According to a piece on Ringside News, Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff is in very poor health, and based on a video shared by his son, looks like a shell of himself. It reminds me a lot of the recent story on Steve "Mongo" McMichael and as someone who lost his father 3 months ago, me seeing Orndorff in this kind of shape is very distressing. I will always remember Orndorff as someone who, as a kid, looked every bit capable of winning every match he was in by legit destroying someone. Solid worker whose stuff you couldn't see through. This is what my dad was like towards the end of his life. I really don't know why his son posted this video, TBH. It's one thing to keep a video of that sort, but this is a lot to share publicly IMO.

This is sad and I wouldn't be posting a video like this publicly. Feel so bad to see him like this. I lost my dad in April and its been a rough thing to deal with. I saw my dad have a decline in health over the years and its been tough to see, but never even thought about filming it and ext.

David Penzer has been particularly vocal about how his son shouldn’t have posted the video and how Mr Wonderful wouldn’t have wanted the world to see him like that. Just a very sad situation.

Mr. #1derful is one of the underrated guys from the 80s, mainly because he disappeared with his arm injury right when the WWF was at/near its peak.
Sad video. Not sure why his son put it out there but that’s a tough one. Wishing the best.

In my dad's last few years he was in a home, and I have a few pictures of him in that condition to send to immediate family to keep them posted on how he was doing. That's the only audience that should have seen this video.

It could be his way of coping. In a sense it's a living memorial for Paul. People want others to memorialize and honor their family members or why else have funerals? Thankfully Paul is still alive but I'm sure his son wants fans and friends/wrestlers to understand this may be the last they see of him so they can say what is in their hearts before it's too late. It may be too late for Paul to understand but at least he's alive to read the good words or maybe see a video of an old co-worker and maybe know for that moment who he is and how much he means to them. My grandfather died last month and my grandmother 17 days later. My grandfather was well known in political and social circles for decades until spending his last 15 years taking care of my ill grandmother. For his last few years I was hoping he would get in touch with the people he used to know as I was interested in doing some work in the political and social networks locally. He simply told me no one would remember him. When he passed I got in touch with one of our local prominent politicians who not only remembered working with him but sent a heart felt memorial citation to the funeral home. I wish so much we had gotten in touch with her in the years that he was alive so I get why Paul's son may be doing this. It is sad and it seems a bit much but knowing that his father is not only at the end of his life but his life may be much worse from here with dementia, he is trying to let his fans and friends know this is the end while there's still time to to celebrate him while he's alive.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying and I think this is a situation where we may just fundamentally disagree and that's fine. I just think there's a way to do this with words without having to show somebody in that condition. In any event, if it brings Orndorff to people's minds again, so be it.

Maybe his son should have just posted a simple text message online but unfortunately the message may have gone widely unnoticed where a video is ultimately getting a lot of attention. I remember David Penzer doing the interview with Paul at a Wrestlemania weekend convention. I know he did a few more but the ones I remember were Lex and Anvil so I guess it was guys Penzer really liked back in the day as he seems to like Paul a lot and Lex, though Anvil did get pissed when David said he was a Hall of Famer and Anvil had yet to be inducted. I can only hope the video does lead to a lot of people reaching out and giving their well wishes. I haven't checked the audio yet (my audio on computer broke last week) but based on the video I'm thinking he doesn't have long and if he does it will be a very long and sad ending.

I know that, when my grandfather began to succumb to dementia, the glints of happiness were often when he was reminded of his time in the military, or family vacations that we had taken. He may not have remembered us necessarily, but he could remember events, or general feelings related to certain people and places that made him happy. For Paul Orndorff, that's wrestling, I think. In that video his son makes a point of asking him if he remembers wrestling. I can't begrudge his son for releasing these videos publicly, particularly if he feels that it may make his father, for whom wrestling was a lifelong passion, experience a glint of happiness if wrestling fans reach out to him. Or, if he thinks that, maybe, in some small way its comforting for his father to know that wrestling fans haven't forgotten him. We all cope with things differently. This is horribly depressing, though, and a very sobering reminder of how much these guys put their bodies and minds through to entertain us. He's only 71-years-old.

I was lucky enough to meet Paul at a local show a few years ago; I remembered to tell him that his feet hit the floor first and we had a good laugh about it. “As long as I got paid, that’s all that mattered!”
I’m hoping for the best to Mr#1derful, which I once used as one of my work passwords.

Apparently the reason the videos were made public was because he believes Orndorff's dementia is a result of CTE, and to raise awareness.
I can't really fault him for that.

I didn't mean to come across as if I was gatekeeping how people cope but in reading my posts that's what I was doing. If he thinks this helps raise awareness, so be it. TBH, a day or so removed I think it reminded me so much of my own dad that it kind of threw me for a loop. Hope the son is doing well.

I guess that's a noble cause and all, but I can't imagine putting a video of my dad like that on the internet. I can't imagine he would be okay with it.

RIP to Paul. Huge fan of his skits with the white haired guy in WCW, and his work late in his career. Very underrated.
