First thing I decided to do was not even bother including Summer Rae, Eva Marie, or Paige on the rosters. Eva was the only one who made any appearances, but she never returned after her suspension and the moment to capitalize on her heat was gone. I won’t be booking around injuries or suspensions, so there will be that sense of realism here. Paige will end up returning in November 2017, as she actually did, but sadly, on borrowed time. The reason for this is, if I don’t set myself up with ground rules at the get-go, things can go so far off the rails that we could end up with John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Mickie James for the WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber Match at WrestleMania…
Not that I have or ever would book something like that…
Anyway, for the eight months, there will be only a few small changes in the booking to better establish a pecking order on both brands. Raw will end up looking the most different, due to Emma’s presence on the roster.
For the build to SummerSlam, everything stays the same on both brands. Sasha wins the title on the first night and wears it into SummerSlam, where she loses it back to Charlotte. Meanwhile, Nia Jax starts defeating local women’s talent in order to begin establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with.
On Smackdown, we build off the existing Becky/Natalya rivalry, while adding Naomi, Carmella and Alexa into the mix. (Eva is there, but only to get us to SummerSlam) At SummerSlam, Nikki Bella returns as the mystery partner with Alexa and Natalya to defeat Becky, Naomi and Carmella.
Our first big change will involve the presentation of Bayley on the main roster. The reason being, they decided to try and rebuild her NXT character from the ground up, but also making her the tagalong kid to Sasha. Bayey needs to establish her own character out of the gate, not tied to Sasha in any way. So the night after SummerSlam, Bayley makes her main roster debut to confront the new Champion. She makes it clear that she wants to continue where she left off in NXT, revolutionizing the Women’s division. She beats Dana on her first night and is quickly named the number one contender at Clash of Champions. Unfortunately, Bayley comes up short against Charlotte and moves on to feud with a returning-from-injury Emma, so that Sasha and Charlotte can continue on from their previous SummerSlam issues.
On Smackdown, things go as they did in real life, with Carmella going heel on Nikki and Becky becoming the first Smackdown Women’s Champion at Backlash. Heading into No Mercy, Becky is feuding with Alexa and Carmella is feuding with Nikki, while Naomi and Natalya work in with the existing pairs. Becky’s medical issue keeps her off the No Mercy card, so Naomi is subbed in. But in this booking, Alexa defeats Naomi, because number one contenders should not be losing matches when they’re being built to their title shot! And Nikki beats Carmella to settle their issue.
Sasha returns to build to a rematch with Charlotte. We’ll have a segment on Raw where Charlotte attacks Sasha during her return and attacks her ribs with a chair. Sasha comes out the following week, taped up and we think she’s retiring, but instead, she challenges Charlotte to a Hell in a Cell Match! Because in real life, there was no reason to have it in the Cell, other than the “First-Time-Ever” kick they were on with the women at the time. This way, Charlotte did something brutal to Sasha, that could have potentially ended her career, so now Sasha wants revenge in the match that potentially ends careers. At Hell in a Cell, Sasha gets the win, in her hometown, in the main event (I wouldn’t have made it the main, but I couldn’t justify Seth/Owens or Rusev/Roman, either. Besides, it makes the title and the division feel important to be headlining a PPV like that).
So now, we head to everyone’s favorite, the one night of the year where Raw and Smackdown go head-to-head, that’s right, it’s the Survivor Series!! So, there will be one adjustment to the women’s match, that being Emma replacing Alicia Fox on the Raw team. Both squads have issues heading into the match, of course:
On Raw, Sasha and Charlotte just had a brutal Hell in a Cell Match for the title. Bayley is now feuding with Charlotte again, while Sasha is fending off Emma. As well, Nia Jax is a looming threat to the entire division. On a side note, I will mention that Dana Brooke has been seen hanging out with Emma backstage on a few occasions and helped her defeat Bayley on the Hell in a Cell Kickoff Show. Bayley and Sasha would defeat Emma and Dana on the following night’s Raw. In the weeks that follow, Charlotte confronts Dana over where her loyalties lie…
On Smackdown, the team will stay as is. Becky and Alexa have their match on free TV, with Becky retaining, but in a way that opens the door for Alexa to receive a rematch. Nikki defeats Natalya to earn the team captain spot, but Nikki starts finding herself the victim of a mysterious stalker. Carmella and Naomi work in with the other ladies for the next month or so. At Survivor Series, Team Raw picks up the win, with Charlotte and Bayley as the sole survivors.
