It took some time for Demolition to pick a face paint design

It seems like every Demolition match I've seen from 1987 has different paint designs for Ax and Smash. Some



better than others:

I just sold one of the earlier WWF 1988 magazines on ebay but inside had a picture of Ax was a vey different facepaint. It almost looks like what he does at autograph convention where it covers each side of the face but has a gap between from the top to bottom of his face. His paint was a dark pink and I think black trim. Also, that wasn't even early on in their role, it was a match in late 1987 where they did a battle royal and I think also in a tag match against someone he had the paint. I have always been fascinated by Demolitions paint. I know their Hasbro figure looks were what stuck but the earlier versions were pretty cool too since they kept trying different things.

This is just an aside, but it is f***ing hilarious to have this G-rated 80s kids wrestling, but with these two S&M gay leather-daddies walking around.

I wonder who did their facepaint especially in the first photo where Barry just debuted? It is really crudely done compared even to the second and third photos which were just months apart. WWF put a lot of effort into the costumes but the paint was way off. I know both guys do their own paint when they do autograph shows, I was in the bathroom one time when they were putting on the paint. But they do a pretty good job so I'm wondering why the earlier jobs were so bad. Also, the days of Moondog Rex as Smash were pretty funny as well with the pizza face paint and fur boots. WWF seemed like they really wanted this team to be something but didn't quite know what would click.

Bad paint aside, I knew that Demolition were gonna slap around Hawk and Animal once they debuted in WWF, and humble them old country way.

Pizza face paint and fur boots sounds like a CAW that pops up when you click 'random'.

But yes, that's the one I'd point to. Like he was told 10 minutes before, "Get your face paint on, we're debuting that tag idea of yours!" And the tube blew up.
