#167 - Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
*Vudu
The series was pretty bad and this was a lame way to wrap things up. The story is nonsensical, the action lacks, and there's no fun to be had. Plus, it's poorly shot and features way too many unneeded camera cuts. [*½]

56. Raya and the Last Dragon
A fun little Disney movie about a girl who needs to find the last dragon who can help save the world. It is silly and sweet and everything you expect from a Disney movie.

100. Swamp Zombies 2 - Watched this on Tubi. I was tempted to watch this thanks to Hack the Movies, especially in some of their videos that made mentions of it, including their review on Army of the Dead. With Newt Wallen mentioning that he wrote the film (and was also in it), as well as the ever-so-lovely Crystal Quin being in the movie, too, I basically went ahead and watched it. All I could say is that this movie is terrible. Newt Wallen even had said so himself and had mentioned that a lot of the editing was bad. Not going to argue with that, but even the terrible editing and direction made me laugh hard in various scenes. Some of the editing with the sound got me laughing and also all "What the hell?" at some points. I will give some credit in some areas as some fight scenes weren't so bad. I could tell that they cast some legit martial artists for some scenes. However, the acting was pretty bad and I am certain it's because a lot of the people who were cast weren't exactly top-notch actors. It's a very low-budget movie, indeed, maybe even C or D-grade, perhaps even lower. But it's so bad that it's just hilarious. I must find a way to watch the first film. adamclark52 Have you seen these movies before? They might be something you may be interested in.

67. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)68. Kingpin (1996) 69. Mars Attacks! (1996)While this is basically a comedic re-telling of Independence Day (which came out a couple months earlier), it honestly reminds me more of Independence Day: Resurgence - too many characters, too many sub-plots, not nearly enough development on any of them for you to care. Christina Applegate was in this but I honestly for the life of me could not tell you who she played. They really should've just focused the movie on Jim Brown's character, easily the most interesting character in the movie, and made the rest background noise. It had some funny parts and some not-so-funny parts, but nothing really added up to a coherent whole. By the way, does anybody know who played Cindy, the Cleopatra waitress that was in Jim Brown's group? I need to know for a... school project. Yeah, school project.

Christina Applegate played Jack Black's character's girlfriend. When Jack Black was being shipped off, she stood there with the rest of Black's character's family and wore a bikini top for some reason. She also hooked up with some guy later on in the film. Also, the woman who played Cindy is named Janice Rivera. She has an Instagram account and still looks pretty good now.

agent817144. Swamp Zombies 2* *Tubi* This was really terrible. But the bad kind of terrible. No redeeming qualities not even entertaining terrible. The writing and editing was bad enough but what really killed me was how bad an actor the lead guy Len Kabasinski was. I’ve never heard someone deliver their lines with less life. I could have sworn he was one of the zombies too. The rest of the cast wasn’t much better. The violence was okay and their were a lot of boobs (some hot zombies!) but this is the kind of shit that makes Asylum movies look like Shakespeare.

I mean yes, I did end up laughing at some of the terrible acting and editing. I will note that the writer replied to a YouTube comment I did on the Hack the Movies review of Army of the Dead that his original screenplay was supposed to be that of Gremlins 2 meets Robocop. That same guy was in this movie and even admitted that the movie is terrible. With me, it was more like I can laugh at a lot of the badness but even for a short film, it kind of dragged a bit.

I have high expectations for my low bar The gore was good and that’s important. Later on in the movie there was a lady with black hair (she came in having a knife fight with the lead guy) and the whacked out look on her face in a lot of shots was funny. That lead actor just killed me. I liked the guy who played the warden at the beginning though. He was good.

I had more fun with this than expected. The two shorter tales were both pretty charming and it made for an easy watch that I certainly preferred to the collection of shorts put out before it. [***]

There were parts of this that worked like the acting and the subject matter but it all came together in a movie that dragged and was kind of boring. [**½]

145. Escape from Hellhole* *DVD* I have no idea what possessed me to seek this movie out. I’m not too interested in Women In Prison movies. I think Ultimo Gallos lured me in with the promise of it being a women in prison movie with all Asian girls. It was pretty crummy on all fronts. Comically terrible really. The acting is probably some of the worst I’ve seen. The dubbing doesn’t help. I’m tired.

#170 - The Runaways
*Netflix
This reminded me a lot of The Dirt in that it was a fun, rocky movie with a tone that perfectly fits who the story was about. Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett was pretty great, upping the quality of the movie almost all on her own. [***]

146. The Asphyx* *DVD* I saw parts of this movie on Saturday afternoon television probably 25 years ago and the floating image of the Asphyx has always stuck with me. I decided to revisit it now. I was expecting to be let down when I finally saw it in its entirety but it was surprisingly enjoyable. Not much happens. It’s not gory or particularly violent. It’s kinda scary though; only for the image of the Asphyx and the shrill screaming noise they make. It’s a pretty cool story too about a late 1800’s scientist attempting to learn the secret to immortality via trapping a persons personal grim reaper the moment before death. It had a really cool 1940’s or ‘50’s movie vibe with the quality of movies made 20 years later, although the special effects are pretty cheap. A good one that I’m glad I never forgot and was able to see again.

147. Verses* *Bluray* This movie is a little tamer than my usual high-brow Japanese fare but still pretty insane. Being a Japanese action movie it plays out like a video game with some crazy fight scenes. And if you look at that cover it’s not hard to figure out which game it inspired (sic. Devil May Cry). The Resident Evil movies owes a lot to this movies style as well but this is much more well done. As is the norm the gore is over-the-top to the point of it almost being comical. But they stuck with practical effects and avoided the usual terrible CGI. Add in a healthy dose of comedy and the aforementioned fight scenes and you have an entertaining movie. If there’s any problems it’s the runtime. I watched the re-edited “Ultimate” edition and 2 hours and 10 minutes is almost too much of anything for me.

I've seen this many times and it still holds up. Everything involving the monster is great but that love story at the center is groan-inducing. [****]

I remember watching it for the first time in theaters and the audience was audibly upset when Beth was found alive with the rod in her shoulder, when they survived the helicopter crash, and when they said "I love you" as bombs went off at the end.

57. Concrete Cowboy
A troubled teen is sent to live with his father who runs a stable in Philadelphia. Not a fancy stable, but a dirty grimy ghetto stable where they all scratch to make ends meet. The boy learns a lesson about life while his childhood friend spirals into a life of crime. Based loosely on a group of real life horse owners in Philadelphia. A little slow paced but it is more about the characters than the action. If the acting seems a little amateurish it is because they cast some of the actual people to play themselves.
