I wasn't online as much back in the day, so what was the consensus on which side people were on?
Were you a Rock or Austin person?

I’m not sure about consensus, but I Would have been early teens here so I was for Rock. But as an adult I would go for Austin now. His comedy just doesn’t make me laugh at all. But heel he is perfect and seeing him get his ass beat is amazing work.

Moreso Rock, but the feud was really setting up Austin as the de facto heel of the build.

I don't remember. All I know at Wrestlemania XIX, I was on the Rock's side, heel or not, I wanted him to win the third match.

I was tried of both of them in the main event spot by then.
I was more interested in Edge, Jericho, Angle, and Benoit.

Austin. The Rock was pretty insufferable during that build and the fans were turning against him.

before the match: Austin after the match: Rock And that's exactly how they wanted it to be done at the end of the match. Masterful booking that got you going from Austin to the Rock within one hour.

The Rock was awesome but as a kid I was a huuuge Steve Austin mark, and I still am to this day.

Austin.
My favorite wrestling memory too. Had a huge party for it/my birthday and literally half of us were going for Austin and half were going for Rock.

I wanted Rock to win but I heard a radio show a week or two before the show talking about him leaving after Wrestlemania to film a movie so I knew that he probably had to lose the title.
I started getting really into wrestling in 2000 when Austin was gone and Rock was on top feuding with the McMahon-Helmsley regime. When Austin returned I didn't really get him at first. In fact I remember being pissed during his first weeks back when he was doing the interrupting random matches to interrogate people thing trying to find out who ran him over and he would beat up a bunch of my favorites at the time like Blackman, Jericho and the Hardys and none of them ever did anything about it afterwards. It made them seem like cowards. It wasn't until his antics with Vince and Kurt Angle during the invasion angle that I started finding Austin entertaining.
