Not to mention, we know Dave isn’t in his basement. His office is a disaster, but it is clearly above ground level.

The fallout to this episode is pretty much as stupid as I expected. Twitter shitstirrer lays bait, wrestler takes it, fans fall hook, line and sinker, and a full-scale Meltzer vs. Not Meltzer culture war breaks out.
It's honestly embarrassing at this point. Yeah, Dave says some ill-considered shit sometimes and this may or may not be one of them, but it's sad to see both wrestlers and fans allow themselves to continually get pulled into this nonsense.

Zelina right now: Basically this. Hogan called out the dirt sheets for falsely claiming Macho Man was hurt. Savage, standing right next to him, was in a cast. Zelina called out a vague sheet writer (wink wink) for false reporting on her WWE signing. Vega also… was signed by WWE, returned and deleted any tweet history of supporting unionization. Just like was reported by multiple sources as it occurred, as it’s pretty newsworthy for a famously released talent over the Twitch thing to be visiting the PC. How this is looked at negatively for journalists is insane and the people calling for SRS or Papa Meltz’s heads over this only lend credence to the “WWE is a cult” theories.

Wrestling voice leading the charge for unionization to arguing with Dave Meltzer on Twitter.
Way to go.

People say rapists and bigots are bad but I contend that no, the true ill of this world is Dave Meltzer, and I put a curse upon his name.

I hope all these silly spats with female wrestlers gets Meltzer cancelled. Cancel culture can do something positive for a change by moving wrestling journalism away from that crank in his basement being the face of it. Is this post seriously "cancel culture is normally bad, but if these petty arguments that aren't actually about anything of any real import can get this guy I don't like to stop working that'd be nice"? Yeah, pretty much. I think it's a bit suspect he seems to go after these women and says things that would normally get people heavily criticised, but he seems to get a pass because lots of people subscribe and love his stuff, and sure, most of that is pretty unimportant but, I don't like the guy and would very much like to see him shut down and a better, more impartial face of wrestling journalism take his place as top dog. Why not use the extreme rabid element that calls for cancelling of any minor thing for a positive?

Or...it could be the case that he offered a valid counterpoint in this instance and some people agreed with him. I also disagreed heavily with Dave when he interviewed Bruce Mitchell. This isn't an "us versus them" discussion. We're perfectly capable of agreeing with someone in one instance and disagreeing with them in another.

Because he hasn't done anything wrong, has apologized after times when he's said something that comes off poorly and made the intent of his words clearer, and Meltzer Derangement Syndrome is something we should be getting rid of from online wrestling discourse, not stoking more. "Blah blah blah it's the damn DIRTSHEETS!" is the wrestling equivalent of "this goes out to my HATERS!" in other media: lazy and usually completely off base. There are genuinely shitty outlets online that try to peddle wrestling "news" without doing any journalism; go ahead and call them out. But the WWE company line pretty clearly seems to be "shit all over wrestling journalists, even if they, y'know, report things accurately. Wait, no, ESPECIALLY if they report things accurately!" EDIT: Meant to add, I read somewhere that Zelina apparently deleted the unionization tweet a good while ago, like last summer or something. If there's truth to that, then I do wish people would bring it up less discussing her now, as it pretty clearly would've been done without re-signing with WWE in mind. If not, well, then I guess I get the conversation.

Sure, still dont like Meltzer and would like to see his influence and position go elsewhere. His point-counterpoint is what it is, people agreeing or disagreeing is what it is, I just dont like the guy, if his silly spats eventually get him cancelled, deserved or not at that point, I will be happy, I dont like the guy.

I dont like his methods, I dont like the way he reports things, I dont like he charges for it, I dont like the culture around him - I just think he holds back wrestling journalism with those methods and his clear bias reporting stance. I would prefer a more professional, balanced stance that may do exactly what he does in terms of the stories - but just not in the way he does it. This isn't a cult of WWE defence stance, it's a general dislike of the guy and the way he does things stance.

So he gets a pass because lots of people like him, but you want to see him ruined because you don't like him. Do you see the issue here?
If you disagree with what he says that's fine, it's not that important, but don't try to twist the efforts of dweebs like BlurayWrestling goading a wrestler and fans into kicking off over him being a bit of a dick on the radio into anything other than that.

So to clarify, your stance is that you don’t like cancel culture but would be for a guy getting cancelled even if it’s undeserving in the specific instance, just because you don’t like him? No, cancel culture has become a term for any action taken online that attacks things one set of people doesnt like and another wants to defend, and in some cases goes to the extremes and sees unfair actions taken for minor things, which then brings disrepute on the things that legitimately need to be called out. I am aware of the hypocrisy of wanting to see that happen to someone for minor things, but at least I'm honest about it and would consider that extreme an action a positive in this situation, where usually that extreme level of reaction is a negative. I should likely have been clearer, ironically enough given the nature of the back and forth currently between Vega and Meltzer, rather just use the generic 'cancel culture'

You do realize all of this wasn't even the intention of the term "being cancelled" and that it was picked up by people without the best intentions to use it as an excuse to feel like they're being persecuted when in actuality, it doesn't affect anything of real note, right? Like, it's another term white people stole from black people and took all the real context from. I know I'm breaking my own rule with this post in this thread but honestly, we've had our arguments but you seem like a guy reasonable enough to not believe cancel culture is a thing.

If Meltzer is going to be "cancelled," I'd rather it be for something that's deserved. This ain't it.
