Can somebody fill me in on this era of Muta? I remember reading something like there are other guys in masks playing the Great Muta character. Including Johnny Stamboli who brought the mask to TNA as Rellik (yes, killer spelled backwards). Is any of this accurate? If so what was the point and when did Muta go from the face paint to a mask?

It's not too weird, since dragons are cool and everything, but Drago's masks fascinate me. Are they rigid? They hold a lot of sharp detail for a wrestling mask, but surely it has to be softer than it looks, or his mask would be kinda dangerous in the ring. When you step away from the legacy, the innovation and success of his career, Liger's mask is really silly with the horns etc. His mask originally looked more evocative of the Jushin Liger anime, kind of like how Tiger Mask was also a tie-in character, but he moved away from that decently quickly, and it began to evolve to be more unique. His mask was still true to the anime that his gimmick was based on.

Of course there are forms.

Yeah, Stamboli was a "fake Muta" and they wrestled each other, and yeah, Stamboli kept the mask, understandably given the expense. As for the face paint to mask, it changed when he grew a goatee and shaved his head since his crown of his head was thinning more and more, and he decided to change things up. I think this coincided with him getting a little more muscle, doing the moonsault less often, and making the Figure Four and the Shining Wizard variants his go-to finishers, all to reinvent himself.

I've always dug Octagon's. Ever since I've seen When Worlds Collide and first saw him, I said "That's my guy!"
(Maybe not so strange now, but then it was quite different than your usual mask.)

Gran Naniwa's has to be up there, especially when combined with his giant Claws. Who are you to doubt El Zoidberg?
