And yes, all this comes from Disney's inability to get the rights to Wicked. Universal has been sitting on the Wicked rights for over a decade. We will never know what could have been if they went with Wicked for the Christmas 2019 slot, instead of Cats. Meanwhile, Disney has made several Wicked rip-offs. Oz, the Great and Powerful Frozen Maleficent And now Cruella You could add the remakes of Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland to the list. As both had moments you were supposed to feel sympathy for the Stepmother and the Queen of Hearts. I fully expect the Little Mermaid remake to have Ursula be the rightful Queen of the sea, and that Triton took that from her. So, she uses Triton's daughter, Ariel, to get her throne back. Nah, it's Melissa McCarthy. They'll somehow give her nothing deeper than being a loud buffoon

Are they going to extend this to Pixar films? Wouldnt mind seeing prequels involving Sid and Randall.

Never mind that.
Georgette from Oliver and Company gets her own film. Now.
Bette Midler is still in good voice, just saying.

Anyone else watched this yet? I saw it last night, it's actually a pretty fun film. The acting is solid, a great soundtrack, looks amazing, cool costumes, a very entertaining villain and it's a fun revenge story. It falls apart a bit in the final third though. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}The scenes of the feud between Cruella and the Baroness are so good, climaxing in a really cool fashion show scene with Cruella. But, it falls apart after there when Baroness tries to murder Cruella.
The climatic revenge scene just isn't as good or iconic as the big fashion show scene---although Cruella tricking all the attendees into dressing like her was pretty cool.
Also, they completely wussed out on having Cruella murder the Baronesses dogs and turn them into a coat. That was needed to cement her as a villain---have Cruella reveal she's turned the Baronesses dogs into a coat. Instead, they wussed out on that side and had her keep the dalmations instead.
In fact, wussing out on turning Cruella--a villain who in 101 wants to turn dogs into coats---into a villain who turns dogs into coats actually ruins the movie.
It's worth a watch though, the middle of the film with Cruella one-upping the Baroness is really entertaining. Also Emma Stone nails it. She is fantastic in this.

Never mind that. Georgette from Oliver and Company gets her own film. Now. Bette Midler is still in good voice, just saying. Nah they'll give us a movie about how Sykes was just a poor small business owner whose parents were killed by an evil Jewish man and his attack dogs. Also the little girl will be evil and only wants Oliver to make him into a coat or something.

First Gaston is awesome. He doesn't need a back story to get us to find him charasmatic. But also...I trust Kitsis and Horowitz more than whoever they've had writing these. At least OUAT in its prime did the grey thing better.

There's nothing two dimensional or deep about Gaston, he's a brute who believes he's entitled to anything he sets his eyes on.

There's nothing two dimensional or deep about Gaston, he's a brute who believes he's entitled to anything he sets his eyes on. Wrong. He was treated badly as a child. His father abandoned him. His mother was killed by a beast like creature and he witnessed this and it traumatised him. He saw horrors in the war. He fell in love with a young woman who died in those haunted woods, but it turns out she became the enchantress who cursed the Beast or something....uh....yeah.

There's nothing two dimensional or deep about Gaston, he's a brute who believes he's entitled to anything he sets his eyes on. And Maleficent was just pure evil. Look what they tried with HER...
