Happy 25th to the N64, as well as Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64 Doesn't time fly. Although the PlayStation won that battle, can you possibly beat a large group of mates, a free house, an N64 with Goldeneye and Mario kart and 4 controllers? No you can't

Great console. Spent many of my teenage days playing Mario 64, Mario Kart, GoldenEye, Diddy Kong Racing, and No Mercy. The only downside for me was the lack of quality fighting games, especially considering how strong the lineup was for the SNES.

The only downside for me was the lack of quality fighting games, especially considering how strong the lineup was for the SNES. Lack of RPGs as well. The cartridges were also more expensive than PS1 discs from what I remember. Still, the first-party and AKI wrestling games were fun, as was GoldenEye.

as my bones continue to crumble into dust The Cartridges were more expensive to create because they had to use Nintendo's printers I believe.... when like PS disks were cd's that even then were printed for like pennies.

I have so many mixed feelings about the N64. Amazing first and second party lineup. Good racing games and shooters. Some of the best wrestling games ever made. But it was an absolute desert for two of my favorite genres: RPG's and 2D fighting games. It was also the first console where Nintendo's corporate arrogance and technical limitations backfired on them huge, chasing so many third party publishers away to Sony.

Yeah, outside of a really late buy on a Sega Genesis on the cheap, my house was exclusively a Nintendo one until the late 90's. The N64's drying up library got me to buy a Playstation. I've still owned every Nintendo console besides the Wii U, but they'll never be my primary home console again unless there's a major paradigm shift in the industry.

N64 was the last time a Nintendo console was my primary. Between the two of us my brother and I owned a PS2, Xbox, and a GameCube, but the GC saw far less play than the others. Since then I got my own place and the only Nintendo console I've owned is a Wii... and even for that I've never actually bought any games for it.

I got the N64 so late in its life span that Paper Mario was one of the first games that I owned for it. I also had Ogre Battle 64, which I thought was great. It's really insane in retrospect how utterly devoid of decent RPGs the console was, because kid me thought it was great.

Never cared for the n64. Hated how the analog sticks on the controllers broke very easily. Plus no good fighting or RPGS. It was really good for multiplayer games but that was it.
I have noticed that the people that were kids when it came out LOVE the N64.
But also I've never been a big fan of most Nintendo home consoles. Sure I had a NES. But I didn't get a SNES until the PS1 came out. And my SNES was mostly for RPGs,since I already had a Genesis. And any game that was on both consoles the Genesis port was faster and better.

Yeah the rpg was a bit of a kicker considering the SNES had some of the best of all time on it. If only they used discs, square wouldn't have ran to Sony.

Let's face it, the use of carts over CDs for N64 was Nintendo's biggest mistake. It's their biggest mistake because it's the one they're STILL feeling the aftermath of to this day. Virtual Boy they got past just by having a Game Boy with color graphics. Wii U they've long since rebounded with Switch. But N64 cost them the preferential treatment from 3rd parties that is still a struggle for them to this day. When Madden skips the Switch for the 5th straight year, SOMETHING went wrong!

It's a very flawed console in many ways but there are a ton of games on it I still just love. Mario 64, OoT and MM, Harvest Moon, No Mercy, WCW / nWo Revenge, Paper Mario, the first three Mario Party games, Diddy Kong Racing... I spent entirely too much time playing Mace: The Dark Ages as a kid.

Would've been a good year to release the N64 classic and make a freakin' killing selling the cool Funtastic controllers... I was far heavier into PS1 single player experiences when 64 came out, but my best memories of the system are similar to most peoples: the multiplayer games. Nothing beats spending a summer day in the pool with your friends and coming inside, cooling off, and eating snacks while playing a round of 3-4 player Mario Party, the wrestling games, Goldeneye, or Mario Kart. I definitely miss growing up in the 90s, and the 64 had a really nice role in the social aspect of that.

N64 was the best couch multiplayer console and it's not even close.
The main entertainment for almost a decade of my life was chilling after work and playing n64 multiplayer games until most of the group got married and started having kids. Shooters, racing games, wrestling games and kart games OH MY
