I like that Shida's scared of Abadon. (Shocking, given my sig pic of Abadon's debut, I know.)
It feels consistent. She wasn't afraid of Kong, or Nyla, but it isn't like she's always unshakeable. She sells for Abadon because she's really good at it, but beyond that, I think she's just more vulnerable to mental threats than physical ones.
When Hikaru Shida was new-er in AEW, and Riho was going to defend the Women's title against Emi Sakura, Shida was asked who would win the match. Hikaru had no hesitation saying she believed Emi Sakura would defeat Riho, with both Shida and Riho being students of Emi's. She was shown to be shocked when Riho overcame Emi Sakura and defended her title successfully.
Why am I connecting this and Abadon? It's because Emi Sakura intimidated Shida not physically, but psychologically due to being her trainer, someone who cut a rather imposing figure to her mentally. Hikaru Shida is someone who has faced overwhelming physical odds a number of times, and she doesn't intimidate easily there, but she isn't infallible or invincible. Abadon is uniquely positioned to challenge her psychologically, which is where Shida is considerably more vulnerable.

It’s oddlt similar to Seth Rollins being afraid of The Fiend, but hopefully has a better ending than that

It’s oddlt similar to Seth Rollins being afraid of The Fiend, but hopefully has a better ending than that Given how that ended, it'd literally have to unless one of them just died from a blood vessel rupturing mid-match or something. |
