Good fun match that Main Evented the debut of Dark: Elevation that the two had between them.
Riho continues to prove why Kenny was so high on her and that was the best Maki has looked in her brief AEW career even busting out The Lion Tamer during it.

Match showed that Maki Itoh has a ton of upside not just as a character but given the right room to work. It won't shock me if AEW's definitely trying to lock her down in the future, she's special and she could be one of the faces of the brand.
Riho's already there, man, woman, doesn't matter, she's a pillar. The second she came back it felt like the women's division found itself again. She provides that much to it and the atmosphere.

I'm so glad that AEW really put faith in these young women to put on a good match. It got top billing over AEW champion Kenny Omega interrupting a match victory celebration and then getting an angry Tony Khan come out to fix the situation. Just two joshi beating the hell out of each other, and it was worthy of the top spot.
Hopefully we'll get more storylines with Riho after this, and more Maki when she becomes available.

It was a good, fun match. I've already been a fan of Riho for a while, but the last few weeks in AEW has pretty much been my introduction to Maki Itoh and she seems really good too.
I do have a big complaint about something that has been annoying me about Maki that I think she needs to work on though, and that's the way she kicks out of a pin. I've never seen a more lazy, almost non existent pin kick out. She did it so many times during the recent women's tournament matches and again against Riho. It's to the point where the referee is quite obviously having to slow down and almost stop the 3rd count in order for her to kick out, then she just sloppily barely lifts her shoulder. Not sure if she's trying to make it a dramatic last gasp type of thing, but it just looks really bad imo.

Itoh's Liontamer variation was nice, and I liked Schiavone and Wight dancing to her theme.

2019, it was Orange Cassidy 2020, it was John Silver Does 2021 belong to Maki Itoh?
