-. Faim de Mort trilogy* *DVD* Part one A man wakes up in a drunken stupor and hits his head in the kitchen en route to get something to eat. When he awakens he’s accosted by various grisly spectres which he dispatches in equally as grisly a manner. Then various parts of their carcasses turn to food and he eats them. Extremely gory and disturbing but also funny thanks to the soundtrack (Strauss’ “Blue Waltz” aka “that song from 2001: A Space Odyssey”) and the imagery of stuff like fingers turning into gummie bears. Part two The man is still eating the carcass of what may have been his wife but it also appears as though he in fact died when he hit his head. Then a bunch of grisly ass stuff happens. That’s really all I can say. This one looks much better than the previous part. Part three The man did indeed die at the beginning of part one and he comes back as a ghost himself to witness (presumably) his wife/Satan dismembering HIS corpse. Some wicked visuals in this portion that were a little lost by the comical sound effects. This was one f***ED UP movie. It was like Evil Dead 2 meets the Vomit Gore trilogy meets Loony Toons. That sounds like a joke but that’s really what it was. The IMDB page even calls it “comedy” before “horror”. My only problem was paying full price for a 35 minute video that should have just been bonus features on a full length. That’s why I’m not giving this a number. Some wonderful gore makeup and prosthetics though. And the unnamed actor does a great job in the silent role.

65. Predator 2 *DVD* This movie isn’t given the credit it deserves. While it lacks Arnold and the 10/10 manly awesomeness of the first one it’s a damn good action movie. Danny Glover is great (although him facing off against the Predator in hand-to-hand combat isn’t as convincing as Arnold doing so) and the backdrop of a different sort of “jungle” is great. The violence is really good as are the entire supporting cast. Do yourself a favour and revisit this one.

#77 - Cherry
*AppleTV+
The Russo Brothers make sure this movie has some high points and Tom Holland is really good. The issue is that this drags on for way too long and doesn't need to be two and a half hours. It becomes a chore to watch. [**½]

24. Polar
Mads Mikkelsen wants to retire from being an assassin but his boss would rather kill him than pay his pension. Cartoonish villains, blood-spurting violence, and seizure inducing flashbacks all add up to an erratic but enjoyable movie.

66. (close enough to 666) American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore* *DVD* Whoa nelly, I am going to hell for this one. Very similar to the second Japanese Guinea Pig except this time it’s a larger group of sadists and two girls. They dismember the girls much slower. And the guy wearing a goat skull while doing it is much cooler than a samurai. But Flowers of Flesh and Blood was much more effective in pretty much every way. Not to say I couldn’t take my eyes off this. The music was f***ing incredible. But the acting (even though it was all voice overs) was absolutely abysmal.

Coming 2 America
Amazon Prime
Been wanting to watch this since the day it hit Amazon Prime. But was trying to find a night where we could all watch it together. Well that night was last night.
Loved all the callbacks to the first film. Lots of little inside jokes that made me laugh fairly loudly. Wasn't as great as the original but was way way better than I expected.
3 outta 5 stars.

67. AVH: Alien vs. Hunter* *Tubi* It’s takes a lot for a movie to make me literally put my hand over my mouth, turn to my son and say “oh my f***, that was bad”. This gem did. The fight sequence between the militia, the Hunter and the alien should be witnessed by all lovers of fine cinema. So yeah, this is an Asylum movie that came out a week before Alien verses Predator: Requiem, an Asylum movie in its own right. With an Alien that changes size from comparable to a human to almost elephant, a Hunter that looks like something from the Trash Planet in the animated Transformers movie (nothing like on the cover), sound effects that don’t line up with special effects and a cast that, well...weren’t good enough to be cast in AVP So we obviously loved it.

