I find it interesting that TNT knows what AEW Dark is and they have control over what AEW calls their youtube show that has no ties to TNT It sounded more like Tony consulting with TNT rather than them just outright making the decision. Although I personally wouldn't be surprised if some of AEW's non-Dynamite content ever migrates over to a Warner Media outlet. DARK has a relatively small but loyal audience and TNT has a ton of other properties they're trying to grow.

That is very much not a direction that I expected, but I am pretty down for it.

Yeah, I guess they are not going the young, indie route that I imagined. I'm ok with it, because I love Taz and Excaliber calling the indie people, and just how comfortable they are with everything, joking around because they don't really have to progress a lot. Maybe Elevation becomes a show where they do a lot of angles, and is an extension of Dynamite? Because I really enjoy Dark as it is.

I really wanna see more character development so I'm ok with that. Promos, interviews, segments, let stuff happen and get things moving. You can even set stuff up on Monday for stuff to happen on Tuesday, it all could work out well.
I really wanna see stuff like Valle and Peaks become The Batiri again, whether that's being recruited by Chaos Project or some other way I just wanna see it...

Oh damn, that's...a really good card. Maybe this is just what they're throwing out to get eyes on the show at first, but every one of those matches sounds good. I'm especially excited to see Ashley Vox again, I really hope that she sticks around and maybe gets signed to shore up the recent batch of injuries.

So what did everyone think of Episode 1?
I don't know if it's too early to call when it comes to the length of the show given it was a premiere. For all we know the show will be shorter next week and they just wanted to load it this week with matches to sell it to people. It's also hard to compare it to DARK when the first DARK of this era as of this post still doesn't have an announced card to also see if it's also still gonna be around 90 minutes-2 hours or not.
What I did like about the show is they are obviously trying to sell the characters more even so in the commentary. Even guys like Vary Morales got more character development tonight. A ton of different shoutouts to trainers and where these people came from to make it to AEW. References to storylines ongoing, backstage promos to even reflect them and try and advance them a bit. Stuff like Pretty Picture attacking Marko leading to an announced DARK match between Luchasaurus and Bononi and Omega trying to screw over Matt Sydal and it resulting in a Dynamite Match next week is a good way to show they can show development on this show and progression which has not been done as much on DARK. The Rising Star segment I am also a star of, and I think it helps people connect to someone like Lee Johnson further.
The in ring action was also good and seems to be allowing the enhancement to get much more in along with more competitive matches. Again hard to say if DARK will have more mainstay talent vs mainstay talent and less enhancement matches and that's what Elevation will be used for... but it's definitely looking like Elevation might be there to lighten the load and maybe take over when AEW travels again and DARK goes back to its pre-pandemic format.
Tony and Paul were also a good commentary duo. Much more laid back than Taz and Excalibur, but I don't mind it, Paul shows genuine enthusiasm and he has a good connection with Tony already. For week one, they've done a fine job at it and I hope they improve.
For a first show, I thought it was fun, I'm excited to see how they continue to refine it in the future.
