105. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) 106. Free Guy (2021)So today I learned that cats do not have opposable thumbs. Who knew? I've been going back and forth all week about whether or not I wanted to see this this weekend. In the end curiosity and the lack of a streaming alternative got the better of me. I'd say the theater was about a third full for this, which is slightly more then the quarter full the same theater was for Black Widow, but that's probably just the difference between a Saturday night 9PM showing and a Sunday morning 11AM showing. Just a really fun movie. Ryan Reynolds was great as always, and I really liked Jodie Comer. Was that British accent real? Because I'm not gonna lie, it was working for me. I didn't stay through the credits like I normally would, I hope there was no post-credit scene.

103. The Cloverfield Paradox
Take one vaguely explained problem with no evidence to support it, add a vague ‘solution’ that makes no sense and some wacky pseudoscience, kill off most of your characters, and tack on an ending that doesn’t make a lot of sense. What keeps this from being absolute crap is the cast. They all gave 110% to turn a hokey and confusing script into something worth watching. And a bonus shoutout to Chris O’Dowd’s arm for saving the day.

105. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) 106. Free Guy (2021) 107. Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997)Probably my last watch on HBO Max before my subscription lapses. Technically I have it until Monday, but I'm gonna be busy most of tomorrow with work stuff so I don't think I'll have a chance to check anything else out. First time watching this, it pretty much came out long after any interest I had in the original franchise passed. Kinda boring over-all actually. The story just feels like a garden variety extra-long Power Rangers episode. Kimberly and Jason (as well as Bulk and Skull) felt pretty pointless to the plot, although everything Amy Jo Johnson did was easily the most entertaining stuff in the movie. Just felt like such a waste to bring back Kimberly and then not really do anything important with her. Divatox (which, for some reason, my spell-checker isn't flagging) was hot but annoying and difficult to take seriously as a threat. The new Megazord in this was honestly pretty ugly, with a really boxy and awkward design. I appreciate they didn't try to experiment with bad early CGI like the previous movie, but at the same time their traditional use of props, costumes and other practical effects felt underwhelming for a theatrical release. And who came up with the idea to take a car-themed series and put them in a movie centered around traveling across the ocean to a hidden island? The whole thing just felt like a pointless attempt for Power Rangers to hold onto a glory days that they didn't want to accept were passing them by.

Death Ship (1980) - atmospheric, but it's the sort of film that never reaches it's full potential which features Nazi ghosts! There is good moments here, but it feels like it squanders it's cast which includes George Kennedy and Richard Crenna. Not bad overall so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
The Little Rascals (1994) - let's be honest mostly badly acted by the kids, which at the same time I'm going to cut them some slack because they are kids. It's still a film with a lot of charm, even though Darla, the girl who causes the riff just isn't very nice (she grew up and changed her name to Ramona Flowers), though the young actress is adorable in the outtakes over the end credits. Some cameos are better than others. Likable enough to do the old shorts justice.

I had a really good time with this one. It has some fun characters, decent adventure stuff, and was memorable without needing much great music as most of these did at the time. [***½]

104. The Week Of
Adam Sandler and Chris Rock star in a movie about two families preparing for their children’s’ marriage. Every character is unlikeable or annoying, the plot twists get more and more absurd, and the whole thing is painfully unfunny. Just don’t bother with it.

105. Piranha
Now there’s the crap we know and love. Ridiculous concept. Terrible acting. Awful special effects. Everything about it is wrong and yet it is so campy and absurd and over-the-top that it becomes loads of fun.

National Lampoons Xmas Vacation 2 Eddies Island Adventure-DVD-3 outta 10
I knew this was going to be bad. But didn't suspect how just flat out mind numbingly bad it would be.
Eddie and his wife and son Third are living with Audrey Griswold,I think. Eddie gets fired from work right before Xmas. But gets bit on the ass by a chimp so to keep him from suing the company sends Eddie and his family on a Pacific vacation.
Ed Asner shows up as Uncle someone, spends most of the movie trying to bang women that was 1/3rd his age. And causes the boat they had to crash on an island.
This is slightly worse that CHristmas Story 2 and Jack Frost 2.

