I loved almost everything about this. I understand the criticisms that I've heard but I think that's part of it. This is not a protagonist you're meant to truly root for. She's on a destructive path and even when she gets a relatively small win, you see that it's not something she enjoys. That makes her final plan in the end make more sense. The movie goes in directions I never expected, features a great cast, has fantastic music, and Carey Mulligan is exceptional in the lead role. [****½]

Mr Baseball
Streamed on Peacock
Had this on DVD years ago,but someone stole it. Saw it was on Peacock and gave it a watch. Fairly funny film. Decent cast. Reminded me that before Blue Bloods Tom Selleck was a good actor.

72. American Guinea Pig: Bloodshock* *DVD* A guy is just systematically tortured/experimented on for no real reason. Teeth are pulled, strange devices are used, eventually it’s revealed that the person he’s communicating with in the adjacent cell via notes is a woman being subject to an entirely different set of “tests”. All you want to know is “why”? It seems like the doctor doing all this has a reasons and actually knows what he’s doing. It may have something to do with endorphins released into their blood streams when subject to such pain, which the doctor extracts from them and injects into himself for some unexplained high. It doesn’t matter. What matters is if you’re offended. I wasn’t offended but I was mystified by what I saw. It was kinda neat watching one of these shock movies from the other side, that of the victim. The music in this one was really effective. That was what set it apart from other Guinea Pig movies. As was the black and white presentation. The only problem wasn’t the movie itself but the audio on my DVD being out of synch by an second or two. That really takes you out of any movie, no matter what it is.

*HBOMax
It's an improvement on the original but it's still not great. The characters getting more backstory time is welcome though it would've been better to give them their own movies beforehand. This is a solid compromise. The tone staying Snyder's intended way helps and the whole thing makes more sense, it just really doesn't need to be as long as it is. [***]

73. Visceral: Between the Ropes of Madness* *DVD* This was one messed up ride but it was pretty much what I needed today. A disjointed tale of a boxer who loses the big fight and it releases some evil in him that he’ll never be able to come back from. The gore, imagery and tone were all wicked. There was a lot of sexual stuff which I usually don’t like but it fit this one. What I really loved was the presentation of Judas. That was some f***ed up shit. But the whole thing was f***ed up.

24. So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993) 25. Captain Ron (1992) 26. Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)Latest arrival from Netflix. I remember watching this in the theaters when it first came out and seeing Bebe Neuwirth show up at the end. I think I was the only person in the theater who understood who her character was supposed to be. Oh well, I appreciated the cameo. Really fun movie on par with its predecessor. Awkwafina was a fun addition to the cast, Kevin Hart did a much better job impersonating Danny Glover then he did Fridge, and Jack Black just steals every scene he's in.

74. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!* *Amazon Prime* So Sharknados have become a regular weather occurrence now, but nobody really seems too worried about it. The first two were far from serious cinematic fare but this one somehow becomes a parody of itself. It’s over-the-top ridiculous in every way imaginable and it doesn’t really work for me. It’s too stupid. What was nice was Frankie Muniz (who I’ve always hated) gets one of the most ridiculous deaths of them all. That was nice. The CGI is better and some of the gorier parts are a little nicer. But this is already getting tired and I have three more to go.

Just a delightful film. The animation style is unique and that helps it stand out but it shines due to the heartwarming story. It's next to impossible to not fall in love with these characters and get swept up in their adventure. [****]

25. Red Dot
A Swedish film about a couple who head to the country for a vacation and end up running for their lives from murderous psychopaths. There are lots of twists and yet every question the plot raises gets explained clearly and quickly. It rides the line between painfully uncomfortable and outright horror. I enjoyed it.

75. Sharknado 4: the 4th Awakens* *Amazon Prime* It was kinda hard to top the absurdity of the last one so things were dialled down a lot this time and I actually enjoyed it a lot more. Carrot Top was in the first five minutes and that’s enough to sell me on anything. And Tommy Davidson, does that man age? He looked exactly the same as he did twenty-five years earlier on In Living Color. Still stupid, and while the bar is low this is by far the best one in the series so far.

