Honestly, I've got a bad feeling about this. If true, this means Sony will own both Crunchyroll and Funimation, and Funimation as of late has been notorious for censoring/revoking localization of shows before bringing it Stateside. This will also likely spell the end of its bundling with VRV (owned by WarnerMedia), and a drastic increase in negotiation power to have anime showing up on any other streaming platform as well.
I hope I'm wrong, but man are the odds not in our favor with the shenanigans they have already done with Funimation...

Sony also owns Funimation and could've done your proposed move back when they did that sale; also they'll obviously want to make their money back from the acquisition. If they ever do this, it would be years down the road after they've regained income whereas the PS subs are guaranteed revenue in the interim.

Well VRV was already falling back hard compared to where it was so I can see this f***ing it over completely

Other than how crap their Roku app ran and is, I love my crunchyroll. If this happens I'm guessing RIP crunchyroll. Cause if it goes the way of the funimation stuff - bahahaha I ain't paying for that shit show.

They bought them for almost the price of 6 Aniplex releases.

Consolidation of distribution isn't a good thing for the consumers, especially in a niche market like anime.

Another thing to consider about the fallout of this is how it will affect the actual anime industry itself, like the production side of things.
It is not a secret that the licensing fee bidding war between FUNi and CR helps fuel the production flames in the industry.
Especially when the two get directly involved and throw down the money needed to buy their way onto the production committees. If Sony owns the whole thing, there goes this war of money and we’re likely to see a significant scale back on the size of seasonal lineups or less risk taking on the quantity of original works.