#248 - Everybody Wants Some!!
*TNT
The cast of this works well together and they have good chemistry. It makes even the most mundane activities enjoyable. I was hoping for some baseball in this movie about a baseball team but there's literally only one scene of it and it's just a practice, which is hugely disappointing. [***]

Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948) / His Girl Friday (1940) / The Bishop's Wife (1947) - didn't plan to but ended up doing a Cary Grant triple bill, all of these are classics, was a first time viewing for Blandings and Bishop's and enjoyed both greatly as well as nice to revisit His Girl Friday after 20+ years, maybe I might watch a couple more of his or concentrate on a different actor or director.

#249 - Fracture
*Blu-Ray
There’s something holding this back from being stellar. That doesn’t mean it’s not great. Gosling and Hopkins are powerful together, giving us enthralling scenes together from the moment their character meet. It’s an engaging thriller and one of the more underrated films in recent memory. [****]

Repeated Viewing - Blue Crush 2
Watched this on Blu Ray.
I had an itch to watch this lately for some reason. I gave my take on it back in February. I really think that despite some technical issues, like some scenes were clearly shot in green screen and that it was low in budget (it was a straight-to-video film), I do enjoy this film. Yes, it's not related to the first Blue Crush film, and it may seem to be a typical coming-of-age film, but I still like this film. I even watched all of the deleted scenes and while the director was right about how they had no place in the final product, some of them were entertaining and a few could have been added in. I might watch it with the commentary soon. I own the Blu Ray, so I'll see when I might do it.
I am also in the mood to watch the first Blue Crush soon.

#250 - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
*4K Blu-Ray
It’s the best Harry Potter film. I raved about it already, yet I still left a bunch out. It’s faithful enough to the book to satisfy those fans, while also delivering a great movie if you’re unfamiliar with the series. The grown up performances by the leads, the fantastic special effects, and the scenes involving the Triwizard Tournament and Voldemort were all tremendous. Stellar. [****½]

The illness that this movie is about is terrifying and there are a few gripping scenes involving it but the film as a whole falls flat and is kind of dull. [**]

Monkey Business (1952) - I ended up watching 4 Cary Grant films in a row and this was super enjoyable, really fun fourth wall breaking pre credits sequence ("Not now Cary") as well as splendid supporting cast including Ginger Rogers and Marilyn Monroe.
Obvious Child (2014) - full disclosure, even though she is the woooooooooooooooooooorsssssssttt I absolutely adore Jenny Slate, so there is a chance objectivity can go out of the window when it comes to her. I really liked this and Jenny gave such a great lead performance (shocker I'd say that) in a sweet, humouress, open film about abortion.
Immortal Combat (aka Resort To Kill) (1994) - dammit to hell that Sonny Chiba passed away. I wanted to watch something in tribute to him that I hadn't seen before and this buddy movie with Roddy Piper stood out to me and I have to say Chiba and Piper was the duo I didn't think I needed. The film as some nice action, often intentionally funny and decent chemistry but it's pretty much all over the place. Besides Piper, there is a few more wrestling connections here - Tiny Lister as a fun little role and Art Barr also appears (apparently Chris Jericho is an extra as well but I didn't notice him, apparently he was visiting Barr on set)

#252 - CODA
*AppleTV+
Admittedly, this movie doesn't do a ton new with its premise but it nails every aspect so well. The acting is tremendous with Troy Kotsur standing out, the representation of the deaf community is well done, and the scenes hit you emotionally. It's such a well-made movie that sticks with you, though it is a notch or so below Sound of Metal. [****½]

145. Snakes on a Plane - Watched this on DVD. I was in the mood to watch something else tonight, but because the disc I got in the mail was acting up (I saw why, too; I will take it to a store to get it fixed soon), I decided to watch this instead. After all, I dug this up somewhere along with Formula 51 (aka The 51st State; I will watch that one soon).
I remember there were memes of this film, even dating back to the late-2000s when it aired on FX with its hilarious TV edits about "Monkey-fighting snakes on a Monday-through-Friday plane." Not to mention how technology has come a long way since the mid-2000s with one character having a smartphone that was barely becoming a thing during those days (2005-2006). The film is entertaining in a B-movie sort of way. It doesn't take itself that seriously. Hell, I had read that this movie was supposed to be titled something else and that the title it went with was initially a placeholder. But I'm glad that it ended up being the way it was, especially with hammy acting from Samuel L. Jackson and mid-2000s visual effects of snakes that look dated by today's standards. Still, it's an entertaining film that you could sit back and laugh at (or with).
