Sting has said he wanted a match with Taker for over 20 years.
Never once did Taker ever say he wanted a match with Sting.
That's all that needs to be said.

Not surprised
Taker said the cinematic match he did with AJ took a lot out his body

iirc from interviews and gossip posted on here over a decade, Sting wanted a match with Taker but Taker wasn't keen on one (possibly as he thinks its been left too late). Was Sting offered the spot in 2011 and turned it down? I forget. I know Abyss was offered a Taker Mania match but turned it down to wrestle Tyson Tomko instead...

Maybe you should’ve jumped to WWE earlier if you wanted this Taker match so bad instead of dicking around in TNA dressing like a clown to be an accessory to a Bubba ray Dudley face turn.

I still never buy them in good faith offering Abyss a match with Taker at mania. Feels like something that might happen if Vince doesn't change his mind but it still feels like blowing smoke up his ass for something that would not likely happen

Good. Neither man could've physically handled it. As has been mentioned, if he wanted a match that bad, he should've come before each guy was being held together by duct tape.

This is true but you have to remember how good Bully's calf muscles looked back then. IRRESISTABLE! GET LOST VINCE!

We didn't get Sting v Taker, but we did get "the all time Sting in a Sting mask!" so swings and roundabouts...

Sting's mistake was asking WWE instead of focusing on selling it to a blood thirsty middle eastern dictator.

Only Sting/Taker match I've ever been interested in is Surfer Sting vs Original Taker. Yeah, it would probably suck, but less so than what a 2015+ cinematic Sting/Taker match would.

The Sting and Undertaker match seemed very one sided. They had a couple of opportunities to do it. WM and after that when Sting got hurt.
There’s something behind all this. Taker has worked with EVERYONE! From HBK and Angle to Nathan Jones. If this was something Taker wanted, it would have happened.

I feel the same way about Taker vs Sting the same way I feel about Austin vs Hogan or Austin vs Goldberg.
Some dream matches are best left to the imagination. I feel like if this match happened, it would have had extremely high expectations. There would be a good chance that it would have failed to meet those expectations and fans would consider it a disappointment.
As appealing as some matches sound, I think some are better off left alone.
As for a cinematic match, this is just my personal opinion so please don't get mad at me for it, but I think cinematic matches are really lame so if that happened with these guys, I would be totally uninterested.

These two could have just done giant elaborate entrances vs each other and I think I would have gotten my moneys worth. It just never lined up to be the case.

If I had to guess, something happened between those two back when Taker was Mean Mark in WCW. Something that bothered Taker so much that he just refused to work with him. Again, just a guess. I have no proof.

I have no proof. He was WCW. That’s enough. Outside of Booker T during the Invasion, in almost 20 years the only WCW guys that pinned him in singles matches were already long time WWF/E guys like Jericho and Big Show or legends like Flair.
