This surprised me. Him on commentary will be interesting. It will be boring. He doesn't have the personality or gift of gab to be on commentary. I still don't see how Taz has made a career out of it. The f***? Big Show's had great WWE Commentary in the seldom times he's been allowed to do it. I'm not the only person to think that either. And Taz has had some of the best AEW Commentary on DARK, dude's been hilarious and he and Excalibur are perfect together.

When I heard the news I was like... Really? I thought AEW was better than just scooping up ex WWE guys for clout? I don't know how much Paul is being paid, but it sounds like it'd be a steep price for a star of his fame and caliber. See to me a "Clout signing" would be scooping up somebody 100% JUST because they were in WWE, and they serve no other purpose than being there just because they're a name. We're talking like Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair to TNA in 2009. Big Show on the other hand, can still work, is in good shape and is known to work well with younger talents. All of that in addition to be a big name. In my mind this is a pretty good investment for them.

I'm gonna be thrilled when I stop seeing comments like this any time AEW picks up a veteran. Paul Wight is as much a former WCW Talent as he is a WWE Talent. It's not wrestling fault WWE was basically the only game in town for 20 f***ing years. These moves aren't for clout, theyre for a change of scenery for these guys to do things that they simply werent gonna do in WWE. Big Show wasn't gonna do commentary, or anything else in WWE anymore, so he left to do something different, and here we have fans saying "Oh jeez an Ex WWE guy for clout? Great move AEW" Lol what? Dude was in WCW for less than 4 years....dude was with the WWE for over 20 years. So yes, this is another “AEW signing another former WWE guy” This stigma needs to die, and die yesterday.

This is a 'Meh' signing for me. Not terrible, but not great either.
I've been bored with Big Show for many years now. Hopefully he can me more interesting now with a change of scenery.

Sorry, what I meant was the guy who said that Paul Wight is more a WCW guy than a WWE guy is crazy. Dude was in WWE for more than 20 years, and was in WCw less than 4. Come on bro, I know it’s against some forbidden law in tbis thread to post anything negative about AEW but this is 100% them just signing another WWE guy to say “hey look who we have”

I have to totally disagree with the idea that this is a "look who we have" signing. It's not like Paul Wight is totally useless at this point. He's in good shape and with the right opponent can still put on great matches. Even if it's just in a coaching role backstage there's a lot he can contribute beyond name value.

It would've been a nice surprise if they had kept it a secret for another week or so and had him do a run in at Revolution Honestly, my first thought was that they were going for that very reaction as secretly something of a red herring to blindside us with an absolutely majorly unexpected signing surprise run in at Revolution.

AEW signed Lee Johnson, Top Flight, Acclaimed, Ricky Starks, Eddie Kingston, Will Hobbs, Lance Archer and Brian Cage in the last year. While Garrison/Pillman probably have some type contract and Bear Country as well. So they are signing young or new talent and trying to develop them. But whenever they sign Sting, Miro, Matt Hardy or now Paul Wight. You see stupid comments like above. When in reality you need to sign veteran name talent as well as new talent. Perfect example of heel Matt Hardy being used to get Private Party more over and building up Adam Page to main event scene. Or Darby feels more important now that he's got Sting by his side etc. If you don't have veterans to bring eyes to the new wrestlers. Then nobody going to be given the chance to get over.

Come on bro, I know it’s against some forbidden law in tbis thread to post anything negative about AEW but this is 100% them just signing another WWE guy to say “hey look who we have” Stop putting words in my mouth first off, I said "He's just as much a former WCW guy", he was there less but he did a lot in his time there, he's a former world champion there, he was a part of some of the biggest moments of that companies history. My point was, yeah he's also a WWE guy, but it wasn't the only note of his career, Big Show's basically returning to the Network where his career began and flourished before going to WWE. You shit on anything AEW remotely does, you call Moxley and Omega "Hasbeens", you hate Cody Rhodes, you say you're gonna miss "the old AEW" because moves like this are "killing the company", and then you cry foul and say "AEW can't be criticized" when people come at you for these absurd takes. I genuinely don't know what you want from the AEW section, but it feels like any time you come on here, you are dangling bait for people to snap at, if this is how you truly feel, I apologize, but several board members have already called you out on this thread alone and you just keep going. I'm not trying to derail things or take shots at your opinions either, I'm just genuinely baffled because it's a reoccuring process.

I think it got out, and they decided to just announce it. Also, I don't think they wanted it to be a "look at this wrestler coming in doing something wrestler". I think there's a reason he's in a suit, and he's the new announcer of their new show. This is about The Giant as one of the veterans, being a backstage guy, and working when it makes sense.

At first, I was like "Why?", then I started to accept the idea a bit. Keep him on commentary for the most part, or maybe give him something of a Billy Gunn-type role, and it should be alright. Just please, no "commentator feuds with wrestler" stuff, it's been pretty well abused and needs a good long break.

You know what? I like Big Show. Always have and always will. Screw the 'Local Man' crap. That comes down to bad booking. I hope he does well on commentary and i hope they use him to the best of his abilities. I think he'll be really good.

Best of luck to him. I like the guy and feel a change of scenery (along with a trimmer self) was best for his future. Spot on. I feel like he's one of those guys that became stale over time by not having a rival company around to jump ship to and reinvent himself rather than doing the same thing over and over again for about 20 years. Show is a legend but I never thought I'd say I'm intrigued to see him wrestle in 2021 and yet here we are. Amazing what a change of scenery can do to pique my interest in a wrestler I would've otherwised changed the channel on. Show vs Shaq in AEW could be huge for them. With ESPN souring on WWE and cutting all coverage of them this is AEW’s opening to a lot of mainstream coverage. Big Show vs Shaq would be all over ESPN and you damn well know they’d give AEW all they want to spite Vince.

Didn't expect that but man, I thought he was done with wrestling. That's pretty funny. It kinda crazy he is younger than Jericho. (Paul turned 49 this year) Something else to think about with this is that Paul is 3 years older than Andre was when he died. Sure different circumstances and the surgery, but something to think about. Add me to the ones that thought he'd be WWE for the rest of his days. All the best to him in AEW though.

I'm kind of dual-minded on it in that I think Big Show is a largely useless signing but at the same time if someone of his star power becomes available then hell yeah, sign 'im.
