Here is the History of Fastlane, now updated with tonightâs results.Fastlane was mostly good as the final stop on the Road to WrestleMania. I wasnât paying attention to anything during the Kickoff except for Riddle VS Ali, which was amazing. I also loved what happened afterwards. The opening video was good. Banks & Belair VS Baszler & Jax was decent until the stupid finish. The segment with Shane McMahon & Elias was a waste of time. Big E VS Crews was starting to heat up but I have no idea what happened with the finish. Intentional or not, at least the feud will be continuing. The segment in the back with Riddle & Shinsuke Nakamura was funny. Nakamura VS Seth Rollins was an incredible match. The 24/7 Title Change in the Old Spice commercial was hilarious. As much as I loved McIntyre VS Sheamus, I think that it should have been a #1 Contender's Match, so McIntyre would have earned his Title Match with Lashley at WrestleMania. And there was some blood, but it wasn't planned, which was OK. Wow. I love the new look of Bray Wyatt. I thought the match would have been a No Contest since the ref left the ring after the turnbuckle exploded. But I guess not. Orton VS Bliss was different. Daniel Bryan VS Roman Reigns was unbelievable. The finish was a little wonky, but if it leads to a Triple Threat with Edge at WrestleMania, then it was worth it. Also, I had no problem watching on Peacock besides the people watching it on the WWE Network were slightly ahead of Peacock, so I was spoiled a little bit when I looked at my Twitter feed. But besides that, it was good.
WWE FASTLANE
⢠This is the 1st Fastlane PPV since 2019. Even though there was no Fastlane in 2020, if they wrestled in 2019 & will be wrestling again in 2021, I will count it as back-to-back Fastlane events. This was the 1st Fastlane since 2017 that the WWE Championship was not defended, the 1st PPV of 2021, the 1st PPV since Survivor Series on November 22, 2021 that the WWE Championship was not defended, but the 1st time since Payback on August 30, 2020 that the WWE Champion didnât wrestle on PPV. This was the 2nd PPV in a row in 2021 to not have a Womenâs Championship Match & the 1st Fastlane in History to not have a Womenâs Championship Match, ending a streak of the Womenâs Championship being the only Championship to be defended at every Fastlane event. This was the 3rd PPV in a row to not have a Tag Team Championship Match on it & the 1st Fastlane since 2016 to not have one.
⢠Riddle VS Mustafa Ali was the 5th United States Championship Match of 2021, the 1st since Raw on March 15, & the 2nd PPV in a row in 2021, the 5th at Fastlane & 3rd in a row. It was Riddleâs Fastlane debut & his 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. It was his 1st 1-on-1 Match on PPV since he defeated King Corbin at Payback on August 30, 2020. Mustafa Ali was Riddleâs 2nd United States Championship Defense, so if he would have lost, he would have been the 1st since Ricochet who lost to AJ Styles at Extreme Rules on July 14, 2019 to lose in his 2nd Defense. As of Fastlane, Riddleâs United States Championship Reign has lasted 28 Days, so if he would have lost, he would have been the 4th United States Champion to lose in 28 Days after Zack Ryder (12/18/11 â 1/16/12), Seth Rollins (8/23/15 â 9/20/15), & Kevin Owensâ 1st Reign (4/2/17 â 4/30/17). It was Mustafa Aliâs 2nd Fastlane in a row & 1st 1-on-1 Match at Fastlane. It was his 3rd PPV in a row in 2021 & was only his 4th 1-on-1 Match on PPV after he lost to Cedric Alexander at WrestleMania 34 on April 8, 2018, lost to Murphy at Survivor Series on November 18, 2018 & lost to Randy Orton at Hell In A Cell on October 6, 2019. This was the 3rd 1-on-1 Match between them after Raw on March 1 (won by Ali) & Raw on March 15 (won by Riddle), so now Riddle has won twice & Ali won 1. This was the 2nd PPV in a row that a match took place on Raw & then re-matched on PPV the following week after the Gauntlet Match on Raw on February 15 & Elimination Chamber on February 21. It was the 5th Kickoff Match at Fastlane & the 5th year in a row, the 2nd United States Championship Match to take place on the Fastlane Kickoff since Kalisto VS Alberto Del Rio in 2016, was both Riddle & Aliâs 1st Fastlane Kickoff Match, Aliâs 2nd Kickoff Match in a row in 2021, & Riddleâs 1st Kickoff Match of 2021. This was the 2nd Fastlane in a row that the US Title did not change hands, as the only time it did was in 2018 when Randy Orton defeated Bobby Roode.
