Father of Terry McGinnis. It strips away Terry's own initiative and agency to earning the role of Batman and instead makes it some weird sort of genetic destiny thing as if you could distill Bruce's Batmanness down to a chromosome or two.
Plus it's just sort of creepy. Neither Terry's mom nor dad consented to being the respective carrier and recipients of Bruce's DNA.
I can see Waller wanting to do something like that, but for it to go though to be canon and presented like this big revelatory thing just never sat well with me. Beyond as a series was about Terry's growth into a hero in his own right. This extra addition years later undermined that in favor of it being 'meant to be'.
I dunno, watched a video talking about that earlier and it reminded me "that really was dumb."

I have never cared about this.
I mean, its a retcon that happened like less than 5 years after the character was created.
For like a few years, he wasn't Bruce Wayne's son, but for the past 20 years he has been.
At this point, it would be even weirder to undo it.

Oh I'm not asking them to undo it. I'm just saying it's dumb.

I think it was mainly done to give Bruce a happy ending. We saw him in his prime in BTAS and JL only to know he is going to end up a broken down bitter old man who pushed away all of his loved ones. This gives him a family and the comfort that his mission will be carried on.
But I do concede that Terry doesnt need to be Bruces biological son for this.

It was unnecessary
Basically creating a Batman because Bruce is getting old and we overwrote this guy whole DNA was not needed. Terry grief of his father should have stayed the same. In the end, that was the man that raised him but making him Bruce 2.0 wasn't a great decision
The plan itself is too "perfect"

One gets the feeling that his parents divorced because his father believed thatTerry's mother was cheating on him. Both him and his brother have black hair, and his parents are both redheads

Bruce would be on brand enough that his sperm cells are probably little bat insignias

That said, Terry really does look exactly like a young Bruce, tho.

I liked it... Then again I never watched Batman Beyond before Epilogue.

Does raise the question, was Terry's dad's reproductive genetics permanently changed to Bruce's? Like say he knocks up some random chick from that universe's equivalent of Tinder, would that lil bastard ALSO be a potential Batman?

Lazy writing trying to create excitement by swerving us. It's right up there with Rey Palpatine.

I think it being an utterly pointless retcon was kind of the point given it ultimately had absolutely nothing to do with Terry becoming Batman because the plan was aborted, though that still raises the question of why even do it then.

I could swear they did off-hand mention that Terry's little brother Matt is also Bruce's genetic son, yeah. He also had the black hair, so that's the heavy implication in any case.

I finished this thread title at first as “Bruce Wayne being the genetic freak” and I got weird visions of Scott Steiner trying to play Batman.
Thanks.

Yeah, if they ever decide to give Batman Beyond some type of live action adaptation, they should just choose not to include this.

I'm starting to suspect very strongly DC want to retcon Beyond entirely these days, they've already cancelled the book and replaced it with a choice of Fear State or Bat/Cat futures, and the recent revival of the DCAU in comics seems to be carving out a different timeline for itself.

I wonder if they would have tried that twist had Damian Wayne been introduced at that point.
Also, for comic readers, I know there's a Batman Beyond comic now (that for a short time had Tim Drake be Batman Beyond before Terry came back)...have they addressed anything between Terry and Damian?

The Beyond comics did indeed develop Damien and had he and Terry interact The book's been cancelled now, and it's starting to look like DC are finally washing their hands of Beyond entirely.

Admittedly it was easy for them to do. They found his DNA all over town.
