Alex Reyes is a bizarre closer isn’t he? Just heard about his game he’s having now then looked at his numbers. So many walks and still a sub-2.00 ERA (before tonight). Doesn’t seem very sustainable,

Ain't nothing easy with Chapman If he not throwing easy gas for strikes by September, they better start positioning someone as the closer There's the possibility that his finger isn't completely healed, but I think that Minnesota broke him. He was still his peak dominant self, till that Minnesota game. Since then he hasn't been the same. That game f***ed him up.

Well the Yankees win I am happy. Still doesn't change my feelings on the ghost runner, I hope to god it is gone after this season.

So anyway don't look now but The Phillies have won six straight games and have taken first place from The Mets... at least for the time being!
I didn't expect that after they dropped two straight to The Pirates before this run began...

It’s been like clockwork for about a month now.
Giants win; Dodgers win.
Giants lose; Dodgers also lose.
I’ll take it.

The great offseason debate is gonna be the Universal DH. Hopefully the draw power of Ohtani will give the owners pause before getting rid of pitchers hitting. Because call me old fashioned but I love the no DH in the NL, hell I'll go a step further and say as a life long yankee fan I don't care for there being a DH at all.

I have no interest in watching pitchers be an automatic out 90% of the time and the strategic value of the double switch is vastly overrated. Time for the National League to get with the times and join the rest of the baseball world in having a DH.
Also, Ohtani plays for an American League team anyway, so if you find the rare pitcher that's actually a good hitter (or the position player that can actually pitch), you can sacrifice the DH slot for their games.

When the Giants had MadBum I was completely against the DH. Having a pitcher thats competent is fun as hell … that said, the Giants of this season have compiled a staff of the worst hitting / bunting humans I have ever seen and a DH would be a godsend, especially with a proto-DH player on the roster (Alex Dickerson) who’s forced into the field because NL.
Hell, even if they could small-ball properly I’d be okay without a DH, but they can’t even do that much.

Idk I just think it's more competitive when teams have to really weigh the pros and cons have certain players and how to use them. That should be the risk reward trade off in the sport. Like honestly there really isn't a need for DH, it's not like we're in the deadball era and you needed an extra batter. like look at Big Papi no doubt HOFer but isn't it more interesting if he had to be playing somewhere on the field for all that?

And if you want to sell me on "strategy of the game" keep the extra inning base rule because that actually does have strategic value I will keep saying this, that nostalgia of watching 16-18 inning games in the regular season where people just swing for a HR was a bunch of BS. I'm good with Universal DH and extra inning rules. Only thing I didn't come around too yet is Robot Umps but that's only because I like the "human error" of the Umps. Tho if you ask me to pick between the Robot and Angel Hernandez, i'm taking the robot

16-18 inning home run derby’s are infinitely better than winning or losing a game on two groundouts that never ever ever should end in a fxxxing run.

No Big Papi career got extended for another few years thanks to the DH. His bat could still play even when he retired but he had bad feet. If he was forced to field too he would been done Your pros and cons come in lineup management. For someone like Big Papi, Nelson Cruz etc... do you give up that big bat at the end of the game because they are in on base and you need a runner. If you have a guy who can only play DH but want to get another bat in the lineup as a day off, you are forced to sit one of your better hitters. All the need in the world for a DH when players are playing older now and you want to save their body as much as you can. Shohei would not be doing what he is doing without a DH. The Angels have no intentions in the world of letting him field (despite the fact that he can). If he was forced to field and pitch, he'd be gassed all the time

Boston looked like an automatic playoff team and now the surging Yankees and Blue Jays have made it interesting
WC looks like it will come down to Boston, Oakland, Yankees and Blue Jays for the two spots. At the very least, an AL East team will make it to the WC