⢠Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair VS Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax will be the 5th Womenâs Tag Team Championship Match of 2021, the 1st since Raw on March 8, & the 3rd PPV in a row. It will be the 2nd Womenâs Tag Team Championship Match in a row at Fastlane. This will be Sasha Banksâ 4th Fastlane & 2nd in a row, & her 2nd Womenâs Tag Team Championship Match in a row at Fastlane. It will be her 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. This will be Bianca Belairâs Fastlane debut & her 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. This will be Shayna Baszlerâs Fastlane debut & 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. This will be Nia Jaxâs 3rd Fastlane event, 2nd in a row, & 2nd Womenâs Team Championship Match in a row & her 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. Sasha Banks & Nia Jax are the only wrestlers to be in both Womenâs Tag Team Championship Matches at Fastlane, as Banks & Bayley defeated Jax & Tamina in 2019. They also wrestled in a Singles Match in 2017, as Banks defeated Jax, making them the only women to wrestle each other multiple times at Fastlane. Banks & Belair will be Shayna Baszler & Nia Jaxâs 4th Womenâs Tag Team Championship Match Defense, so if they would have lost, it would be the 2nd time they lost the titles in their 4th Defense, as they lost to Asuka & Charlotte Flair at TLC on December 20, 2020, & would join the list of every Womenâs Tag Team Champion except for Banks & Bayleyâs 2 Reigns (1st Reign ended in 2 Defenses & 2nd Reign in 5 Defenses) & The Kabuki Warriors (5 Defenses) to lose in 4 Defenses. As of Fastlane, Baszler & Jaxâs Womenâs Tag Team Championship Reign has lasted 50 Days, so if they would have lost, they would have been the 1st ever to lose the title in 50 Days, & they have the 3rd Shortest Reign of All-Time after Banks & Bayleyâs 1st Reign (49 Days, 2/17/19 â 4/7/19) & Asuka & Flair (41 Days, 12/20/20 â 1/31/21). This will be the 2nd or 3rd match to be re-matched from Elimination Chamber, as Baszler & Jax defeated Banks & Belair on February 21, 2021, so Baszler & Jax have won matches. This continues the streak of the Womenâs Tag Team Championship never changing hands at Fastlane.
⢠Big E VS Apollo Crews was the 6th Intercontinental Championship Match of 2021, the 1st since Smackdown on March 12, & the 1st on PPV since the Triple Threat Ladder Match between Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, & Sami Zayn at Clash of Champions on September 27, 2020, the 3rd at Fastlane & 1st since Kevin Owens defeated Dolph Ziggler to retain the title in 2016. This was Big Eâs 2nd Fastlane event in a row, but 1st ever Singles Match or Title Match at Fastlane. This was Big Eâs 1st PPV since the Royal Rumble on January 31, his 1st Singles Match on PPV since he defeated Sheamus at Payback on August 30, 2020, & the 1st time he defended the Intercontinental Championship on PPV since he defeated Jack Swagger at Elimination Chamber on February 23, 2014. Fastlane was Big Eâs 7th Intercontinental Championship Defense, so if he would lose, he would be the 1st since William Regal who lost to Rob Van Dam at WrestleMania 18 on March 17, 2002 to lose in his 7th Defense. As of Fastlane, Big Eâs Intercontinental Championship Reign has lasted 86 Days, so if he would have lost, he would be the 1st ever to lose in 86 Days. This was Apollo Crewsâ Fastlane debut, his 1st PPV since the Battle Royal at Survivor Series on November 22, 2020, & his 1st Singles Match on PPV since he lost to Bobby Lashley for the United States Championship at Clash of Champions on September 27, 2020. He only has 1 Singles win on PPV, when he defeated Sheamus at Money on The Bank on June 19, 2016, which was his WWE PPV debut. This was the 3rd 1-on-1 Match between Big E & Crews after Smackdown on January 8, 2021 (won by E) & January 22, 2021 (won by Crews by Disqualification), so E has won 2 & Crews has won 1. This continues the streak of the Intercontinental Championship never changing hands at Fastlane & continues Big Eâs undefeated streak at Fastlane, with his 2nd straight win.
⢠Braun Strowman VS Elias was Braun Strowmanâs 3rd Fastlane & 1st since 2017, his 1st PPV since the Royal Rumble on January 31, & his 1st Singles Match on PPV since he lost to Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam on August 23, 2020. It was Eliasâ Fastlane debut & his 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. This was the 3rd 1-on-1 Match between them after Raw on February 26, 2018 & March 5, 2018, which were all won by Strowman. It was Strowmanâs 1st win since Team Raw defeated Team Smackdown at Survivor Series on November 22, 2020 & his 1st Single win on PPV since he defeated Bray Wyatt at Money In The Bank on May 10, 2020 & his 1st Singles win overall since he defeated Keith Lee on Raw on October 19, 2020.
⢠Joe Average/Nightpanther defeated R-Truth & R-Truth winning it back was the 11th & 12th 24/7 Title Change of 2021, the 140th & 141st of All-Time, Average/Nightpantherâs 1st Reign, making him the 1st ever Delivery Man to win the Title, & began Truthâs 51st Reign, ending his 50th Reign at 6 Days.