76. Lung II* *DVD* So I bought the Lung set from Unearthed Films which includes both movies. Lung II seems to be the feature of the two though so I watched it first. It’s also commonly referred to as “Lung”. But there is another movie here called “Lung”, of which there is zero information of on the international. Anytime I googled “Lung movie” I was redirected to Lung II. ...which is also the second part of the Flowers series. So I don’t know what is going on. And I’m putting way too much thought into it anyway. Whatever movie I watched here was f***ing awesome, surreal imagery. It’s like a modern Begotten...just nowhere near as punishing to the senses. Maybe it’s best to compare it to the middle ground between the visuals Trent Reznor wished he could produce in the 1990’s and that movie (Begotten), with a modern touch. Not a word is spoken and there is no real story to speak of, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. 10/10

77. Sharknado 5: Global Swarming* *Amazon Prime* Another night, another round of “what was Tara Reid on when she filmed this one?” She looked like shit this time around. I didn’t enjoy this as much as the fourth one but I still liked it. They went for a more James Bond-ish, spy action movie this time around. It was pretty funny that so many characters who spoke one line to advance the movie and then died. It just happened every five minutes. There was some hilariously not so subtle product placement.

On paper, this movie is pretty silly but it works well because everyone seems so game for it. The boxing scenes are really well done and the story involving the protagonist and his son, while nothing new, was heartwarming. A really fun and enjoyable flick. [***½]

Pete Davidson is way better than I expected in this movie. It has some genuinely funny moments, a sweet story, and very good acting. The supporting cast is tremendous from Maude Apatow to Bill Burr. Like a lot of Judd Apatow films, it is too long and has pacing issues. [****]

78. The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time* *Amazon Prime* I was honestly disappointed by this one. Expectations for a Sharknado shouldn’t be high at all but the fifth movie ended with the world decimated and Fin wandering the Wasteland and meeting with his son and having the Back to the Future ending. I would have loved post-apocalyptic Sharknado instead it was time-travel Sharknado. But it was still good. Overall this series was a lot better than you’d think. But that’s from a guy who’s watched and throughly enjoyed the Guinea Pig, Violent Shit and Lust of the Dead series. Ian Zerring was great and should get more roles as a lead in cheesy action movies. Tara Reid was a train wreck. All the cameos were hilarious. Almost every movie had a pro-wrestler or 1980’s heavy metal star. And so many other pop culture icons. You’re not going to believe me but I’m going to recommend them, especially the last three.

79. Lung One* *DVD* Visually this was pretty much exactly the same as the first one...the second one...the other one, except maybe a bit blurrier. A lot of the same sets are rescued and many scenes are repeated but played out played out differently. So clearly it was all filmed at the same time and just broken up to tell two different stories. The one I watched last night being about...I don’t know. And this one being about...I don’t know that either. But this time the single character in the movie goes into a slummy urban area where he just sees more corpses and nothingness. That makes it sound like I didn’t like it which is completely wrong. I really enjoyed it. For a few moments I was thinking it would’ve been better if both parts were edited down into one 80 minute movie but nah. I like them as they are.

26. Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) 27. Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD (1998)A few years back I decided to track down and watch what I could of all the pre-X-Men Marvel based movies. I missed a few and this was one of them so I decided to make up for it. I wanted to like this, I really really did. I genuinely enjoyed Punisher '89 and Captain America '90, and I figured "how much worse can this be?". Much worse. So much worse. Unashamedly cheesy, it has a general aesthetic of a 90's first-run syndicated action show and special effects to match. It feels less like a movie and more like a lead-in for Team Knight Rider. Hasselhoff's performance was so over-the-top it felt like a parody, and he was far from the only one in the movie like that. This was just bad.

One of the biggest disappointments of 2019. The monster fighting is fantastic. If you can cut this movie to only contain that, you’ll dig it. The human drama drags this thing down like a heavy anchor. Still, there’s enough of the former to have made this enjoyable. [***]

59. Single White Female - Watched this on Blu Ray. Okay, this is definitely something that I'm not sure where I stand with how I feel about this movie. Performance-wise, all actors did a good job, especially the two lead actresses. Bridget Fonda did a good job displaying emotion and seemed convincing as a caring person, but also saw what was going wrong in some situations. While Jennifer Jason Leigh did a good job playing someone with emotional problems that bordered on possessiveness (and also when she crossed into full-on possessiveness). The story was decent, and I heard that it was based on a novel, but I'm curious as to how the novel played out. But at the same time, it zigzagged on what was going to happen as there were scenes that I didn't see coming, as well as not surprised at what will go down. Overall, it was a decent way to pass the time, but I wouldn't say that I loved it either.
