I'm sure the most annoying bits to Lawler's schtick would've been there, but I really don't see how it could detract from the show in any serious way.

King was only really cringy during women's matches and forced comedy segments, and since X7 had neither to my memory, it'd have been fine.
Edit: remembered Chyna vs Ivory but it was like 2 minutes

Edit: remembered Chyna vs Ivory but it was like 2 minutes Trish was there too for the Vince/Shane match, but she was out there for all of 2 minutes. Then Lita when she took off her shirt after damn near killing poor Spike with a chair shot, but Heyman said she should take it all off so I doubt Lawler would've called it all that different.

I have to say yes, and I always love classic Jerry at the announce desk.
But I will say that Paul Heyman added a lot to that Wrestlemania. I feel like he kinda fit in with the whole "things are about to change" vibe that show has, to me.
Sure it feels like classic Attitude era, but it's almost the end of it. You got the invasion around the corner, Austin selling his soul and aligning with Vince, etc.
The PPV feels like a real turning point, and having a heelish, abrasive Heyman on commentary instead of the familiar Jerry Lawler that everyone knows and loves ends up fitting the tone of the show for me.
Plus the delivery of the very simple line "they're shaking hands!" by Paul during Austin's heel turn was very well done.
The wrestling and the angles itself would still be a classic definitely regardless of which guy was doing color commentary, but I think Paul really added a lot to the show.
Plus, while Jerry was great at being a heel, you still felt like him and J.R. could coexist and be friends. Paul straight up seemed to damn near piss J.R. off because of how heelish he could be haha.