⢠Shinsuke Nakamura VS Seth Rollins was Nakamuraâs 3rd Fastlane PPV in a row & his 1st Singles Match at Fastlane since 2018. It was his 1st PPV since the Royal Rumble on January 31 & his 1st Singles Match on PPV since he defeated The Miz at Clash of Champions on September 19, 2019. It will be Seth Rollinsâ 3rd Fastlane PPV & 2nd in a row & his 1st ever Singles Match at Fastlane. He has only wrestled in 6-Man Tag Team Matches at Fastlane. It will be his 1st PPV match & match overall since the Royal Rumble on January 31, his 1st Singles Match since he lost to Murphy on Smackdown on November 20, 2020 & 1st on PPV since he defeated Dominik Mysterio in a Street Fight at SummerSlam on August 23, 2020. It was their 3rd 1-on-1 Match against each other after Survivor Series on November 18, 2018, which was won by Rollins & Smackdown on October 4, 2019, which ended in a No Contest, so Rollins has won 2, Nakamura has won 0, & 1 ended in a No Contest. This win continued Rollinsâ undefeated streak at Fastlane, giving him his 3rd straight win.
⢠Drew McIntyre VS Sheamus was the 4th No Holds Barred, No Disqualification Street Fight of 2021, 1st since McIntyre VS Sheamus on March 8, & was the 1st ever No Holds Barred Match in Fastlane History. It was McIntyreâs 2nd Fastlane in a row & his 1st Singles Match at Fastlane. It was his 3rd PPV in a row in 2021, his 1st Non-Title Match on PPV since the Royal Rumble on January 26, 2020, & his 1st Non-Title Singles Match on PPV since he lost to Roman Reigns at Stomping Grounds on June 23, 2019. It was McIntyreâs 8th No Holds Barred Match in his Career & 1st since he wrestled Sheamus to a No Contest on Raw on March 8, now giving him a No Holds Barred Record of 6-1-1. This was Sheamusâ 2nd Fastlane in a row & his 1st Singles Match at Fastlane. It was his 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. It was Sheamusâ 11th No Holds Barred Match in his Career, with his last match being a No Contest against Drew McIntyre on Raw on March 8, now giving him a No Holds Barred Match Record of 8-2-1. This was the 5th 1-on-1 Match between them, after Tribute to the Troops on December 13, 2011 (won by Sheamus), Smackdown on January 27, 2012 (won by Sheamus), Raw on March 1, 2021 (won by McIntyre), & Raw on March 8, 2021 (ended in a NC), so McIntyre has won 2, Sheamus has won 2, & 1 ended in a No Contest.
⢠Randy Orton VS Alexa Bliss was the 3rd Intergender Match of 2021, the 1st since a 6-Person Tag Team Match on Smackdown, & the 1st ever at Fastlane. It was the 1st Intergender Match on PPV since Kofi Kingston & Mickie James VS Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix at SummerSlam on August 17, 2008. This was Randy Ortonâs 2nd Fastlane & 1st since 2018. ⢠Daniel Bryan VS Roman Reigns was the 3rd Universal Championship Match of 2021, the 1st since Elimination Chamber on February 21, & the 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. It was the 4th WWE or Universal Championship Match at Fastlane, the 2nd Fastlane in a row, but the 1st Universal Championship Match since Goldberg VS Kevin Owens in 2017, making this the 1st time in Fastlane History that Kevin Owens is not wrestling in a WWE or Universal Championship Match, as he wrestled in a 6-Pack Match in 2018 & a Triple Threat Match in 2019 for the WWE Championship. This was Daniel Bryanâs 3rd Fastlane & 2nd in a row, his 2nd WWE or Universal Championship Match at Fastlane in a row, his 3rd PPV in a row in 2021, & his 2nd Universal Championship Match in a row in 2021. This was Roman Reignsâ 5th Fastlane match, giving him the most Fastlane Matches in History, & his 2nd in a row, but was his 1st ever WWE or Universal Championship Match at Fastlane. It was his 3rd PPV in a row in 2021. Daniel Bryan at Fastlane was Roman Reignsâ 8th Universal Championship Defense, giving him the most Universal Championship Defenses in History, surpassing Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar, & Seth Rollins who all had 7 Defenses. As of Fastlane, Roman Reignsâ Universal Championship Reign has lasted 204 Days, which is the 2nd Longest of All-Time after Brock Lesnarâs 1st Reign (4/2/17 â 8/19/18), which lasted 503 Days. This was the 1st match ever to take place multiple times at Fastlane after they wrestled each other in 2015, & was the 5th 1-on-1 Match between them after Smackdown on May 31, 2013 (won by Reigns by Disqualification), Raw on September 16, 2013 (won by Bryan), Fastlane on February 22, 2015 (won by Reigns), & Elimination Chamber on February 21 (won by Reigns), so Bryan has won 1 & Reigns has won 3, making this the 3rd match to be re-matched from Elimination Chamber. Edge was the 1st time ever that there was a Special Enforcer at Fastlane, the 1st Special Enforcer since Elias was Special Enforcer for Roman Reigns VS The B-Team on Smackdown on April 30, 2019, & the 1st on PPV since John Laurinaitis at the Royal Rumble for CM Punk VS Dolph Ziggler on January 29, 2012, which was the last time there was a Special Enforcer for a WWE or World Championship Match.
