I just sat down and watched this movie with my 21 year old daughter. We got to talking, say this movie were made today, shot for shot, line for line. The exact same movie. What cartoon characters do you think would be included and what characters would be taken out?

What cartoon characters do you think would be included and what characters would be taken out? For some reason I picture the Bugs and Mickey scene being Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin I could see that but the point of the scene was to have two companies biggest characters on screen at the same time. I was thinking Bugs would be Spongebob but who would Mickey be?

New villain scheme: An interconnected network, where people can send pictures of their kids to grandma, or shop for beans from the comfort of their own home, with pictures of cats as far as the eye can see. My god, it would be beautiful.

Most of those characters were included because they existed when the film was set. That’s one of the main reasons you don’t see any Hanna Barbera cartoons.
But a free for all involving multiple companies from all of cartoon history hypothetically... No way is this film made to today with out Scooby Doo helping solve the case. He’s a legendary character but also one that is some how still culturally relevant.
I would also love them to include some bizarre cgi land I just want to see Shrek hanging out with Buzz and Woody

Modern day Toontown would be insane. Assuming that Disney didn't become its own nation because of all the movies they have now, plus stuff they acquired...you have them, the HB characters (who now have to live with the WB characters, both classic and Spielberg), the various other studios here and there. And that's not even getting into the anime district that has popped up. You could have a scene of Goku, Shrek, Scooby, Mickey and Bugs all together.
Also, if they redid it, even if just a cameo, hopefully they could get the rights to Popeye to be there. Just a personal thing that seemed weird that, despite the time period of the movie fitting for him, he wasn't there.

I don’t know but I just want to say I consider it to be a masterpiece film. I rank it up there among my favorites like Casablanca, Jaws, and Star Wars.
Just phenomenal all the way around. The seamless integration of the animated characters is easy to take for granted, but it took so many talented people to make that happen not the least of whom was Bob Hoskins putting in a great performance.

It's a masterpiece.
It's weird how compatible this movie is with LA Confidential.

I agree completely which is why I wanted to show my kid. We watched a how it was made special afterwards just so she could fully appreciate the work that went into it.

If I were to do a modern one, without any rights restrictions, I’d basically get Animal Logic to reconstruct Downtown from the CN bumpers of the early 00s and add Disney and Nickelodeon places to it and have that be the new ToonTown.
Even if you just have bit cameos, the framework of that would make for some really fun moments.

After Doom dies and the machine goes breaking thru the building the train drives by like normal then you see Hank, Dale, Bill and Boomhauer drinking a beer. "Yup"
I'd replace the shoe that got dipped with Lucky.

Instead of Eddie getting in a crazy elevator with Droopy as the operator, he gets in a teleportation machine with Rick as the operator. “You’re stop sir. Have a good day sir, and p*** off sir.”

The dueling piano scene would feature Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin (or maybe Bart and Cartman).

If it was made today, Doom should reveal himself to be that no good Hans from the Southern Isles.

It came out 2 days before my 10th birthday, and I saw it in the theater that weekend. It's been one of my favorites every since.

Most of those characters were included because they existed when the film was set. That’s one of the main reasons you don’t see any Hanna Barbera cartoons. This is the major thing everyone forgets about Roger Rabbit. The movie was a love letter to the Golden Age of animation. And only included characters that existed during that time. Roger Rabbit is also 50% owned by Amblin Entertainment, meaning that Steven Spielberg would have to sign off on any use of the characters. Which is why nothing's been done with them in so long Spielberg might still be salty over the similarities between Roger Rabbit and Bonkers. A remake would have to take place during a high point in animation. And only use characters from that era. Disney doesn't play well with others anymore. Especially with Warner Bros starting their own streaming service, and Universal having their own amusement park chain. So, sorry. Mickey and Bugs aren't going to hang out with Shrek and the Minions. Disney would likely only use characters they own. Which now expands to Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, The Muppets, 20th Century Fox, and Blue Sky. The closest we'll ever get is Ralph Breaks the Internet. Stormtroopers, Groot, Eeyore, the Princesses, and a building shaped like Kermit the Frog.

And of course, talking about Roger Rabbit, we do have to mention the awakening that some people had. Despite the over exaggerated features, I'm sure that there's at least one person here that she had an effect on during the puberty years.
