Sort of following from the 'why the ultimate warrior failed' thread.
We all know Hogan was a big draw, no one denies that espically in the early days but when ever anyone talks about the other champions, it's always 'business was down', 'dropped the torch/ball' 'worst drawing champ ever.'
Warrior gets described as a failure, as does Slaughter (although his time was short). Bret and Shawn get hit with this stick and Diesel gets a very rough time about it. Even undertaker's 1997 reign doesn't get much praise. I'm not sure how Savage's run went down rating wise, perhaps he was the exception?
By the time we got to the attitude era it seemed the brand itself was the draw and not just the top of the card.
Is it just that Hogan was soooo successful that anyone else was never going to reach those heights and by default where going to look a failure even though in a non Hogan universe they would be considered good?
Is it like saying this hot new band are a failure cause they're not as big as The Beatles?

It is partly that when you get so high, you can only go down. I will say this, Bret and Davey were draws internationally.

Didn't Savage do quite well both in the early babyface & later post turn 88/89,run?

Savage was a huge draw. Bret wasn't that close to either guy but compared to other champs in his era, he did well.

Hogan and Austin weren’t merely “draws”, they were two of the biggest draws of all time.
We may be raising our standards for what constitutes as a draw way too high if that’s the accepted benchmark. A lot of midcarders were big draws in their own right.
