him happy for a few years This would be a bigger blow then Omega leaving. White was one their top guys and ideally the 1-2 punch with Okada for years to come. They have no one built up to replace him besides Ospreay and he has problems, big f***ing problems
