This has real potential to go badly. I said before in the thread that the first promo made me think of Bayley after the kendo stick match and that’s for a few reasons. It’s not just a wonky booking decision, it’s also the performer deciding to smile through it and continue to be this sappy sweet character. That to me is where a lot of the backlash comes from. The bad decision pulls back the curtain and the performer has to do something to fix that or the crowd will be lost. Remember that Bayley was pretty awful on promos back then but the crowd went along with absolutely atrocious shit like the “Roses are Red. Violets are blue” promo. Then the curtain was pulled back and she couldn’t do anything right until they changed the character entirely |

We’ve seen these kinds of situations before, like you mention, where they’ve had the bad match and then a follow up promo that doesn’t really salvage any of it, and often the follow up from there would just make it worse. What helped Bayley back then was that she had to take time off to rehab an injury, so the bad reactions couldn’t happen long enough (two shows maximum, I believe) for them to truly become entrenched for them to still be a thing when she came back. Morgan’s still going to be on TV, and she will nominally still be the babyface. Basically, it’s time to stop being the starry-eyed dreamgirl acting in awe that she’s in the big time. Bitch, we’ve seen the hard work and bought into you. You belong, now start acting like it. Yeah, you’ll still have people being like “NONE OF THIS COUNTS UNTIL YOU BEAT ROUSEY STRAIGHT UP CLEAN”, but that’s not realistic. They haven’t even had their true chosen ones do that. |

So Liv is going down the exact path of Bret Hart in 1997. Delusional face that is left behind as everyone rallies against hated rival Ronda, who starts to get more cheers again.
So Liv has to recruit members to join the Liv Foundation.

I get the idea of the whole fighting through the pain bulldog thing but the way it's executed it kind of just reads on the same level as, "Charlotte beats Nikki half to death for 20 minutes then trips and knocks herself out," in terms of just, "Sooooo Liv looks weak while Shayna looks stupid?"

The annoying thing about all this is how this will eventually escalate to the point of “MORGAN HAS TO SQUASH SOMEBODY IN A TITLE DEFENSE FOR ME TO SEE HER AS REMOTELY CREDIBLE”, which is something they never do unless it’s Lesnar, Reigns or Rousey. And it has to be somebody important for it to count, so it can’t be like Li or Shotzi or somebody like that.
