And it took Vince to get his finger out his ass and listen to them for that to finally change Turns out if you listen to African Americans you get positive and very successful African American Stars To be fair to Vince it does seem he learned from the New Day when it comes to that. I always come back to the rumours from like, 2013-2015 on Vince and New Day, back when it was rumoured he was earmarking Big E for a singles megapush but HHHH wanted Roman and eventually talked Vince round. We'll never know how true it was, but I'd like to think it's true, if only because it puts Vince more in a "out of touch" mindset than a discriminatory one. Going to give a little credit to Ron Simmons and WCW during his run as the first black heavyweight champion, when he was giving motivational speeches to kids and stuff as well. That was probably the first time that a black guy had been portrayed like that as a complete hero to the youth. Kind of strangely it seems like the 80s and 90s was the worst time for them to get those bad gimmicks(rapper, thug, pure athlete, militant, etc.) as way back in the territory days you had guys like Bobo Brazil, Sailor Art Thomas, and Ernie Ladd all drawing good gates despite segregation in a lot of arenas and so forth. Anyways, the WWE is always on some other bullshit, but at least they’re finally understanding the importance of diversity and inclusiveness throughout the roster and cards. I'm neither black nor American and Ron Simmons' WCW title win is to this day one of my favourite world title wins, I can only imagine how it was for black Americans at the time. Everything about his underdog upset story was booked perfectly and he should have remained a WCW main eventer for another 3 years off the back of that. Similar vein, Mark Henry's World title win is another top level moment. It says a lot that for as disproportionately few World Title wins black wrestlers have had, how they've nearly all been such memorable moments and reigns entirely regardless of the race of the wrestler in question- they're just top level performers. Should have happened more often.

Now that the title match if official between Bianca and Banks Someone correct me if I’m wrong but it is the first world title match between two African Americans Huge apologies if I missed anyone but as near as I can tell, this is the list of wrestlers of African-American heritage who have received title shots/defenses at Mania. Banks/Bianca will be the first title match of any rank between two African-Americans at Wrestlemania. Junkyard Dog (Mania I, IC) Butch Reed (Mania IV Tournament, World) Men on a Mission (Mania X, Tag. Mabel/Viscera was also a contender at 16, Hardcore) The Rock (Mania 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 29, IC and World) D'Lo Brown (Mania 15, Tag) Farooq (Mania 16, 18 and 20, Hardcore and Tag) D-Von Dudley (Mania 16, 17, 18, 20, Tag) Maven (Mania 18, Hardcore) Jazz (Mania 18, 19 Women's) Booker T (19, 20 WHC and Tag) Shelton Benjamin (20, Tag) MVP (23, US) R-Truth (26, 31,Unified Tag and IC) Big E (29, 31, 34 Tag) Alicia Fox (30, Diva's) Cameron (30, Diva's) Naomi (30, 33, 36 Diva's and Women's) Kofi Kingston (31, 34, 35, 36 Tag and World) Sasha Banks (32, 33, 35, 36 Women's and Women's Tag) Cedric Alexander (34, Cruiserweight) Bobby Lashley (35, IC. Lashley was also the ECW Champion at Mania 23 but wrestled in a non-title bout) The Street Profits (36, Tag)

The best thing about this is none of them feel politically motivated. WWE didn't make them champions as an excuse to brag about the company's diversity or or to pat themselves on the back for their devotion to Black History Month. Every one of these champions became champions as part of a logical story and career progression, and every one of them deserved it.

An amazing night for Black Excellence. Hell even New Day lost their titles to a black man. Tonight we got Big E and Apollo so it doesn't matter who wins there as the winner will be black.
We've got so many black champions in the company. I love it. It's the norm now. We started night 1 with one and ended with one.
