The July 23 2018 episode of Raw was Bray Wyatt's last appearance before his big return in April of 2019 with his new gimmick. With The Fiend Gimmick becoming huge & immensely successful. I believe there should have been a huge way to write him off TV in 2018 instead of him quietly going on hiatus. setting up his return in 2019 with The Firefly Funhouse.
What ways would you have booked it

I dunno. How about have Randy Orton sets him on fire or something?

Have him lose a buried alive match, he could inherit it from Undertaker/Kane and have it be used the same way to write him off for a while or to give him a gimmick refresh.

I mean the last thing he was doing was teaming with Matt Hardy.
They were losing to teams like The B-Team and Ziggler & McIntyre.
Maybe it’s best to just forget about that time frame.

He was so far in the ground as a character at that point that he was better off just being gone. That was when he was losing to the B-Team and wearing that shitty apron getup - the character was pretty much such a joke by then that it didn't deserve a write-off.

I mean, personally, I'd just not use him anymore... But I'll play along.
Bring in the Firefly Funhouse character earlier, and just have him basically do that stuff while also losing all the time. Everyone around, questions what the f*** happened to him, and never gets any straight answer. Then have him do a promo where he explains that he's in therapy and this and the funhouse is means of coping, and keeping the devil locked away inside (alleging it's the old gimmick, but we learn later it's actually the clown). He loses some more, and eventually loses his cool and brutally beats down someone leading to a feud with them. He tries to apologise and make amends, but the other guy isn't hearing it and they have a street fight or something, Bray gets destroyed, but comes back with the clown mask from under the ring, surprising the opponent and takes advantage to win with the mandible claw. Then other stuff happens, and the clown gimmick becomes more of the dominant personality. Something like that... no magic shit though, f*** all that.

Perhaps something akin to what I theorized about? It may be over the top, but Bray being seen somewhere down and defeated, and something off camera telling "Husky" that he failed him before a monstrous shadow looms over him about to do...who knows what. This is the real Bray, aka the Fiend, who had possessed Husky Harris and is now leaving him for a new host body.
It is better that there was an element of mystery with the FFH just appearing and what was said the first ep, though.

I wouldn't go for a long storyline killing off the character. After the Hardy and Wyatt team loses to the B-Team, Bray lays out Matt Hardy with a violent attack, suitable enough to write off the Woken gimmick. Then when Bray is done killing Hardy, the lights go off, and then come back on with Bray's lantern and apron still in the ring, emphasizing that Bray is leaving his persona behind as well.

Yeah, the Bray gimmick at that point was doa. He was basically a parody of himself teaming with Matt Hardy... hell you could kinda draw parallels from that one to the Firefly Funhouse character... and just have it be he left and when he was gone the real Bray started coming out. If you want to go for his magic stuff >_>
