He’s still in great shape. Would love to see him vs. Omega headline an event in the near future.

This feels like a really big deal somehow, and I'm not even sure why... Like, bigger than Sting, bigger than Mox... but I reiterate, I don't know why. Probably because everybody expected him to forever stay with WWE. He was there for what over 20 years?

Seriously always thought he was a WWE lifer, but I guess getting strung around by the damned company for years like that would turn just about anyone! I think that’s the crazier about this for me. I genuinely thought he’d be with WWE for life and retire after a couple more cameos. It also feels weird they never tested him as a commentator considering he is really funny in the right situations and has a tonne of experience. It’s not a massive coup but it’s still pretty surreal. If he’s there for that, that’s a pretty nice coup. From the sounds of it Wight just wanted to be involved with something. Already seeing stuff how he pitched ideas to Vince even stuff like getting Osmo, Keith Lee, or the Retribution big guys over and he was either turned down or met with indifference

The Big Show could end up commentating for an Orange Cassidy match. Life is good.

He’s a bigger mainstream star than either of them. He’s also not been in any other promotion (outside of a few indie type shots against Hogan) since 1999, while Moxley was only there for a few years and Sting was known more for his WCW and TNA runs than his short WWE tenure.

Probably because everybody expected him to forever stay with WWE. He was there for what over 20 years? Pretty much, yeah. And you never heard of him having problems with management as much as weight issues and such over the years so it felt like he was going to have some kind of role going forward. Like, I don't even know who else I would have pegged for being in AEW but it wasn't him.

Wow, this is a surprise. I love the idea of him as a commentator (and maybe helping some of the AEW big lads with their ring game), but am less enthused with the idea of him getting in the ring. Excluding punting Marko Stunt into the rafters, obviously.

I love how you can't click on anything from Twitter without seeing a dumb comment in under 10 seconds. Apparently this is comparable to Goldberg squashing people and having two title runs in the last five years. Hyperbole? What's that?

PWInsider.com is told that WWE and Wight were unable to come to terms on a new deal financially and his final contract with the company last month, days after he made an appearance being verbally bullied by Randy Orton on the Raw Legends Night episode on 1/4. One source stated that Wight was very open that night about his unhappiness about the situation. Wight, who did not publicly announce his departure, was moved this week to WWE.com's Alumni section on 2/19.

Didn't expect that but man, I thought he was done with wrestling. That's pretty funny. It kinda crazy he is younger than Jericho. (Paul turned 49 this year) Omg he is 49 and Jericho is 50? I thought they were in their mid-40s for some reason wow. I'm off lol.

Lmao, I saw this on Twitter and thought it was fake. My reaction “Thank goodness I don’t have to worry about him showing up anymore.”
Seems like a great dude. I never want to see him again.

I mean, for as much as people laughed at how that went, it was just a weird spot to use him in when you promoted it as a Legends Night. And even before then, that catatric moment of him with Christian and Michaels taking revenge on Orton just felt like a waste of time too.

But I do remember the world title match the night after Mania, as well as his involvement in the Orton-McIntyre feud later in the year.

Probably because everybody expected him to forever stay with WWE. He was there for what over 20 years? This must be it. His WWE tenure is literally older than some of AEW's wrestlers. Pretty incredible. Well, I for one wish him luck. Seems like a pretty cool guy and it'll be interesting to see what they do with him. Just being him is a big asset to the company, great for public appearances and the like once the world opens back up too.