23. Muppets Most Wanted (2014) 24. So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993) 25. Captain Ron (1992)So I decided not to watch the final two Pirates of the Caribbean movies and instead check this out, which I'm almost positive takes place in the same universe. Truth is I had long since forgotten about this movie, then when Seth Meyers referenced it in one of his monologues a couple weeks ago I decided to throw it in my Netflix queue. Then I discovered it was actually available for free, legally, on YouTube, so I took it out of my Netflix queue and here we are. Decent but forgettable old 90's movie highlighted by a fun performance by Kurt Russell as the title character. For some reason I thought I remembered the wife being played by Jan Hooks, don't know why.

#78 - Avengers: Infinity War
*Disney+
This was more ambitious than all the prior superhero movies. For the most part, this was very well done. They paired people together in great fashion, the action was great, and there plenty of memorable moments. Everything involving Thanos was nearly perfect. He felt like a massive threat at every turn, while also getting enough development to feel like a real character. This is an epic that is one of the best comic book movies ever. It’s the best “part one” I’ve ever seen with one of the most heart-wrenching endings ever. [*****]
#79 - Raya and the Last Dragon
*Theater
I loved this. It features the gorgeous animation we've come to expect from Disney but it somehow keeps getting better. This movie is beautiful. The protagonist learns a clear lesson and the story doesn't deliver a ton of surprises but it's a really fun ride. There's also something of a twist near the end that allows both the hero and her rival to come across as heroes who save the day. The voice work is great, with Awkwafina standing out. I really enjoyed the team put together for the main adventure and the whole thing hits you emotionally when you don't expect it to. [****½]

68. Sharknado 2: the Second One* *Amazon Prime* Way worse than the first one but at least semi-self aware. Still though, so many facepalmy moments. But there’s a lot of b-lister in it that I really like, like Kurt Angel, Judah Freelander, Judd whatshisname (from Taxi) and the dad from the Wonder Years. Tara Reid looks like she was f***ed out of her mind when they were filming it. She’s f***ING TERRIBLE. She’s not even in it very much so I wonder?

57. Onechanbara: The Movie (Also known as "Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad") - Watched this on Tubi. I know adamclark52 had mentioned this one before, but here's my take on it. First thing I want to say is that I had recently started playing "Onechanbara: Z2 Chaos" for PS4 because I had bought it. Really, only a handful of those games actually came out to these parts, and I guess that includes Onechanbara Origin, even though it's only for download (It's a Japanese series, so more games from the series were released out there). As for what I thought about it, well, I am really mixed on it, but it's more the cons outweighing the pros. As someone who is new to these games, I didn't really know what to expect. While I have been playing one of the games lately, I can say that that game in particular had come out much later than this movie did. With that being said, I was able to see that certain characters from the original were in it. I have a feeling that some people who were involved in the games may have had a hand in this. The main character was somewhat accurate to who she was supposed to be, which is more than I can say when it comes to most movie adaptations of video games. Some of the fight choreography was good, as well as some of the makeup done for the zombies, which in some ways reminded me of those Dead Rising movies that I have seen (Including "Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun"). Even some of the editing gave it a more over-the-top feel, especially when some bits were sped up. However, as for the negatives, the movie tried to take itself seriously. Granted, the games take themselves a little more seriously despite the fanservice for some characters. But in some ways, especially when you have a samurai girl dressed in a bikini as one of your main characters, it kind of made me wonder why they made this a little more serious than it needed to be. It didn't need to go in the realm of being goofy for the sake of it, but it tried to pass itself as dark and serious. It could have been a little more like the first Dead Rising film (Which is weird saying that because this movie came out years before the first Dead Rising film did). I also felt bored for the most part, at least until the end. I also read that there was a sequel. In some ways I kind of want to see it, but I may have to find a way to do so, especially in English (or in subtitles).

