Funk at least improvised when the pyro didnt go off as expected, one weakness I noticed about AEW is the lack of audibles during matches/segments.

I was watching the show with some friends. I talked all night about how I dislike barbwire, how squeamish I am when it comes to death matches in general. I spent the entire match squirming with every bump into anything with barbwire. The match was fantastic. It told an amazing story. But every bump made me squeak in disgust. And then... the countdown. I was not ready. My mind was flooding with emotions. I had never seen the "exploding" part of death match before. Kingston sacrificing himself to protect Mox... 3... 2.... 1...
Sparklers. It was just sparklers.... My brain paused. All this build up. The blood. The wire. The exploding ropes. Kingston laying like a dead body over Moxley.... for a Gilberg entrance.
I laughed.
And laughed.
I laughed so hard my voice went hoarse.
That sums up my experience.

Bryan Alvarez said on WOL that backstage Kenny was furious with the bomb so it was a botch 100%
For the best I think they should write off Mox next week, mostly because next week its a taped show and no way they screw it up

So during the test run someone snapped a photo, and this is what we were supposed to get
Looks way better, and probably would have looked way better on camera as well and to the live crowd. The high smoke explosion is what you want and it looked like they had that in the test run
I guess whatever pyro they used for the actual run just didn't go off. Sadly, test running fireworks and pyro is good to see how it'll go, but it doesn't mean it's gonna work the second time you try it.

Why would Tony Khan say that was what it was supposed to look like? If it didn’t go off just say so. I thought people wanted transparency from a wrestling company. These are the same guys that acknowledged that Shawn Spears chair shot that busted Cody went wrong because of a fake chair. It’s not like they’re all in on Kayfabe.

Tony Khan coming out with the, "Well we couldn't do that without injuring someone!" line makes this even worse. If you can't make it look right, come up with an audible or just don't do it at all.
Partnering with Impact may have cursed AEW because there was some TNA-tastic stuff last night.

Khan said it was "What it was supposed to look like" because he was leaning into the Kenny angle of it, he said it was messed up but the Omega storyline gave them an out to say he built it wrong
Ya'll are hung up on the one quote taken from the media scrum with no additional context. I actually watched the entire media scrum. He wasn't playing it off as bad as people seem to be thinking. He knows it went wrong and just went into promoter mode and said this is what they're going with and they're gonna elaborate more on Dynamite.

People shitting on the finish is 110% justified.
People harping on what Tony did or didn’t say after the match are just grasping lol

They can try it again on a taped Dynamite if they really want to write Mox off the show, or at least do something of the same level of brutality.

I thought the rope explosions looked fine so I don't get how this got screwed up. Just do the same shit again but all at once. Feel for all the guys involved since you know they didn't set this up. So all that work that Omega and Onita put into this contraption and this is what we ended up with? Sure, it's different if it's a highlight on youtube but when you paid money to see this? It's unacceptable.

Partnering with Impact may have cursed AEW because there was some TNA-tastic stuff last night. He was literally joking when he said that at the media scrum, people are taking this quote so seriously. How many times does it have to be said that quote was taken out of an entire media scrum where he elaborated that he knew it was a mess up but the Omega incident gave them an out? That IS their audible. The finish sucked, but people blaming Khan off of one quote are grasping to me. He knew it was a mess up, he said they would move forward on Dynamite and go the Kenny direction. Shit happens, that's really all that can be said, otherwise we're just going in a circle till Wednesday.

People also paid money for four hours of a show, and a match that was perfectly great and finished fine. This sucked, but I also don't know if it means people wasted 50 bucks on the show that otherwise was very good seems to be the popular opinion? If people feel that way I guess that's valid but I also think it undercuts everything else that happened on the show.

Cool man, you've been nonstop on the AEW hate train since last night so it's whatever that you try and undercut me like that. I ain't defending the finish, I've made it pretty clear it sucked. I'm just saying I think people overreacted to a quote taken out of context from a media scrum. I'm an Eagles fan by the way

I was hyped for this match. Yes, the rest of the PPV was great but THIS MATCH was the one I wanted to see since I never watched deathmatches growing up, even though I loved the original ECW.

It's understandable, it does suck, some things just unfortunatly can go wrong and there are no redos. I thought the match itself delivered though. It just sucks the post-match explosion didn't go as planned. You gotta try different things, but I'm sure AEW won't be touching this one again, not for awhile anyway.
