There's irony that this attitude mocked the past for being cheesy while being unaware that itself might look cheesy in the future.

What makes me cringe about this attitude was this whole "Move over, grandpa, this is the new and full of attitude" thing it had going for it. It's a way of trying to look hip. You even saw that in cartoons. Yo Yogi, Quack Pack, among others had this whole thing of trying to look hip, but it made things look dated in the long run.

Piggybacking off another recent thread, this is exactly why Cool Cat didn't work. A beatnik tiger may have been hip when he was created, but decades later ended up being a product of his time.

I associate this with the early 2000s more than the 90s, but there was a period there where everything was so embarrassingly "adolescent boy," it drove me nuts. Everything was strippers and weed. It's like everyone freaked out about the irony-infused generation X vibe, they decided to hand pop culture over to a 12 year old who not only listened to Howard Stern, but was too stupid to know Howard Stern was kidding.

Dunno if this counts since it was made in 2000 & 2001 but when I think of a show encapsulating EXTREME in the 90s I think of this (a really bad show and I am glad from looking around that the US was spared from this animated atrocity):

In the case of TV shows, it feels like 'Extreme' was just used as a pandering substitution for 'Next Generation'.

To be fair people like Kon-El and Cable. And Superboy's costume is one of the best of the era, IMHO.

As a twelve year old in 1993 I thought Superboy was pretty much the coolest hero ever (before that I thought it was Tim Drake). I had the Superboy haircut, the earring, the motorcycle jacket, the sunglasses, etc. Except I just wore like jeans and Metallica shirts instead of tights. I was a little chick magnet just like he was.

Needs Wonder Woman in leather domme gear. And stripper Sue Richards with a 4 shaped boob window.

I really have no idea how the comics industry survived the 90s.

I'll have no one speak ill of Mountain Dew Superboy. He ruled.
I liked Azbats as an example of what Batman shouldn't be as well.