#80 - Kong: Skull Island
*HBOMax
Better than I remember. I love that it's just about two hours because the 2005 version seemed too bloated. The CGI mostly looks good and I actually liked some of the human characters, probably thanks to the work of Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, and John C. Reilly. The best of the MonsterVerse stuff. [****]

69. The Haunting of Rebecca Verlaine/Garden of Love/Born Undead/makes some of the other stuff I watch look like Shakespeare* *DVD* This past weekend I watched the Asylums AVH: Alien verses Hunter, Sharknado 2 and American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore (the latter of which I actually loved) and yet this manages to take the trophy for worst of the worst, and by a landslide. The intro scene was pretty cool and this did have some really good gory scenes but the writing, dear God this could’ve been written by an 15-year-old in less time than it took to watch it. The sound editing and acting was equally as bad. It ended up I just laughed my ass off as I watched it. Part Hellraiser meets those crazy Kiwi gore movies. And thank the Goddess it had such an over the top gory sequence around 45 minutes in. That honestly earned it a couple extra notches. So bad it has to be seen.

#81 - Blade II
*Blu-Ray
Maybe I'm a sucker for the cheese but I really enjoyed this movie. Though the CGI looks incredibly poor and dated, there's still a lot of good action and some fun characters. I really liked the concept of Blade having to work with vampires. [****]

70. Uninvited (1993)* *dvd* Just a slow...boring...lower-than-low budget...thriller. That isn’t thrilling. Nothing happens aside from some moral struggles. Even Jack Elam (in his final role) couldn’t be bothered to be in the movie for more than three minutes. This brings a close to this abysmal collection of movies I think I bought in November and it took me this long to work my way through it. It’s called “Blood Bath” but it’s just all bad, d-horror movies. The one I watched the other night called the Haunting of Rebbeca Verlaine was good for some over-the-top gore. And any of the ones with Fiona Horsey at least had her getting naked A LOT. But avoid this at all costs. Even if it’s $2 you’re getting ripped off. The movies included: (Penetration) Angst A Brush With Death The Chambermaid Death on Demand Demonic Hallowed Harvest of Fear The Haunting of Rebecca Verlaine Red Riding Hood Shadows of the Dead The Twisted Sisters Uninvited

#82 - The Fate of the Furious
*Blu-Ray
I liked this much more the second time around. Some of the cast additions weren't great but I enjoyed others and the continued banter between everyone remains a high point. It continues to pump up high octane action though it is below Furious 7 in that section. The angle involving Dom was a smart way to make it a real challenge for the heroes. [****]

71. Ichi the Killer* *DVD* This really wasn’t what I expected. I figured it was a brutal underground movie like the Guinea Pig series. But it was really just a Japanese gang/vigilante movie, just with the over-the-top violence that only Japanese cinema can do. I think it’s reputation is built off it being an earlier example of the gonzo Japanese movies. Pretty much everything I’ve watched in the last six or seven months (outside of the Guinea Pigs) was newer and pretty much on the same level: So while it wasn’t the violence I expected it was still a really cool ride. The cinematography was really cool and I loved the soundtrack. The comedy worked about as well as it usually does with these movies (which is “not well”) but it added to how f***ing crazy the whole thing was. And for anyone who hasn’t seen it the guy immortalized by all the covers and promotional material isn’t “Ichi”.

58. The Hunt (2020) - Watched this on Blu Ray. Fun fact: Today was the exact date one year ago that I not only saw it theaters, but it was also before everything went into full lockdown. Yes, it was starting up a few days prior, but for the first couple of days that week, one theater in my area was still open and had it go general admission. I had to make a point to see it in theaters, especially since I wanted to see it on its original release date until the stupid controversy happened. Not sure if it will be a St. Patrick's Day tradition, though.
Okay, in last year's review, I stated that I liked the movie and gave my take on it. Now that I saw it a second time, the movie holds up, but it seems that this is one of those movies that starts to make more sense in repeated viewings. Sure, one could see some stuff even when watching it the first time, but sometimes repeated viewings will bring some things to light. As for anything else, the dark humor worked and the climactic fight scene was fun to watch.
