Because the Rumble match itself is such a big draw, it tends to overshadow the title matches on the show. So we often get odd challengers for the world title match such as Razor Ramon in 1993, Scott Steiner in 2003, Hardcore Holly in 2004, Mark Henry in 2006, Umaga in 2007 and Jeff Hardy in 2008.
So which world title matches deserve more attention from the previous Rumble shows?

The aforementioned Umaga match was excellent. I'd also say Cactus vs HHH and Benoit vs Angle immediately come to mind.

The aforementioned Umaga match was excellent. I'd also say Cactus vs HHH and Benoit vs Angle immediately come to mind. I still think that was Jamal/Umaga's best match.

Tbh Brock/Holly did exactly what I want in a title match at the Rumble. Used someone who wouldn't be missed in the Rumble itself and only went 6 mins so we can focus more time on having a great Rumble match!
AJ/Cena and Taker/Rey iirc to answer the point...

I'll add Seth vs Brock vs Cena as well. That match was incredible.

Undertaker vs Rey Mysterio
An odd pairing because I don't think they met very often in the ring. But this one was a really good Heavyweight title match.
Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit from the Rumble 2003 was one of my favourite matches of all time and made up for the awful Steiner vs Triple H match on the same show but I just can't watch it anymore.

1. Benoit vs Angle, Rumble 2003. I've made my peace with Benoit and can appreciate the talent, so I can still watch it and even enjoy the mammoth ovation he got afterward.
2. HHH vs Cactus Jack from 2000
3. Rock vs Mankind "I quit" match from 1999...although it is rather unsettling if you've watched Beyond The Mat at some point in your lifetime.
4. HHH vs HBK Last Man Standing Match 2004
5. Cena vs Umaga 2007

Sid vs HBK at the Rumble 1997- Hometown-crowd in the Alamodome was hot. Sid´s best matches were those two title-matches with HBK IMO.

1) Angle vs Benoit is the best match I've ever seen. I haven't watched it in over a decade now though.
2)Foley vs HHH. Perfect street fight and a star making match for HHH.
3) 1992 Royal Rumble
4) Cena vs Umaga
5) Brock vs Rollins vs Cena- Can't remember the year
6) Diesel vs Bret- 95. The ending sucked but I love this match.
7) Rock vs Foley
8. Edge vs Rey/Taker vs Rey. Both matches merged into one in my head.
9. Rock vs Y2J- I actually liked this.
10. Cena vs AJ. Was okay, but really the typical Cena bullshit finisher spamfest.

So which world title matches deserve more attention from the previous Rumble shows? How were Razor, Umaga or Jeff Hardy in any way odd challengers? They had been built for months at that point to be the top contender and were all very over and believable possible winners.

Yokozuna vs. Undertaker Casket Match in 1994 is still one of the most amazing spectacles in wrestling I've ever seen. It blew my mind at the time! I know it's not to a lot of people's tastes, but it will never not be awesome to me!
