Lets say that when the Rockers broke up, Marty turned on Shawn, and Shawn jumped through the window like a coward. What would happen next? Would Marty be able to control his issues to be a top heel? Does Shawn still break out and become a solo star as a face?

I thought Marty was the heel. He dove through that window to avoid confrontation like a coward and Shawn got the girl.

heel party marty would have destroyed the mid 90's wwf both kayfabe wise and in reality.
in ring offering his opponents random pills/powders/drinks, throwing fake pills to random people in the audience, encouraging borderline legal drinking age fans to drink
backstage off camera offering everyone backstage random pills/powders/drinks, getting the fake pills mixed up with the real ones and throwing them out to the audience, encouraging borderline legal drinking age fans to drink with him after the show

What would be Marty's billing ala "The Heartbreak Kid"?
The 18-Year Old Awaiter?

Babyface Shawn Michaels still outshines him
At a point, Marty was better than Shawn but Marty was not going to outclass him at this point. He couldn't cut a promo and just his own personal issues would have f***ed him over

What's he gonna do? Use Chuck Austin's injury to get heat? If he does that he gets fired quicker, and won't be back till 97.

If Marty were the heel?
Wouldn't matter because he'd still be fired 100 times (and counting).

The real question is, would it still be cool if he slept with his daughter??? The blood tests say he’s not the biological father, so it’s all good?

Shawn could talk much more clearly, and shawn was more precise with his moves to be able to control the match as a heel. Marty was mush mouthed, which works better as a good guy, because all he has to say is "go get em'!" or whatever after the bad guy gets all the heat built up, and he was looser/sloppier with his wrestling, which again is better as the good guy. Also, shawn changed his character from rocker to heartbreak kid with sherri. Would marty have stayed as "I'm THE rocker, not shawn!" a rocker, or would he have changed characters?
Their role in mid 93 for the i.c. title was perfect, and I wish it would've lasted longer, since it was basically just the one match where marty came out of the crowd to win the title, then shawn wins it off screen while marty disappears again. When it was switched with shawn as the good guy and marty the bad guy, it was superstar shawn vs nobody marty.
I don't think heel marty would've worked, where shawn could do either

Even though both were really good workers that's what made Shawn a little better in my opinion in that his offense especially his strikes and punches looked a lot tighter. Shawn could make his offense look more punishing which is more important when working heel in that it would like he would really be trying to inflict pain on the face he was working. Marty while good was more loose and soft which would be a problem as a heel. It definitely showed during his New Rockers run as he was pretty bad during that.

I hate to pin it on something so superficial, but the reason I don't think a reversal of their roles would work is their heights. Shawn having a couple of inches on Marty made him a better heel, and Marty a better babyface underdog.
Their matches together would have been outstanding either way, but once that feud had ended, where would Marty have gone next? He was one of the shortest, if not the shortest, guys on the roster (I think it was him and Koko), and it's hard to imagine him being an effective heel against anyone unless he went and found himself a new tag partner, which is what they had to do in '96 with him and Snow. Shawn, being of average height for a wrestler, didn't have that problem.

Shawn, being of average height for a wrestler, didn't have that problem. Koko was definitely the shortest. Everyone dwarfed him. I would say he was probably only like 5'7". Marty was probably around 5'11" if I had to guess. Owen was pretty short too. I would say only about 5'10" which would make him shorter then Marty. Both Bushwhackers were pretty short too. Davey Boy and Tatanka were shorter both around 5'11" if I had to guess but both were also pretty stocky and muscular so it didn't hurt them much. I think that's it for guys under 6'0" at that time. Bret and Martel are close calls. I think both were right at 6'0". Is it me has Shawn shrunk over the years? I always thought he was like 6'1" as he always looked slightly taller to me then Bret who I put at about 6'0". However in recent times Bret looks about two inches taller. It seems like he's shrunk three inches as now a days he only looks probably 5'10". I guess maybe surgeries have something to do with it or maybe he wore lifts but other wrestlers around that time have put him at 6'0"-6'1".
