I love Tito. So underrated He got the short end of the stick in the Strike Force break up. Both guys were equally talented and would stay with WWF for a long while. Tito was even more loyal while rick would leave almost every summer for his real estate business. I think it Tito had come around in the last 10-15 years he would be a main event guy. |

Although I completely agree that Tito is underrated, at the same time, Martell was way better on the mic, and worked a more diverse style in the ring.
Call it arrogance, but Martell was a great heel, too.
Now referring to the original post, it’s nice to know that at some point, management went out of their way to make a guy like Tito (a solid mid card champ) look extra special for a night.
Good for him.

I remember seeing this for the first time back in the day and being so confused why jobber to the stars Tito Santana was upsetting the new, unstoppable monster heel. But it being in Spain makes absolute sense.

I was always waiting for Tito to feud with Macho Man, over the world title at some point, but it never happened.
They had good matches together over the IC title so it seemed only natural that they extend their rivalry into Savage’s world title reign.
Even if it wasn’t a full blown PPV style feud, it would have been a great main event on Saturday Nights Main Event, or something similar.

It's almost bizarre to see a WWE match where the finish is designed to make a specific crowd happy. Today, he'd probably be squashed and made to look like a complete goober just for the extra heat.

Reminds me of a tall tale my friend used to tell me about some super secret PPV only he could see, where Tito slammed and pinned Andre (it was described by him as a tag match of some sort, Zeus was Andre's partner, forget who he had team up with Tito)

They did that for HBK because he needed more heat for a title that didn’t matter, in a match that no one saw. Which he respectfully lost in a comedy match. Never forget. Bret was the asshole. |
