From the inception of AEW, the Tag division has been a major focus and strong point of the company. With an astounding number of teams (in which you can fill a Royal Rumble match alone with) with mostly clear distinct personalities and abilities, no other company can match them.
A goal of the Young Bucks which was brought up previously is for the Tag Titles to Main Event a PPV. Understandably AEW aren't putting out a PPV a month so their options are limited but how can you envision a tag title match being worthy of main eventing over the World title?
As much as the Young Bucks bring it in the ring, I find their characters a bit stunted due to a back and forth alignment (still peeved at the lack of clarity from their super kicking backstage personnel antics). Hopefully once the story with the Good Brothers and Kenny amps up it will be less confusing but the other matter is who would be main event worthy opponents?
Currently, the only option for me just now is a rematch with a vengeful FTR. With their new alliance, they would be able to be brought up to a higher level. Or even a wildcard of Moxley/Kingston due to their Upper card standing as singles could be an interesting feud.
What do you folks think? Would it only happen if the World title for some reason wasn't being defended? Either way, the Tag title match is always a standout at every PPV.

Young Bucks versus Naito and Okada. Omega refusing the get in the ring with Okada, so Okada gets Naito to get revenge on the Bucks for leaving New Japan like they did. And hurt Omega by taking his friends' titles.

I really feel like Young Bucks vs FTR could main event, I really doubt we've seen the only match between these two.

Honestly if Bucks vs Hangman and Page didnt main event Im not sure it ever will Well, certainly a re-match of Hangman and Omega versus Young Bucks could in theory Main Event, if they write a really good reason why. Hangman eventually beats Omega for the World title, Bucks turn heel, Omega turns face to protect Hangman, re-match of the best bout in AEW history, something along those lines.

My sense is that AEW is treating the tag titles more as the titles that carry TV, while the world title carries PPV. The tag champs are usually given the best time slots for ratings (8pm and 9pm), the titles are more frequently defended on TV, and the challenger pool is stupid deep. Meanwhile, the world title has "special circumstance" challengers on TV, but really sells the clash of two big personalities on PPV with long builds - hence the number of wrestlers treated as being in range of the world title is pretty small.
The TNT title, which is explicitly a TV-carrying title, is booked more similarly to the tag titles (at least before Darby's reign slowed things to a crawl): frequent defenses, and a focus on a deep undercard rather than on a small pool of elite challengers.

Gotta admit, I do miss tag team matches main eventing on PPV. Been watching some OSW reviews and it used to be fairly common. I think the last one was...Cena/Rock vs. Miz/Truth at SurSer 2011?

make the circumstances right and I'm sure Jurassic Express vs. #FTR could main event for the Tag Titles. Everyone loves Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus could be a new generation Kane, and #FTR are great work horses.

I think, with the right booking and circumstances, The Young Bucks and The Good Brothers could main event.

Theoretically it should just take a hot angle, though it's pretty abundantly clear that all of AEW's early talk about how all of the titles would be equal was pretty much total lies.

Lie is a strong word, but yeah, it'd have to be the right angle, I imagine, given the limited number of PPVs per year.

Build up each title as PPV main event worthy. I would, ideally, only have one (of the World, Tag and Women’s) on each PPV, as the main event, unless it’s a special card (All In).