The road to TLC focuses mainly on Alexa and Becky’s rematch, which will be a Tables Match. In addition, a four-way match is announced between Nikki, Natalya, Naomi and Carmella, with the winner earning a future Women’s Championship match. Alexa captures the title at TLC, while Naomi defeats Natalya and Carmella to become the number one contender, after Nikki is found laid out backstage…
On Raw, the path to Roadblock centers around who will be challenging Sasha for the title. A Triple Threat match takes place between Emma, Charlotte and Bayley, which main events Raw that week. In the build up, there are two stories that play out over the course of the night. The first is both Charlotte and Emma ask Dana to back them up during the match. The other story is Nia Jax feeling slighted after being included from the match. During the match, both stories come to a head. Nia attacks Bayley on the arena floor, slamming her through the crowd barricade. When Emma rolls Bayley back in and covers her, Dana grabs Charlotte’s foot to prevent her from breaking up the pin. Dana and Emma embrace, as Dana is now aligned with her old friend once more.
At Roadblock, Nia defeats Bayley. Sasha retains against Emma after Charlotte prevents Dana from interfering. Heading into the Rumble, Nia attacks Sasha and demands a title shot. Nia has been booked to look like a monster going in, so Sasha’s back is against the wall. As well, Charlotte and Bayley call a temporary truce in order to face Emma and Dana at The Royal Rumble.
On Smackdown, Alexa and Becky continue to battle for the title. Alexa starts getting assistance from the masked La Luchadora, who is eventually unmasked as the returning Mickie James. Naomi, the number one contender for Alexa’s title, helps Becky even the odds. As for Nikki, her mystery attacker is revealed to be Natalya. A six woman tag is set for the Rumble, with Becky, Naomi and Nikki taking on Alexa, Mickie and Natalya.
At the Rumble, Naomi pins Alexa in the six woman tag, while Emma pins Bayley after Charlotte walks out on her partner. Sasha retains the title via count out when Nia puts herself through the barricade.
Heading into Elimination Chamber, three matches are on the docket for the women’s division. Becky and Mickie will go one-on-one, as will Natalya and Nikki. And Naomi will get her title shot against Alexa.
Mickie defeats Becky with a roll-up, aided by the ropes, while Nikki gets the win over Natalya, only to get jumped by her after the bell. Finally, Alexa defeats Naomi to retain the Smackdown Women’s Championship.
On the Raw side, the path to Fastlane is built around two matches. Nia feels she deserves another title shot, after Sasha got a count out win. Their match at Fastlane must end in the ring. After walking out on Bayley at the Rumble, Charlotte must contend with Bayley one-on-one at Fastlane.
At Fastlane, Sasha retains via submission with the Bank Statement. Meanwhile, Bayley scores a decisive win over Charlotte, setting the stage for WrestleMania 33. Bayley is named the number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks. On the Smackdown side, it’s announced that Naomi is injured. Becky Lynch continues to wage a two-on-one war with Mickie and Alexa, leading to Daniel Bryan announcing that at WrestleMania, Becky and a partner of her choosing will challenge Alexa and Mickie, with whoever scores the pin winning the title.
At WrestleMania, Naomi makes a surprise appearance as Becky’s partner and pins Bliss to capture the Smackdown Women’s Championship. In the Raw Women’s Championship, Sasha counters the Bayley-to-Belly into a rollup to retain the title.
On the Raw after Mania, Charlotte officially turns face, teaming with Bayley and Sasha against Emma, Dana and Nia in a winning effort. On Smackdown, Naomi retains the Smackdown Women’s Championship against Alexa Bliss in a no-DQ match.
The Superstar Shakeup sends Charlotte to Smackdown and Alexa and Mickie to Raw.
