As a guy who has 2 big brothers a big sister and a crap load of aunt's, uncles and cousins. I can say the family interactions were spot on. I was the youngest. I was a little shit disturber especially if I had an audience. The things by brothers did sometimes. I had it coming. There were also many times my sister would intervene and take my side against my brother's but than later call me names (much like Kevin's sister did) I've pissed off my uncle's enough for them to call me out infront of the family.
But onto the movie. If you look close at the milk spilling scene. When the dad throws away the used napkins. He also throws Kevin's plane ticket in the trash. He was never meant to go on that trip

I like how mom goes through all that BS to get home to Kevin and arrives about 45 seconds before everyone else who just waited.

I rewatched all the titles on D+ last week. My thought was, this is basically Saw for kids.

I've kinda wondered if the family wasn't basically portrayed in the movie as Kevin saw them. You know, the way any 8 year old kid would think about their family for screwing up his pizza night. Bunch of jerkasses that could disappear the next day without a trace and his world would be better for it. I think that’s the intention, they just don’t do a great job of showing it

The mom's alright. I think she's just over-stressed by this big ass extended family and, combined with the usual stress of the holidays, doesn't want to put up with anyone's bullshit. I would agree with you on this but when she told Kevin to wish for another Christmas were he was by himself like last year that made her bitch of the year for me. Especially with how upset and sorry she was at the end of the 1st movie and what she went through to get back to Kevin.

And, as much as Kevin got "dumped on" in his words, he could be a pain himself. Playing with glue guns in the garage, refusing to pack, jumping around and yelling etc. I can see why she was done with him by the end of the night. Even if the rest of the family was much worse. Yeah Kevin can be quite the asshole too. Come to think of it is there anyone who isn't at least kind of an asshole until we meet John Candy?

Mr. Marley, the old man, wasn't shown being mean to anyone. He had a fight with his son, but that was years before.

Kevin decided to unnecessarily troll him with the gangster movie.

Not an asshlole but he didn't help himself by staring intimidatingly at Kevin when he was buying a toothbrush.
